Well, I'm still looking for hands ;D I tested out my Haar classifier using just my hands and ASH D's. It detected hands occasionally but obviously the lack of images meant it was very badly trained... I got a lot of noise. It thought parts of my face were my hands and so forth.
Anyways, I'm setting up a site devoted to this, which will also host the database of images (and haar classifiers) I'm using, so other academics (it's always Universities which do this stuff) can make use of it. There doesn't seem to be a database of hand imagery for Haar Classifiers yet, see.

Hey what language are you using?I really want to learn programming,a [/i]useful[i] programming, not the crap they try to teach us at school. Can you give links to tutorials?
Thanks in adv.
PS. I don't have a working camera though :| but I can model pretty well,so if a rendered hand can be useful, tell me :)

BBCode is backwards. :v:
So will this also detect people with very dark skin tones?

If enough people with dark skin tones supply photos, then yes.
That's why I turned to the internet. Huge database of different colours, shapes, sizes of hands, so the algorithm can become really robust at detecting hands.
Mah hand
