finally found some time to code for myself once in a while.
this is a very very simple Win 7 mobile phone game I programmed to get into C# and the whole XNA Framework
quite happy with it. gonna submit it in a few days after some polishing and adding sounds
hopefully it gets past their submission procedure =)

PS: it's usually not as laggy as in the youtube clip, i guess the emulator doesn't like fraps

I would be more impressed if his game didn't look so damn much like Terraria. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, because I'm only trying to be realistic: he's done a lot of amazing shit here, but the game is too visually similar to Terraria.
In fact, he has it [i]easy[/i] in that if he just changed the graphics from bottom up, he could really start to have an actual commercial product here after throwing in some different gameplay.
If he's just doing this for fun, then it really doesn't matter one way or the other I guess.
Sorry in advance, because my feedback isn't exactly hobbyist-friendly, but that's just how I look at things.

That menu has mouse input, player movement, and UTF-8 text input working. Backspace works, too.
Textual input occurs when the game hasn't absorbed the corresponding virtual key for action binds. Translation to text is handled by the appropriate operating system calls.
What really made it easier is that I can do selection with a dot product rather than fiddle around with bounding boxes and such. Also, I don't have to worry as much about screen resolution since the 3D projection pretty much takes care of all the scaling issues.

The issue I meant was transforming between screen coords -> world space coords -> UI coords for mouse input. I'd consider that less easy than it would be for the 2D case.
Good to know that you don't have trouble with the 3D math, though.

He could give his tiles a gray/purple effect and say its on a new planet/space and make a space exploation game where you have to build a new city for human kind
Or, you know, you could at least be a generic indie dev that abuses the pixel-esque form. It's the beauty of realizing your laziness in the programming world, in an artistic visual representation.
