Why would you want to make a game in a tool that uses CPU only for it's rendering?
I'm not talking about games now, I'm talking about the fact that Flash is an extremely useful tool in webdevelopment.
You should have a perl section.
nevermind, I see you've reorganized it by archetype rather than language
It's a great tool, and you are going to exclude it just because it's not cross-platform, and you are going to exclude Java also? If you want teens to join, why the hell are you excluding so many languages, what would keep them from not just going to another forum?
I would totally have joined if you hadn't excluded Flash, and what would you lose if you did have a Flash section? You would only gain members, not lose them.
And also, AIR is cross-platform. Though I have only tried it on Windows.
I don't think you got my point
1) I have no affliation whatsoever with the administration of Young Developer
2) I did not say that those forums would be excluded
3) My post was merely a rant of how bad cross-platform support really is in Java, AIR, and Flash, where cross-platform support is supposed to be a major selling point.

Ok, sorry for that, I got an impression of you somehow being involved in that forum.^^
"YOU DON'T HAVE THIS YOU FUCK YOU I'M NOT JOINING"
Pretty much. You can talk about it in Web Dev though, that's how it's organized.
Eventually you will get better and use C++. Also, rated myself agree :P.
Umm, no.
Some people actually make a living by doing flash, and there are plenty of very skilled Flash programmers.
Cool. I will check this out.
Flash basically is almost cross-platform. It works on Windows, OSX and all the major Unices, on at least x86, x64 and ARM architectures, plus some Symbian/MIDP phones and, hell, even some of the old Palm Handhelds.
Whilst Adobe are slow as fuck at porting it to new platforms, people are reverse-engineering the player part of it, so you've got Flash players such as Gnash which could theoretically be compiled on any platform.
A lot of languages started out only on one platform, on one architecture - a lot of scripting languages at least, like PHP and Python. Are they bullshit?
Plus I'd say at least 75% of people on the internet have Flash now, due to sites like Youtube.
What's the point in randomly lashing out at a language you don't even use? I've seen some neat stuff done with Flash too. Hopefully some neater shit will appear once it can run Bytecode, use hardware shaders and so on.
Meehhh, it's a little bit inefficient.
Plus I'd say at least 75% of people on the internet have Flash now, due to sites like Youtube.
The stats say that 99% of Internet users have at least Flash version 8 (or 7, I forget)
Since the forums have become so much work, I've decided to take a short vacation away from the internet to get away from it all for a while. I don't know when I'll be back. Maybe a week.
While I'm away, TheLinx, Splat and Arma will be running the site. TheLinx has taken the role of administrator for the time being and Splat and Arma will continue to be global moderators.
Anyway, see you all when I get back. If you need anything while I'm gone, TheLinx is the man you need to see.
oh man this forum business is too much I gotta go and take a vacation from all hard work I've been doing

It's more of a pseudo-vacation.
He's inside his house.
And still comes on from time to time.

it's still a fucking forum
it doesn't take that much brain power to run a forum
Really cut down on the amount of forum sections. You don't need that many.
Please do tell which are unneeded. And if you feel that they are unneeded, just don't visit them.
It's a good idea, I signed up and made a thread about python, but I agree it needs waaaay less forums, the introduction thing is stupid and pointless, off topic and other related forums are useless, this is a Programming / Computer / Technology type forum I'm ASSUMING so get rid of a lot of the useless forums so there will be more people actually posting about programming instead of spamming the introductory forum.

No. It's so others get to know each other.

Every forum is a community, and there should be a place to just chill.
Hey guys, I'm yet another member coming from FP and I just thought "Why the hell not register on that site?", as I need a few more forums to browse on a minutely basis
There's not much to say about me. I'm 14, from Hannover, Germany, and a nerd. I never do any desktop programming (I only make a few commandline scripts with PHP) and I mainly do web development and a bit of simple design (the typical edgy, Silk icon overloaded design you can find on almost every Facepuncher's site).
Offtopic: What's the image flickering over the HOT posticon?
Isn't spam or worthless. This is:
Hi, I enjoy fapping regularly.

I wonder who posted that one.
What happens when we grow old, will the forum age with us? MIDDLE AGED DEVELOPERS

If you read the thread title I did it to get rid of the message that was telling me to make a thread in that section, I did not know that I had to right some sort of discription of my "Programming Career". I thought that discription of myself was accurate.
I guess you could also say that post also conveyed my dissaproval of the introductory forum. There for, not spam sunny Jim.
Registering mature-developer.com brb
Ok?

Could of just said hi buddy boy.
Wow just let it drop, I like the forum, dislike some of the uneeded forums. That is all I'm saying, if it had less small specific forums it'd be better.
Since I've never seen a forum dedicated to teenage programming, I thought I'd make one.
Here it is!
Young Developer!
We're a very young forum, but we have a growing memberbase of teenage programmers and designers (A few Facepunchers too)
There's a strong bias toward web development right now, but we're changing our focus to the slightly more broad niche of teenage coding (all types).
We're also running a competition to win a variety of real-life prizes.
Come by sometime :)
I'd also love to hear any critique you may have.

Did you guys know about http://www.youngcoders.com ?
shhhhh
Oh god.
That theme.
The website's motto, "Design. Develop. Deploy" is almost a copy.
The original is in Wolfram Mathematica 7's website. Here is the proof:
http://www.wolfram.com/products/mathematica/index.html
So expect a lawsuit. It's not exaclty the same, but, for christ's sake, show some creativity.
This will fail.

Because everyone signing up should have a real email address he can be linked to.
