Honestly I thought it was ridiculous that you were attacking his art when in the same post he clearly admitted he needed help with it.

No one attacked his art, they gave their opinion and suggestions. Jawalt made a post suggesting some things that would make his fire particles a lot better, he went apeshit at him for no reason.
i dunno why you guys keep going on about this :v:
in other news, the perpetrator ordered 17 kindle fires on amazon. then canceled it, ordered "Born this way", and then Amazon closed my account .... why do i feel like an FPer is behind all this :v:
Posix shared memory is annoying.
I swear I hosed my ram 2 times before learning how to destroy Posix shared memory.
Who in their right mind would design something so that you have to explicitly tell it to automatically destroy itself when it detects that it does not have any owners?
Why have GC with a non-GC API?

Because in the event of a Nuclear War against Russia we may need to start a Facepunch bunker, and leave everybody but one behind to tell us if the war is over.

"Attacked his art" uhh no.
I suggested instead of his fire being tons of orange puffs he tried to make his particles seem like actual fire.
Of course, he knows better than I do. It's not like decent looking fire isn't the kind of thing old computers would do in software or anything.
awesome, I started some WAYWO drama

Also, I didn't think anyone actually used shared memory.
Most of the time you can get away with threading, without needing entirely separate processes. If you do need separate processes, I think the typical means of moving information between them is to use either UNIX sockets, FIFO filesystem nodes ('named pipes'), or just regular pipes. I can't think of many applications that use shared memory, probably for good reason.
I made a simple c# program that picked a random IP and connected to it by HTTP.
Then threaded it. (300 threads running)
30 mins in I found this.

If you have not figured it out its a solar plant in Israel
There was not even a password or anything on it.
This stuff really boggles my mind.

I figure that if it's something I end up using frequently it will be easier for me to extend it and make it fancier if I'm using a language I'm more familiar with. Right now it also ignores .git directories and if there's a gemfile it runs bundle install automatically. I'm going to make it give me project specific .rvmrc files and do npm install if it finds a package.json soon too.

I can see the daily mail headline now.

Who knows what would ensue.

idk

I looked around. You can do some pretty nasty stuff if you wanted.
eg,
Take out inverters and shit.
basically, I Sent a few emails off to alert the people that it is open to the web.

That's quite sick. Israeli media would definitely pick up on that.
I mean who knows how many similar plants are open like that?
basically, I Sent a few emails off to alert the people that it is open to the web.
Hopefully they take it the right way. Some really misguided individuals actually believe that it's better to hide the problem than fix it.
Theyre just asking hackers to hack their powerplant.
Literally.
I really mean literally.

A little bit of progress - items now appear on your for a second when you use them, and most all things can do damage to entities if you want them to. You can also kinda see a different map in the background, which is from testing my map editor (all the default squares this time are just solid walls put there automatically :v:).
I also did some npc work but eh fuck it

Of course, you don't actually mean literally, because if that were true, they'd have to had actually, y'know, asked people to hack their website.
If you are going to use "literally" incorrectly, don't make a point of asserting that that you aren't.

It's not an issue with his art, it's that he put little to no effort into the design
I'm not trying to be a dick but I agree with Maurice, you don't need good art (Or really any art at all), to make a menu that doesn't look like ass. If you put a little bit of effort into it you can make something really nice using basic colors and no assets at all.

That's actually quite a bit better :v:
The outline around the text is kind of messed up though
Just because you don't have a pro artist doesn't mean you can't whip up some basic color theme though:

If you're interested in using the background in that image, I've uploaded a few different colors for you:

Needs more banding.
I got images working

It was easier than I expected
Yeah I forgot that Imgur JPEG rapes your uploads. Give me a second.

http://kopirat.co.cc/files/green.png
http://kopirat.co.cc/files/orange.png
Still a little bit of banding, but the point is that you don't need some great artist to make something that looks decent.
If you don't mind, could you post the code for your lighting? :)
Certainly. I personally think it's a bit awkward, but oh well;

You guys have some terrible art and design sense. I honestly don't know if it's even worth replying to people here considering the way some of you take criticism, too.
Perhaps it may just be null to some extreme extents, but I've seen a few other people "accept" comments and critique, then they make one small change which doesn't even encompass the full impact of someone's feedback.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
