But why was it posted? Also is there any way to convert the obj to a vmf format?
Try saving it as a .mdl in some program, I don't know what modeller will allow you to open .obj's and save as .mdl's, but then you should just be able to import it into hammer as a static model, put a skybox around it, some spawns, and hopefully the collision will work nicely.
Google came up with some links for 3ds max -> obj. Dunno about obj -> vmf, but there's a plug-in for 3D Studio Max here. It'd need a complete remake, HL2 uses displacements and has very limited model collision (like 24 simple objects max) for a collision file. It'd either need to be several different (very poorly lit) models, or remade. There's more problems but I'm lazy. I thought this thread was about programming not porting maps to source actually, what happened, cbb to read it all
Nothing so far. We are collecting ideas on irc://irc.gamesurge.net/fpcoders for a new vote.
So I am guessing this is dead?
Well, just a bunch of hours ago we talked a little about it in IRC. I guess a new vote can now be made.
Well I am always on IRC and nobody is ever on or talking. It makes me sad.
Not really many people seem to be interested, so much for the attention span of the users here.
