I agree that books are better but really, just because someone decides to get started with C++ using the Internet doesn't mean that they will never read a book or that their knowledge of the language will somehow be forever tainted.

Books and Internet can both be good, the internet can show videos and explain in depth and you can get in depth internet tutorials too and would be good for visual people and books would be good for people that like too read and get a better understanding by that. /end war
who the fuck says you end the war?
Some ones mature in face punch ^^^
ITT: PieClock thinks he knows C++ after reading cplusplus.com
ITT: PieClock doesn't know C++ at all, and has never visited cplusplus.com Go away you but hurt cunt and learn to read before you say anything else.
Useless user. Just thought you should shut up.
Rated agree. Oh wait, i gave the right advice in this thread. Guess i'm useless.
Rated agree. Oh wait, i gave the right advice in this thread. Guess i'm useless.
No you're saying everyone will be more comfortable learning from a book, you're wrong, shutup, get out.
No you're saying everyone will be more comfortable learning from a book, you're wrong, shutup, get out.
read first post.
read first post.
I did. You have no idea about others attitudes towards learning and cannot say he will learn more from getting a book.
Wow. I am saying that you can't possibly learn a language from internet tutorials, they don't explain as much in-depth as books can.. (3 other people have said this also). So please, you are the one who needs to get out.

By the way you're horribly close minded.
Wow. I am saying that you can't possibly learn a language from internet tutorials,
Well, no, you won't learn much about the language, but you'll know how to program things, although in a manner that will be most likely inefficient. You're probably going to be able to build working programs though. It's just that books offer a lot more info on how to actually improve your coding and do things "The right way" (at least one of them :) )
I've never, ever read a programming book in my life and I'm doing just fine.
Great example right here actually. While catdaemon is a good coder and does write pretty sweet stuff, I've helped him a fair bit with C++ on IRC with knowledge I got from just reading a lot. And I bet some reading would improve his skills a fair bit.
I've learned a fuck-ton of languages and many MANY other things from just the internet.
This. I also know C and C++ fairly well, so those languages aren't exceptions.
I've learned a fuck-ton of languages.
How long have you been coding?
I've learned a fuck-ton of languages and many MANY other things from just the internet.
Yeah, you're probably one of those guys who says, "I know C/C++/C#/Asm/Java/Python/HTML/PHP/JavaScript/Ruby/Perl" There's a difference between knowing a language, and just reading a couple tutorials.
How long have you been coding?
4 years. [editline]06:03AM[/editline]
Yeah, you're probably one of those guys who says, "I know C/C++/C#/Asm/Java/Python/HTML/PHP/JavaScript/Ruby/Perl" There's a difference between knowing a language, and just reading a couple tutorials.
Uh.. Exactly, there is a difference, and I know a fuck ton of them, like I said. You guys honestly need to stop with the assumptions.
If you're done with the basic basics (what's a string, int, short int, uint32, typedef, vector, ..), you can give FunctionX a whirl. They've got some pretty good tutorials about programming languages. C++: http://www.functionx.com/cpp/index.htm
4 years.
4 years isn't enough to learn "a fuckton" of language (let alone two, IMO), but I guess my standards might be a bit higher than yours. I'm sure you know the syntax of many languages, though. http://norvig.com/21-days.html

I wish you'd actually listen for once instead of being so elitist because you know C++. Maybe you didn't read my last reply to you. Here's a tip for when you start to program, learn to fucking read a simple reply and take it in first.

I'm actually being modest because I don't consider myself particularly good in C# and C++, and I've been programming for as long as you (4 years approx.). Like I said, my standards are just higher for what comes down to "knowing" a language. If that makes me an "assholish faggot", I'm not sure what insulting a random poster for not having the same definition of "knowing a language" makes you.
I know over 9000 languages, just ask me.
I know over 9000 languages, just ask me.
/me > you
4 years.
Now, now, do I have to link some threads from 2006/2007? If you had been programming for two years already by then, you probably wouldn't have been such a beginner at that point in time. I remember you quite well, you used to be calm and friendly :keke:
Looks like gparent ran and got his Luahelp buddies to come and troll this guy asking a simple question. Very mature...
