this topic has pretty much turned into c vs c++ in kernels.
I think that's a good thing. You guys always talk about programming as if it's limited to desktop applications.

my point was, that's ALL it has turned into.
my point was, that's ALL it has turned into.
No, it hasn't.
What? That's stupid! You are just transposing your own experience how your marking system works, and using that as a reason. It is a shitty-ass reason.
It just makes more sense to me, that's all.
Just saying.
EDIT: How many of you are going to be coding Kernels?

none of them, just the linux zealots and linus lovers came in and fucked the thread.

Windows uses a kernel too, by the way. If anything it's stupid attitudes like name calling that ruins threads.

oh yeah because windows is open source and we can make changes to the kernel with C. Nice try, but you're still a linux zealot.
inb4 windows isn't open source cuz it sux.

Wow you're retarded.
I don't think I saw once any discussion of linux beyond as a case study, and Linus' comments are just comments.

his comments lead to all this.
his comments lead to all this.
Well not really, there would still be discussion whether Linus said shit or not. I'm sure if C++ people wanted to make a particular point they could also find people who say things to back up their position. It has nothing to do with zealotry, simply a matter of supporting ones argument with what is widely held as a worthwhile opinion.
none of them
I've been writing code for MCUs lately. Because I'm working directly with the hardware, I guess it probably counts as firmware.
Are there really C and C++ people? I definitely use both. For different purposes, mind you, but both approximately equally.
I think there are Cathbadh, I use C++ but suck horrendously when trying to write C.
I'm too used to templates and structs with constructors to write efficient C D:
And other C++ features.
Are there really C and C++ people? I definitely use both. For different purposes, mind you, but both approximately equally.
No you don't. You use C and C With Classes. I can tell by the horrible advice you give when it comes to C++.
oh yeah because windows is open source and we can make changes to the kernel with C. Nice try, but you're still a linux zealot.

No more because if you want to get a job at MS and work on the kernel you'll use C. Nice try, but you're still an idiot who just wants to insult me because you don't have any valid arguments other than "ZOMG LINUX ZEALOT" (even though I use Windows on all my desktop machines).
Go away troll.
Are there really C and C++ people? I definitely use both. For different purposes, mind you, but both approximately equally.
Definitely. The good C coders are usually poor C++ coders and vice versa. I bet Linus would write horrible C++, and I definitely write horrible C.
C With Classes
That's what C++ is.
That's what C++ is.
oh my

Troll attempt is fail.
That's what C++ is.
A lot of things that make C++ C++ were added after the name change.
("Cfront is a compiler lololololol")

I'm not sure if I should rate Dumb or Funny.
That's what C++ is.
No, that's what C++ grew from.
I'm not sure if I should rate Dumb or Funny.
i went ahead and rated him dumb
I used bad grammar on purpose :downs:

I meant PvtCupcakes, not you :downs: :downs:.
I used bad grammar on purpose :downs:
How witty.
That's what C++ is.
another shit post by PvtMalloc()
you talk shit about C++ when you can't even use C right.
protip: when you malloc you should free.
Quick Question: Is C++ compatible with C?
If it is, I'll write C++ with some mixed code for some stuff.
I think I'll go for C++. At least the program won' t collapse if I forget to put an ampersand
