That's not really an excuse. It's better for new users to learn things the right way first time rather than develop bad habits or learn bad practices. And while the errors in w3schools aren't so bad, it's not a question of 'why not w3schools?' as much as 'why w3schools?' when as H4Z3Y points out, much better alternatives exist.
