I love you Riemer, so, so much. 3D terrain rendering from a heightmap, moving reflective and refractive water with a bump map and specular highlights... It's too perfect!
I actually coded most of this myself, too, as the tutorial doesn't with with XNA 4.0. I feel like I've learnt much more.

Hey, I also converted it to XNA4!
I tried to implement perlin noise but it failed, and I had a solution in my sleep so I am going to try that.

Oh thank lord, i thought it was just me being shitty that it didn't work with my XNA 4.0. Would you might re-writing or updating that tutorial so it works with 4.0? i would really appreciate it and so would alot of other people.

the only external dependency it has is the boehm gc, other than that it's just the standard library
I hate java. Fuck. Does anyone know if java has a way to create a Date from a value of seconds, and then get the total years, months, days, minutes, seconds from that? As in, years will increase for ever, but every 60 seconds is a new minute, every 1440 minutes is a new day and every 30 days is a new month and every 12 months is a new year? I'd rather not do all the math myself...
And I tried using new Date(seconds*1000) and calling getYears()... on that but it gave me incorrect data. It is incorrect because I looked it up on wolframalpha, which gave me much more reasonable results.
Read the javadoc. Its based off of Milliseconds from the *nux epoch
Would any of you guys mind being a bro for me and looking over a resume I wrote up? I'm sending it in for an internship position at ArenaNet(Guild Wars 2 guys) and I need random feedback on the formatting and information included on it.
Hey Maurice, looks like the collegehumour guys had the same Not Mario™ idea as you:

I didn't realise so many people had this problem! I can try to upload my code, but doing it step by step probably won't happen as I've.. done it now! There's some links in his forum to other peoples attempts, they kind of work but their style sucked so I just did it from scratch, but for example:
http://www.riemers.net/Forum/index.php?var=2046&var2=0
You might find that more helpful than me
As long as you have this bookmarked, converting XNA 3 code to XNA 4 is piss easy.

Tokenising in C is hilariously annoying :v:
Seeing as the gamesourge IRC is pretty much dead I was wondering if anyone would participate more in the IRC if it was on a more used network like freenode?

How would the network be relevant?
How would the network be relevant?
Well if more people are on freenode then theres more chance that they would join in with the chat
Was just a thought
I would join more often if it were on freenode.
I would join more often if it were on freenode.
Well created #fpcoders on irc.freenode.net if anyone preffers freenode
hey guys I added zoom and re-did scrolling..but ended up re-starting QViewIt from scratch at the same time because i'm a fag

Can you zoom untill 1 pixel? I really would like that. Heheh.

The Steam group chat makes the IRC channel somewhat redundant, imo.

(You can zoom pretty damn far, that's only as far as I could go before I got tired of scrolling..)
I prefer IRC, its less of a clusterfuck than steam group chats, and it doesnt constantly get in the way by flashing orange.

Yeah, it sucks that you can't disable notifications for Steam chats

IRC is much better for linux users, I dont want to use wine for steam and Vapor wont work(not to mention it doesnt support group chats)
I prefer IRC, its less of a clusterfuck than steam group chats, and it doesnt constantly get in the way by flashing orange.
The first point makes absolutely no sense and the second can be disabled.
The Steam group chat makes the IRC channel somewhat redundant, imo.
IRC is a million times more portable.
Yeah but I quite like my friends messages to give me a notification, and by clusterfuck, I mean, in IRC you can direct messages to people and many clients will give you a notification if somebody @'s you. In steam chat its one big chat...end. And quite often many messages come at once. Just my personal preference.
I would rather have an active Steam chat than a dead IRC. Regardless of portability or whatever.
Somebody make something that posts the IRC chat to the steam chat and vice versa
Somebody make something that posts the IRC chat to the steam chat and vice versa
I once had the idea, but since steam can't be very easily communicated with I didn't get into making it.
Or just use the IRC, it's a million times better than Steam chat.
#fpcoders is dead because its in a cycle of nobody watching the channel because nobody talks and nobody talks because nobody notices when someone is talking.
You might as well use #luahelp, it's 99% off-topic anyway and all the cool people are there.
