• Need Help to Find These Models

Thanks for the instructions and video, they was very helpful. I place the textures on the character. But i have two problems, first, it seems too dark, is that correct or there is a way to add more light?, and it appears to not have eyes, i need to look for them on the files or where can i find them?. Thanks. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/ced2d945-2aa4-4397-aa9b-46fa4cc11a6e/1.PNG https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/a65941ea-e991-4f00-bfa7-0a74e3ad0b51/2.PNG
Not near my PC at the moment so just going by memory... Below the 'Modify' tab, there is a 2nd row of small icon buttons.. click on the icon that looks like a flash light 'Lights' .. In the Lights settings, directly below is a drop down menu to select which category of lighting.. change that to 'Standard' & the list of text buttons will change below.. easiest one to get overall lighting & not too much shadowing, press 'Skylight' & then click anywhere in the 3D space to place it into the scene.. You can use any of those lights really, it's just personal preference or whatever lighting effect you're trying to achieve.
I manage to add some lights and i find the eyes and their textures. The problem is that i cant place the eyes correctly, i try and try and i cant get them on the right spot, is there a way to place them correct on their position?. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/3c010a36-fd63-4110-9775-30ad815967b8/1.PNG
Hmm??.. was there more than one character in the scene when you ripped it??.. if so it could very well be another soldier's eyes... eyes can be hit and miss sometimes.. I'm surprised they not even full spheres but it is an older game so... How big is the file size id your ripped folder?... can you files it into a .zip/.rar file.. If not too large, maybe you can upload it to media fire/ Google drive or outlook if you have one of those cloud storage services and share the link??
This is the photo of the scene, there is only one character but there are many objects. A question, if i rip a scene with more light the models will have more light or they will be the same as dark? Here is the link to my Google Drive, i place there the rip files in zip. Its my first time using it, so i dont know if the link will work correctly, if dont work let me know and i try to make it work. https://drive.google.com/drive/my-drive https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/914d08a6-dc00-4551-8c8b-54fcfd233737/332542-brothers-in-arms-hell-s-highway-windows-screenshot-main-menu.jpg
Nah it didn't as it only shows my google drive contents... right click on the .zip file you uploaded in Google Drive & select 'Get Shareable Link'.. a bubble window pops up giving you the shareable link.. just highlight it, copy & paste here
Here is the link 🙂 https://drive.google.com/open?id=1P434_tM2H9OXeEY1d_HYi_TmekdevHZO
Cheers.. that worked!... I gotta go out for a couple of hours... once i get back, ill have a look and see how its setup/ripped.. will be in touch!
I manage to correct the color, i searched a tutorial and i find this, first you need to click on rendering, then click environment, and there change the color, it was black, so i changed to white and now all my character have correct color 🙂 But i still have the problem with the eyes, i cant manage to place them in the correct position. Here is my character in 3DS file. https://drive.google.com/open?id=10vxaZReprxZIwAIhuSipUcW0l74wQDJj https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/dc1e1166-b32b-4d84-8c85-e9948ab72d5e/2.PNG
I may of stuffed up with suggesting to use a Skylight because the model wont render properly with the default 'Scanline' renderer/render engine applied.. I assume you have 3ds max 2019?.. I still use 2016 so I'm not sure if Scanline is still the default engine for 2019!?.. Sorry bout that but you are tinkering with trial & error not to mention using your initiative to lookup tutorials, so this is good! I use Mental Ray for my renderer & a Skylight will work fine with that engine, but i forgot to mention that! (Whoops) & besides, Mental Ray is no longer is included in the latest Max versions which doesn't help you.. I cleared all the duplicates of the soldier as I mentioned earlier & below is all the individual parts... You most likely wont need the separate torso/arms/hands etc so the single body mesh will be fine.. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/277755/c5fd1edb-4f54-4bfa-8d36-28b625d1dd71/bia SoldierParts.png The reason I believe why your eyes didn't align correctly with the rest of the soldier is either you moved the body or the eyes away from its original rip XYZ coordinates.. because when I ripped the entire scene, the eyes were in the correct position as below ** You also have separate 'Teeth' mesh, if you hadn't already discovered it https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/277755/d0125642-ddee-4a4c-a77d-df6d363ea1f7/EyesandMouth.png And here is my .max file with all of the meshes complete with no duplicates. http://www.mediafire.com/file/zap46g6fy4643y5/bia_soldier_MESHONLY.max/file
Thank you for fixing the soldier, it looks amazing 🙂 🙂 I give him the textures and colors. I think its ready, what is the next step? Here is the link for the complete soldier: bia_soldier_Color.zip https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/aca60968-70e3-489f-baa4-31bb2b7bfc3c/1.PNG
