Just about to start learning some basic programming. I think I'll go with C++, as I hear it's one of the more standard ones. I came to this thread because I didn't want to start a thread about it, as it's a pretty simple question: What compiler should I use for C++?
Please learn something like Python first. C++ and C are low level are require you to know nitty gritty details, while stuff like Python doesn't.

Contrary to the above (above damn you ninja) poster's opinion, installing mingw consists of running one executable and then leaving it for a bit. Code::blocks auto-sets up with mingw so that isnt an issue either
Did Overv give up on Open.gl? I've been waiting for it for forever, I really want to get into OpenGL.
Please learn something like Python first. C++ isnt that difficult even for a beginner, i think the things that get people is the concept of functions and programming in general, rather than the "nitty gritty" as you put it Even so, my advice is just to pick a language and see how you like it. If you dont, move on, if you do, stick with it [editline]30th August 2011[/editline]
Did Overv give up on Open.gl? If C::B is easy to set up, then by all means use that.
Vote on which version of the treads I use for the tank treads in my game: (They're animated, but capturing a GIF just for this would be more than it'd be worth.) Thanks guys. That was the one I was going to use, but I just wanted to make sure first.
Things are craaazy Giantbomb want an interview with us, I have no idea what this site is, but we're currently first, so that's good I guess. We already have over 5k site visits today (2 hours) when it was 12k yesterday (Which is already amazing).
GiantBomb and HackerNews? At this rate you'll be on the FBI Watchlist by the end of the week :v:
Did you tell that to Chandler yet
I've known about it for quite some time, even had the release candidates installed before my Windows PC's HDD and RAM went and died on me :|
Did Overv give up on Open.gl? I've been waiting for it for forever, I really want to get into OpenGL.
You can do something like what Polkm and I did to learn. My method was to use open.gl for context creation and learning to load extensions. Then use the combined knowledge from http://www.opengl-tutorial.org/ and http://www.swiftless.com/opengltuts/opengl4tuts.html to learn the rest. Opengl-tutorial.org has especially good matrices tutorials. Of course a prerequisite math background is required to understand things like matrix and vector transformations described by these sites. You (and anyone else) can add me on Steam and I can help you get you're first cube up. (However, only add me if you know the prerequisite math I described above. I won't bother with the math) [editline]29th August 2011[/editline]
Vote on which version of the treads I use for the tank treads in my game: (They're animated, but capturing a GIF just for this would be more than it'd be worth.)
The third (informative one) is more accurate since it's flat on top for a length then it rounds off. The second (disagree one) depicts it as the treads curving down from the middle like a curve with no straight part.
This reminds me of the countless hours I spent in MS Paint just drawing like bridges and houses and then blowing them up and making jailbreaks with brushes and fires with the spray tool and mining massive piles of gold. Those were simpler days.
Damn, if only somebody had walked up to me and said "Hey, you should try programming, you seem to have the mindset for it" when I was doing this.

Maurice: So when are you meeting Gabe? Going to use this for my pipeline.
Maurice: So when are you meeting Gabe?
The correct question is when Gabe will meet me.

I'm still waiting for someone to post the video in the Videos section here on FP, so I can be all "Hey guys" and everyone will rate me funny and winner!!!! [editline].[/editline] http://www.facebook.com/smosh I'm going mad
Holy shit! Keep on with the good work, you are getting more popular every day! Also feature facepunch ([sp]and me[/sp]) in the interview Now that I think of it, the exploit I found would have been abused by now with more and more people coming to the site

-snip- (my bad, thought it was the help thread)

Is it for the little ones down there? Do you think you're cool when you post 3 pictures instead of giving an actual reply? Because it just makes you look like a douche.
Because it just makes you look like a douche.
That's just because he is one. Devbug, when are you going to advance from normal mapping?
GCC with -std=c++0x -Wall -Wextra -pedantic
Fixed that for ya.
I just attempted to tweet to notch about Mari0, we'll see what happens!
I just attempted to tweet to notch about Mari0, we'll see what happens!
If the server explodes I'll hold you responsible Even though today (in the last 12 hours) we got three times the visitors that we got yesterday (in the entire day). I have no idea where people keep coming from. (I love finding excuses to post the statistics bullshit, it's satisfying)
When are you going to learn to read window titles? [editline]30th August 2011[/editline] Don't assume.
You do actually realize that isn't an answer?

I'm still seeing only one light on one object at a time, so there's not much deferred shading going on.

Edit: Before I leave to relax, 36 point lights (ignore low performance, full screen quad per light). Download and replace in drt2.zip http://ahb.me/3_gg
