What about the people with 30kb/s internet and 5GB/month bandwidth?

For me, the video plays back sound until I move the mouse over it and off it again.

Could say the same with GIFs.
Well, facepunch is now on my NoScript block list. I live in Australia with bandwidth caps.

20mb gifs are ok, but not 20mb movies?

Try installing chrome

But I like my firefox the way it is
20mb gifs are ok, but not 20mb movies?
They're not okay. I never said they were. I've even yelled at people for having 20MB GIFs/BMPs. But with videos I at least had the choice to not have my bandwidth sucked.

Neither is ok. That's why videos were a good thing. They didn't load until you wanted them to load.
Why do you insist on everything playing automatically? What is good about that? Please make me understand.
It only makes you download something which you might not even care about viewing, lags the browser AND makes you miss the beginning of the vid.

Try moving to another country :downs:
For those with Firefox, you can disable autoplay in about:config with "media.autoplay.enabled".

That there hovering doesn't work. I wasn't even in the same tab and it started playing. Scared the fuck out of me.

Thanks, but now they don't play at all. Garry, why do you always break perfectly good stuff
Why is it so hard to just use youtube like everyone else? :/
please garry disable the autoplay, on ff it bugs me because the sound is initially enabled, and because people quoted it 3 times the sound goes off three times and i have to hover over them to turn the sound off again. Also i find it really distracting, i find nothing wrong with having to press a play button

Right click, play. (or show controls)
Vid's now autoplay. If you want to listen to the sound you need to hover over it.
The hell, I kind of freaked out when music just started playing.
Now I feel like I have to move my mouse the the edge of the screen everytime I click a link
Yay, WAYWO has background music now. Awesome.

Yeah, the same music started playing three times. My keyboard is now covered in carrot juice.

Sorry but could you revert this?
Ignoring for now the extra bandwidth used, the extra processing power taken up on low power machines and the firefox bugs (with your "go use a diff browser" 'solution');
the biggest problem is that videos are either in the middle or have finished by the time I reach them, so I have to run them backwards.
Why on earth would you want content to start before you've actually reached it? Now instead of clicking play, I have to click to bring up the controls, click to bring the playback pointer to the start of the file and click to start playing again.
For those with Firefox, you can disable autoplay in about:config with "media.autoplay.enabled".
Those with Opera: opera:config > Multimedia > Allow Autoplay (false)
I just scrolled past the last page with my mouse wheel and had TWO instances of that music playing simultaneously, one from Garry's post and another from a quote further down.
Garry, revert this nonsense please, if I want a video to play I can click it myself.
[editline]14th November 2011[/editline]
It's bad enough I have to put up with that "auto-save" feature.
..?
Carrot juice is awesome.
WAYWO: change it back edition
Something's wrong with my pathfinding.
The pink line signifies which boxes the pumpkin will travel to.
The blue line signifies the shortest path in each box the pumpkin should travel to.
So far it's working half of the time:

Then this happens:

Time to spend the rest of today trying to figure out what the hell is happening.
Dammit Garry, I was just listening to music with speakers turned up quite high, then just as my favourite part of the song was about to come up, this garbled mess started coming from my speakers from all the sounds playing at once. :suicide:
I mean jesus how do you come up with the idea to autoplay videos on a forum where multiple videos might be posted on the same page, not to mention you probably don't expect/want this to happen when you open up some thread.

Especially with people just quoting the video without removing the tags.

In his defence, they're not supposed to have audio unless you hover on them.

This had been such a nice, quiet page.
