https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oewDh7QWfmE Please believe me when I tell you that you absolutely do not want to know how I ended up getting this working. It wasn't by fixing the lighting.
The compression makes it very hard to see, but glad its fixed.
It does, so I uploaded it to workshop instead. I have a new problem now! In garry'smod specifically, the detail layer of my texture stops rendering when you use any projected texture (flashlight or lamps.) Is there a way to fix this?
Hey guys, long time no see. I grabbed an unfinished project of mine (sprint2) and turned it into a more useful map, I think everyone loves flatgrass, so why not a desert themed one? Coincidently, Magman77 released a desert map as well. Looks like we got more desert maps to play around! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1707243677 Features a huge open area, custom montains, color correction and a nav mesh! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/109950/aa400616-9a49-42ae-9552-5b60b92bfde5/20190408133229_1.jpg Enjoy!
it's okay I'm not expecting much praise for what comes down to a blender model masquerading as a landscape
How do I make the white part of the textures slightly transparent? And how do I make it so that only the wood has cubemaps? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113201/168d89cb-4b78-4816-9328-56d70540a5ee/slidingdoor1.png
You can use the alpha channel on the diffuse texture of this window to make it transparent, use a grey-ish color. For the wood reflectivity, you need to make another texture black and white, where the white parts are the ones that will be reflective, and then configure the vmt to use as a envmap mask. Some links that will be useful: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/$translucent https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/$envmapmask
My favorite maps as a kid were Desert and Tropical islands I think, maybe even snow ones, but I remember having varying desert themed maps and more sand than grass edits of gm_construct, among the myriad of differently edited ones.
My favorite go-to was always "underground base in the desert". It's one of those niches that you don't really need to stretch a lot to imagine being somewhere yet by nature of its isolation grants a wide degree of lattitude on what actually happens within that niche.
When I started playing, my favorites were, apart from construct and flatgrass, rp_richland and bigcity, playing on them was so much fun back then.
still have an unreleased map like that lying around ... https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/517/6069bfd8-18fc-4f9d-a751-da2e8a5e6f25/rp_smallbunker_v50022.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/517/ab0f47dd-36fe-43ec-afec-82594122b70f/rp_smallbunker_v50019.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/517/a76caf8f-68b2-4b7d-9250-482212c56c20/rp_smallbunker_v50015.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/517/539d7467-e0f7-472c-aaae-41ee42715ee0/rp_smallbunker_v50010.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/517/7d5492bc-25d7-45ab-834b-1f9bfe2d62df/rp_smallbunker_v50011.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/517/4925153d-7c13-4ea7-8571-5e48d2ae1ce2/rp_smallbunker_v20051.png
heavily inspired by Eli's Den from the leak I imagine?
I have no idea why, but I'm really just not happy with the textures. Any suggestions on how to make them look better? Or am I just being hard on myself https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113201/cf3a4b86-c023-41dc-8474-9f67a0385789/20190410115414_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113201/a1abb70a-26cb-4deb-996d-241381099afd/20190410115410_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113201/a7682cc8-5321-4b69-bd3f-3c8b7240e755/20190410115408_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113201/b1a964f1-47ae-48bf-9814-34e0697a9843/20190410115401_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113201/1df94a2e-5cf9-425a-87e7-208bdacdad03/20190410115355_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113201/e955d5b0-bf7e-4d18-8c80-c3b07204bbb8/20190410115357_1.jpg
This is absolutely magnificent. It made my day. Please either release it, or at the very least send it to me for personal use. It's fantastic.
Bumpmapping and envmapping.
That's really inspiring, great work on this. The lighting and how your props are set up give me a myst vibe.
@Leigh Can you add me on steam? I have a private question for you about mapping and FP doesn't believe in DM's anymore. Profile link: Steam Community
What frame textures? The dark wood?
Still need to fix some stuff up, but I‘ll most likely release it in the coming weeks; feature creep has kept me from finishing up since the last time I posted about this, and this as good a time as any to finish up, especially with such demand <3
I assume they meant here, yes, to align the wood grain in the texture with the window frame. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/132374/1a78d131-a5a7-4463-9dea-1c97323ecb9d/image.png Also maybe being nitpicky so feel free to disregard, but those frames are a bit thicc. Typically they're a thinner border sitting on a slightly thicker border. Excuse the shitty mspaint diagram https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/132374/e604f4b3-c3f1-4b88-a64b-cfe72a646e45/image.png
How do I create an alpha channel and make sure it's transparent for a texture?
i made my light ENV the HL2 sunset and this is what it looks like on rp springyard city https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/256233/dda232dd-14d6-4823-8253-fd9ee66d0c8d/20190411105652_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/256233/8b83ed57-5320-4871-b4c4-fe7c8be3f18c/20190411105648_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/256233/0a57ab77-d76a-468e-88fc-1dccfd34cafb/20190411105014_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/256233/ccbe7e28-369e-4a99-aaeb-beaab41bf53e/20190411105011_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/256233/11563a0b-1d1e-4972-a2e5-cb5290a1f929/20190411104957_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/256233/3fa98161-7447-4fa2-91fb-324723cdd5d4/20190411104947_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/256233/ce9e81d2-946b-4ba0-8df4-14e4985d687d/20190411104935_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/256233/9938176f-6841-4aa7-91d7-82e92c944c83/20190411104940_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/256233/01f5f350-8f81-4900-93cc-a70874fb5c97/20190411104917_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/256233/eb506d0f-c766-491b-95bf-6d48084fe21e/20190411104933_1.jpg
Invert your alpha map. As for your textures, they need some detail in them. Currently they are too flat even for tf2. As for the wall textures, make them just a little bit darker.
I have bumpmaps, when you get up close they look better.
It's good but the walls need more details. Stuff like power sockets and light switches. Just a few here and there to make the walls less barren.

Now this is a stunning view mate!
The way your textureblends are set up looks dope, love the mood you're creating here
