Hey guys. DataTool should be backwards compatible with older versions of Overwatch right? Any idea why I get this when I try to extract using latest DataTool from the Summer 2018 Overwatch client? (I also tried the latest client, but I get the same error. Hmm, I must be downloading it from the wrong place. Is the link on the first post of this thread no longer up to date? I grabbed toolchain-release.zip from there. I have found the latest version on the previous page though, thanks!

CASCLib is focused towards WoW, we rewrote the entire library into TACTLib because the two codebases were getting extremely annoying to keep track of.

Thanks Naomi, I use that viewer to extract the models independently from the structure of the datatool, and can have the props separately
Deleted the entire folder. Reinstalled, played once (to unlock everything) Tried the same code and ended up with this : https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/133411/de33adbf-e9a6-4c35-be49-bee31a91bf96/image.png No errors or anything and nothing got extracted either, the entire folder it's supposed to go to is empty
Well for some reason you have two output folders and the filter isn't correct. The command should be datatool.exe f:\hots\2\overwatch extract-unlocks ./skins "*|skin=(event=halloween)"
Thanks! This has fixed my problem but now when I try to open the files with "griffon studios 3d model viewer v3.1" I now get the error when opening a model "unable to load model, unable to read beyond the end of stream" What can I do to fix that?
I don't think the viewer has been updated to support the new model system that Overwatch got in version 1.12
I believe I've used it less then a few months ago though, but how else would I be able to convert the models to a usable format then?
Hey all.. does Overwatch have a working crack/patch to play the game or is it a purchase only option atm?? (I've never played it.. yet)
No, it's a multiplayer game? How could you play it without owning the game? We don't endorse getting the game illegally, this thread is for Overwatch Modelling (mostly) and the tools posted here require you to own the game. if you want to play it you can play it during one of it's Free Weekends (it's had several) or buy the game.
You don't endorse acquiring the game illegally, yet you are extracting the game content via reverse engineering.. also illegally??
I haven't had the time to update the tool to fix that problem. What I do is use the TankViewer (previously CASC Explorer ) to extract all the .00C models, then use the ConvertTool.exe to convert them to owmdl. My viewer reads the .owmdl too I don't see that tool anymore, maybe you guys should re-add it to the ToolChain.exe plz ? T.
I mean it's not technically illegal? It might be against Blizzard's ToS but we don't advocate anyone obtain the game (and its files) illegally or upload models and game assets for people, if anyone wants them they can use the tools provided to get the files themselves. Reverse engineering in general is not illegal, there are a few factors that can tip the scale but it's not like the tools use any private or confidential informational that assist in the reverse engineering.

The Blizzard EULA: License Limitations. Blizzard may suspend or revoke your license to use the Platform, or parts, components and/or single features thereof, if you violate, or assist others in violating, the license limitations set forth below. You agree that you will not, in whole or in part or under any circumstances, do the following: ... vi. Data Mining: Use any unauthorized process or software that intercepts, collects, reads, or “mines” information generated or stored by the Platform; provided, however, that Blizzard may, at its sole and absolute discretion, allow the use of certain third-party user interfaces.
They even allow you to use their model for Starcraft II mods ( like HotS models), since it's also theirs.

Ok so now I'm confused af. What's the best way to convert the files then? I have no idea which build has the convert tool. And the datatool has put them in OWMDL files But the model viewer still doesnt open them
Don't use ConvertTool. Use DataTool, Taylor needs to fix his viewer. There is always the Blender Importer.

Thanks! I've used it to import in blender EXP to FBX and then import in 3dsmax. But there are no longer any UVW map data... how can I go about fixing that?
You can also us my Max Overwatch Importer tools, but it only works with the raw data files not the owmdl stuff. I do think the Blender importer is more advanced, mine does not import any materials, it does import animations T.
Don't pretend you have the moral high ground when you were the one asking for a pirated crack of the game a few posts ago.
