Just want to say, procedural programming != procedural generation. If the contest is about procedural programming, as the first link in the OP suggests, then the game I programmed on my calculator is applicable for this contest.
The wikipedia link is to procedural content, i would guess procedural generation
The wikipedia link is to procedural content, i would guess procedural generation
I assume it used to link to procedural programming and Loli changed it
Procedural space ship! (note: with procedural, I mean that the location/size of the shapes is hardcoded, but that the shapes themselves are textures generated on the fly (no polygons, because SFML lacks the feature to anti-alias polygons while they are rendered to a RenderTarget))
Do we have to procedurally design our own processor?
That's actually an awesome idea. *adds to todo list*
Solar flares?
Yes actually, I'm trying to work out how would I render a solar flare to be pretty.
Well I'm on holiday and I want something to do - so I guess I will give Fuck Shit Up a go. I'm not aiming for the original idea here - that was ridiculous. Just the core system of "here is a city, do whatever you want". I'll be mainly working on an idea I had for building generation using pre made parts and some basic rules focusing around hallways. Then turning that into a city that you can walk around in and enter the buildings.
Teaser for my concept. Also, the concept was conceived whilst I was drunk so I'm not too sure I will follow through with this.
I'm thinking for my entry why not make a tower defence game where the towers and npc's are both randomly generated.
Does anyone have a copy of the Fuck Shit Up post? I'd be interested in re-reading it.

Does a game like the classic top down shootemups where it looks like you're moving but its really just creating stuff ahead of you count?
I might make a text-based adventure game for this. I'd have to figure out how to make a parser and all that first, though. Is it till September 1st, or some other date?
I think so, but only landscapes wouldn't be enough procedurally generated content to get a high score in the theme I think.
Well one I'm working on creates the landscape, obstacles, enemies, and "powerups"
I hope many people will donate/run for this.
I just had a better idea for my entry, why should a persido random number generator be used as a source, it is so over done.
I'm not participating myself, but I figured some of you still looking for ideas might find this interesting. Me and my group just finished our revision of an academic paper on procedural game content generation, and sent it back to the editors of ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications. The paper is a survey of Procedural Content Generation for Games: http://pds.twi.tudelft.nl/~iosup/pcg-g-survey11tomccap_rev_sub.pdf (accepted with revisions; revision submitted July 2011) It has a ton of references that you might find useful.
Enter me in this, I got an awesome idea :D
Finally decided on a concept. Still working out a few kinks, but here is some concept for it. It's about a man who is drafted into military service due to the conscription laws in Britain. I don't want to give away too much information as I am strongly relying on story for this game. There won't be too much actual game play, but it should still be fun and different. Also, too much blood?
I play games for their story, so I can't wait for this :)
Awesome... Also, too much blood?
I don't think it's too much, but it perhaps would look better if it was dry.
Awesome... Also, too much blood?
I agree with Zeeky sorta. I think the blood looks too fresh, maybe make it a bit browner and darker for age, and a bit more translucent. But the amount is pretty good.
Better?
I had a really creepy dream about some sort of sci-fi dungeon I was stuck in, but it was procedurally generated floating platform in a huge black empty room, and I could only go down. And those platforms contained rooms from my house or school or other places I've spent some time in... I also for some reason was certain I was a game as I had the feeling that I've seen just that in a game once... I'm creeped out by my dream :tinfoil:
Can it be in any program/language or does it have to be done with C? [editline]16th July 2011[/editline] Can it be in any program/language or does it have to be done with C? If not, my WIP (In Flash):
