This might sound stupid, but is there not away to just make the scale of the portals not affect light at all? Or would that just mess things up?
This might sound stupid, but is there not away to just make the scale of the portals not affect light at all? Or would that just mess things up?
Uh. If there was, we wouldn't be having this conversation ;)
But you're still at the same problem, except you're making it less obvious. Your Method: Record all action to a file, at end encode to movie file (slowly) My Method: Record all action to a movie. I'll just use fraps.
Well, the demo thing makes it possible to take multiple angles, different views, etc., and so is a hundred times better for people who make movies using the engine. If you do a straight recording then that becomes impossible. You decide if it's worth it.
Anyways, considering the frustration scaled portals bring, I enjoyed some other stuff: [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIa8D8G3q_E[/hd] if that doesn't work:

So wierd how gravity is affecting it in 2 directions relative to the object :psypop: Have you thought about adding magnets or anything? :buddy:
Cool. So wierd how gravity is affecting it in 2 directions relative to the object :psypop:
Yup. If you turn the second portal the other way around, the object will actually get pushed back out of the first portal because it's getting sucked into the second (instead of pulled out of).
Have you thought about adding magnets or anything? :buddy:
Yup. Complete with gravity tinkering and wall-walking and all that. And that's something that's coming. But I want the ability to record what you're doing right now. These features aren't mutually exclusive.

That habbo clone is so cool :) Hope you make it just like habbo but with unlimited creds. I need something interesting to program :( Maybe I'll do Fuck Shit Up
Cool habbo clone :3.
I don't want it to be a habbo clone, I'm just using their art as a placeholder. Although a DirectX version of habbo would be pretty cool seeing as they have now made it using flash urghh. Not worth the effort though, just doing this to leeeearn
Please do, and habbo use shockwave.
Well the new one has flash options when you right click, that might be for something else though.

Why did it take a while to slide through?
Why did it take a while to slide through?
Static friction.
Eh, getting to grips with SFML, decided to port some old Processing code over. I can't be shitted to get it to work with XCode, if it's not ObjC it's a drudgery. Paintbrush with variable size Paint-by-blocks. I saw nos' mapmaker and then jiggled around a bit and did my own. Hopefully I can make the paint-by-blocks app resolution-independent if I get the hang of Boost's multiarray libary. Or I might as well get off my ass and wade through Apple's documentation :wince:

Ok my raytracer works.. kind of just image that being a sphere okay?
A few buddy's of mine (and me) have been working on a Starcraft (I know right) tournament/ladder site. People can upload replays and it stores them and reads their dataz; telling you your actions-per-minute, who won, who lost etc. I'm excited, it's going ... on the actual internets on Monday :D AJAX is a total bitch to debug.

For me there was a whole world of differency trying to get it to work with the mouse instead of keyboard. [editline]09:16PM[/editline] I mean the map editor. [editline]09:17PM[/editline] Oh yeah and is it actually holding which blocks are being used in an array? [editline]09:17PM[/editline] Sorry I just find it interesting since we're doing roughly the same thing.
Quick video with buggy scaling portals:
Looks pretty bug free to me! Does it also scale the mass and the gravitational pull of the resized half of the object?
That is AWESOME! I wouldn't even worry about the light differences. I wouldn't have noticed it at all if you hadn't mentioned it.
Does it also scale the mass and the gravitational pull of the resized half of the object?
Yup. Well, even scaling objects without the use of portals will change their mass (the engine calculates the current density before scaling and then uses the new volume after scaling to correct the mass). [editline]05:01PM[/editline]
I wouldn't even worry about the light differences. I wouldn't have noticed it at all if you hadn't mentioned it.
Notice the perfect camera positioning in the video :v: It's noticeable when you compare the non-scaled portals to the scaled portals (maybe no so much if you only see the scaled portals).
Are you able to move objects around that's gone through the portal.. through the portal? Can't word it better.
Are you able to move objects around that's gone through the portal.. through the portal? Can't word it better.
I don't get it. Move the same object that's already gone through the portal, through the portal gain? Of course, I used the same ball 3 times.
That looks amazing. Why not blur the edge in the portal? That was texture differences will blend better etc.
I don't get it. Move the same object that's already gone through the portal, through the portal gain? Of course, I used the same ball 3 times.
can you grab the object through the portal that one. Because i remember in the old engine the object would 'snap' around if you moved the object into a portal while still grabbing it.
Oh I get it. Like grab from the other side of the portal?
