I think both builds are whichever are the latest. and i've never tried using datatool by itself so I don't know if the fact it immediately closes is working or not, but Ill assume it's not working either.
sorry this all sounds extremely stupid but i've never used CASC before now, I've just been using Yernemm's extracting GUI with datatool.
DataTool is a command line program. You can't just double click it.
DataTool is currently not working on the latest Overwatch build you will have to wait a little while until it gets fixed.
im just trying to extract old files, not new ones. does datatool need to be fully updated in order to work with CASC, even if I'm just trying to extract files from a patch from months ago?
You have't really provided much information, no PREVIOUS version of DATATOOL/CASC/CASCEXPLORER will work on ANY NEW VERSION of Overwatch only old versions. If you're trying to use any tools on the LATEST OVERWATCH VERSION which is 1.26.0.3.49154 (which you can see in Battle.net next to the play button), it will not work.
If you're using an OLDER version of Overwatch such as 1.25, it will work.
This is the current latest version of the tools https://ci.appveyor.com/project/yukimono/owlib/branch/overwatch/1.14/artifacts
It only supports Overwatch 1.25 at this time
As zing mentioned above, the tools are a command line program, you need to use a command window to use them, opening it as a normal file will not work. If you don't know how to do this then the tools probably aren't for you.
@Js41637 ... Any chance of a GUI release?
thanks
if I may, I don't really like being talked down to, I just got here. I shouldn't be expected to know everything so soon and it's not like i have a friend to ask about it
but thank you for the help, @Js41637
GUI != DataTool.
Got the CMF and keys now... but something has changed in the way that default unlocks (e.g classic skin) are defined and extraction for them is broken. Going to hold out releasing until I can figure out what changed.
Sorry about the wait.
The GUIs are QuickDataTool and OWorkbench, but the files that need to be updated between patches is DataTool.
@StealthClobber @MythNarwe (& the rest of you that will reply to this spreading your hate)... Guys yooz are pretty nasty when it come to your emoticons... I'd prob agree with @zingballyhoo 'Bad Reading' because I am a little to lazy to read every detail of this thread... but seriously, I mean is it worth asking questions around here because some of you sure don't make us feel welcome..
There has been talk about making an official GUI to make the tools a bit easier to use and to alleviate some of the problems that community made GUIs have but it's not something that will be getting looked into at the moment, maybe sometime after TankLib is done which is kinda like a successor to OWLib/STULib/CASCLib but it's a lot of work and progressing slowly.
Nice edit, just so you know a lot of us receive emails/alerts every time someone comments so, we always see the original message :p

Used OWLib 1.26.0.593
Version number has been bumped, but OWLib does not currently support 1.26, you have to wait for us to fix it.
I don't know how you ended up with a build from the dev branch, but I would never recommend using builds from there as they can be incredibly WIP and broken.
As I mentioned above you should only use builds from the overwatch/1.14 branch. It's where new, up to date versions will be commited. You can see all overwatch/1.14 builds here: https://ci.appveyor.com/project/yukimono/owlib/branch/overwatch/1.14/artifacts
I would advise against using other branches, lot of dev stuff has debuggers that will crash when trying to run outside of development mode.
Just to reiterate, the reason the tools haven't been updated yet is due to a number of changes to how Unlocks work that has broken all extraction among other things. When this is fixed an update will be released.
We have one on standby but we want to finish TankLib first.
Just wanted to throw out there a thanks for the tools, and I hope you can figure out how to fix the Unlocks changes. Good luck!
Hi! Tell me somebody how to work with all these tools
You can't extract right now; the tools are still on version 1.25. Either you have a previous version of OW on your computer backed up, or you wait until the tools are updated to 1.26.
I just want to point this out, with every major update don't expect the tools to be immediately updated. Often a lot of files change which require us to bugfix a bunch of things to get it working agian. Please for now, and in the future on other releases be patient.
Asking the same question over and over again with each patch not only frustrates us, it makes us feel the drag of updating the tools more.
Now the scope of these changes isn't as bad as 1.14 (also known as the patch that broke me and I gave most of the work to Zingy), but it's still big enough to break a lot of things relating to unlock parsing and extracting. We will have a fix out for this when we figure out what is going on.
Understood. I downloaded Overwatch for the first time in my life, and I didn't know the details. I guess I'll have to wait.
I think in future threads it might be best to add in the first post something along the lines of
"If the game updates, the tools need to update too. The versions MUST match." and "We will NOT be able to extract assets from the PTR." I think that's the majority of posts recently.
The tools should already alert if extraction isn't supported, or if it's a PTR build (often one and the same.) We still get people asking about it here.
Versions matching also won't work because we have "developmental builds" which are still broken and don't work yet but they are under the correct version.

If you find any issues please let me know asap
Well can't extract Hammond's classic skin, but I guess that issue still hasn't been fixed.
I guess that issue still hasn't been fixed.
This is not what the issue was.

There is also an error in the extraction of voicelines (pt-br):
Processing data for Wrecking Ball
Saving Default
Exceção Sem Tratamento: System.NullReferenceException: Referência de objeto não definida para uma instância de um objeto.
em DataTool.ToolLogic.Extract.ExtractHeroVoice.SaveHeroSounds(ICLIFlags toolFlags)
em DataTool.ToolLogic.Extract.ExtractHeroVoice.Parse(ICLIFlags toolFlags)
em DataTool.Program.Main()
When extracting in other language than English, specify the localized name of the character, like "Fatale" for Widowmaker if you are set to the French locale.
In pt-br, the name Wrecking Ball has not been localized, remains Wrecking Ball.
The tool seems to fail extracting skins models and voicelines right now, I had to extract each classic skin one by one. Map extraction is working normally.
DataTool 1.26.0.602
Changelog:
Voiceline extraction should work (extract-hero-voice), I haven't tested other languages but it worked for me when extracting hammond
Added a hero override for Hammond (you can use Hammond instead of Wrecking Ball if you like)
Misc stuff

Toolchain: https://ci.appveyor.com/api/buildjobs/jsrqpas4mmqhh1q8/artifacts/dist%2Ftoolchain-release.zip
Example:
Extracting all Hammond voicelines:
DataTool.exe {overwatch_dir} extract-hero-voice {output_dir} "hammond"
Skin extraction was working for me? What exactly are you trying to do? The following command seemed to work for me (i didn't let it fully run)
DataTool.exe {overwatch_dir} extract-unlocks {output_dir} "hammond|skin=(leagueteam=none)"
Does anyone have the Widowmaker scope/zoom in overlay?