As I mentioned earlier I'm not into porting models for games so no idea on that side but if you are proficient with SFM this will certainly help you understand the process quicker better than me!...but you will need to have your character rigged regardless... There is a character auto rig website by Adobe called Mixamo.. best time saver around! & takes the difficulty out of having to learn rigging from scratch.. The guide below will show you how to use it but you will have to export your model from 3ds max first, read the guide about the formats/requirements for mixamo and then start your 'trial & error' journey as this is where it gets potentially tricky.. depending on multiple factors.. Don't mean to scare you but sometimes you can gety lucky and everything is plain sailing but other times it can be problem after problem getting things right, hence trial & error. Upload and rig 3D characters with Mixamo online services I can help you with mixamo but you will have to ask someone else or read up on how to get it into SFM & working properly.. When you do figure it out Mixamo-SFM, please let me know the process as I'd be curious to learn how to do it also!!! D Any probs rigging with mixamo, let me know
Thank you for all the help, i really appreciate it 🙂 🙂 I install Mixamo and learn how to use it, if I have a problem I let you know. When I manage to import Mixamo to SFM I let you know how to to use it.   I have other questions. In the future, I think I also want to extract characters from others games, the games being Ubisoft Games and Battlefield Games, for example, Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, Battlefield 1 and the upcoming Battlefield V. Somewhere I read that the Ubisoft games need another programs and tools to extract characters. And that Battlefield games need others too. And that the upcoming Battlefield V will need others different. Is all that true?, I can extract characters from those games like I did with Hell´s Highway using Ninjaripper and 3DS, or I will need another programs and tools and learn another tutorials? Thanks 🙂
Do you mean you can't use NR to rip those games??.. I haven't ripped from them yet so it is possible??.. I know you can't use NR for Hitman as the meshes come out all warped but there is a thread on here about using a customized tool to extract from the game archives so that may be the case with BF2, AC etc.. Best way to find out is try ripping the games with NR.. A customized extraction tool is always better but NR also has its merits, though some would disagree..
I use the FBX format to extract the character to Mixamo, it loaded perfectly, but the problem is that it looks invisible like a ghost, i tried uploading another character from the same game, but it has the same problem. In 3DS they look perfect, but in Mixamo they look like ghosts. How can i fix that? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/bcd722d9-218d-4405-9046-ec8dfcd26b0e/1.PNG https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/48e38d2b-ea8e-4db6-86f2-01d1bc0c404c/2.PNG https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/d1b4c399-39b9-4b01-9423-0679535e360d/3.PNG https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/4e441507-87a4-4671-880d-44337c34c4f6/4.PNG
That is strange.. maybe that is how .fbx is translated in mixamo with textures included?.. I use .obj without textures when uploading as it's smaller in file size & I don't need the textures included as I bring it back into max anyway.. having said that, I'd probably recommend keeping it as .fbx for yourself as you may need them included for SFM? .. Just go ahead with rigging as it will hopefully display correctly once successfully rigged in the animation section of mixamo?? & maybe not worry too much about textures for now as getting your character rigged/ imported into SFM is more of a priority for now..
I rigged the two characters, they continue seeing like ghosts in animation section, but they got perfectly rigged, and i got them rigged in files with FBX format. Now, what is the next step? 🙂
Sweet!!! yeah don't worry too much about the transparency, that's just mixamo for ya. As long as it doesn't do the same in SFM, you'll be fine.. That's pretty much the end of the road for me friend.. You need to figure out the SFM part yourself or ask someone else.. Let me know how you go as like I said id be keen to know how you do it.. if you're really stuck, I can try and lookup solutions but your a fast learner and you seem to do fine, researching yourself.. Keep in touch & Good Luck!!! PS: rumor has it that facepunch may be closing down soon so just look for my username on discord if you need to contact me
Thank you for all the guide friend 🙂 I will search guides and tutorials for SFM, and i will try asking in this forum, with luck, someaone knows how to do it. When i know how to make them for SFM, i let you know. I really hope Facepunch dont close, thats sad news, if it close i contact you on Discord 🙂
Hello again @wubba 🙂 I spend all the day searching and trying to import the characters to SFM. I tried and tried everything the tutorials say, but simply I cant get it right. Can you please help me?, I tried asking on this forum and on Xentax forum but no one answers, do you know someone on this forum or Xentax forum that know how to import the characters to SFM?, or do you find a way to do it?. Thanks 🙂 I found all this tutorials: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=245723825 https://kicodora.com/?p=blendertosfm https://steamcommunity.com/groups/CrowbarTool https://www.moddb.com/games/half-life-2/tutorials/importing-static-props-into-half-life-2-3ds-max-9 https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Exporting_a_model https://steamcommunity.com/app/1840/discussions/0/35219681615938349/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwbs-7Pp2Ps https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=184572356
@Hauk011 Yeah I noticed no one replied to your new thread... Unfortunately thats the harsh reality of asking for help on the forums sometimes... you either gotta be patient in hoping someone will reply & give you decent answers or keep attempting to research yourself.. Don't worry... We've all been there & endured the cold shoulders of arrogant, ignorant & immature gamer's/hackers/dev's.. still do!.. (the 'Overwatch' thread is one).. but don't get me wrong, they aren't all like that.. but a decent percentage are.. just don't take it personal. A lot of people on here & other forums like Xentax etc have the experience to pull off what you want to achieve but probably don't have the time to guide you step by step like I have or just simply cant be bothered helping someone out to that degree because if you don't have the foundation of 3D modelling experience, It can be fairly difficult to explain how to achieve your goal if you don't know the required programs & terminology basics.. Which is pretty much the reason why I decided to support you in getting you to the stage you're at with your character now... Funny enough, I have been looking into it but I wont be able to get back to you as quick as I have previously as it may take time with research/trial & error (not to mention I need to be looking for work as lost my job recently & have a mortgage to pay off).. but will help you where I can This below thread has a lot of promise as it seems one method is to export from 3ds max to Blender & then to SFM.. but you would need to get your head around Blender so its just extra work (bugger that!) So this one appears to be about Max plugins/scripts that import/export formats between Max to SFM &/or other Source/Steam related apps??.. so potentially a time saver!!! Have a browse! 3DS Max SMD Plugins
@wubba Thanks for the help and for the tips. I will read that thread about Max plugins. I will continue researching and testing trial & error. With luck, someone will reply In my other thread in this forum or the one in Xentax. I will try to be patient and wait for someone to reply, while I wait I will continue trying. Good luck with the research, and good luck looking for a new job, I hope you find an excellent one 🙂 Lets try to figure how to make it work for SFM, lets keep in touch and share our learnings 🙂
Sounds like a plan!!! .. will do
Was reading along just now, so thought I would drop this link for you... Best way I have seen to export to a Steam Game from BLENDER (free) You will need all the files first like source.sdk and the like but the link will take you to them. Blender Source Tools ( I see it is also linked in the first tutorial.) SFM from Blender The First tutorial that wubba gave you is the BEST! + all the links you will need! But this is using blender, which if you have never used, can be daunting...and IMHO is far better than 3ds Max for porting! I can help some with the blender interface, but I have only imported and not exported to SFM, but once all the parts are assembled, it should not be very hard for you to do! Holler if you need help, I will do what I can...
I imported my two 3DS characters to Blender, in 3DS I assigned them the textures, but the problem is in Blender, they don’t have the texture, I look in the texture panel and apparently the textures are there, I tried to follow the tutorials but I cant manage to put the textures. Can you please help @RScott ?. Thanks. Here are the photos, in the first is in 3DS, the second is in Blender. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/1630671e-0684-4414-b1c0-196488017abd/2.PNG https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/341853/25f1c240-7344-4f2b-b0d7-1515d483ce51/1.PNG
There are several possible reasons reasons. I am going to assume you have it set to display textures https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/137945/464a385a-bf8d-47c8-a1ef-a1830939dc3f/TextureSelect.png That should do it.. unless it comes out either black or very dark... Then hit "N' and in the new window... scroll down to ...shading and click Textured solid, https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/137945/e4cf9b1f-464a-413b-9c42-14f4a0c6b4d2/TextureSelect2.png if that IS already selected, the it should show... https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/137945/33dcc37a-9c5d-40d2-8ec9-79c5b345bc9a/TextureSelect3.png something like this... MultiTexture and then select SHADELESS to turn of any or all lights ( they might have imported with the .3ds) and you will get a generic overall viewport shading and no lights. One of those should do... If not then we shall have to look and check if the textures are really assigned or not...
I followed all the steps, but i cant get the textures right, the characters looks completely black. Here are my characters files. Thanks for the help 🙂 character2.zip character1.zip
Hey @Hauk011 noticed the thread hasn't been active for over a week.. are you stuck?
Hello @wubba 🙂, im stuckd in these two things, i cant get the textures right in Blender, but i leaved that for later and instead i tried to use the characters with incorrect textures as a test, im trying and trying to import them to SFM, but i cant do it right, im trying to follow this tutorial, i think its the the one that best explains what im trying to do. Can you please help me?, Thanks. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=245723825
I wish I could like I did with NR... I'm surprised @RScott hasn't gotten back to you as ive seen him around... That steam tutorial is a little concerning as the guy who wrote it admitted he didn't know if there was a quicker way other than the Blender method. I don't user Blender therefore or would be even a more steeper learning curve which I ain't particularly keen on and i always prefer a more efficient solution so if I'm to help you, I will trial the 3ds max method. Having said that, I'll wait for rscott to get back to you helping out with the Blender method... if he don't respond, I shall commence...
