Why is every element floating?
Because I started off with another SMF design, and was making basic tweaks, many of which forced me to use float: left; to get stuff to actually display properly. Admittedly, there's probably a load of floats I no longer need, but they're not causing any harm so who cares.

You're killing IE.
Though then again, IE is a useless browser so I guess it doesn't matter if it doesn't like your site because it's definition of standards don't match the standards definition of standards. (though it does have the largest market share so it might a thought to at least attempt a half-assed job at making it work in IE)

Sounds like a nightmare to me.
In my opinion it just makes allot of things more difficult, especially later on.
Ok, i've been working on my forum for a moth now (with long breaks of weeks)
Here is a picture:

Does anyone know something to make it a little bit better. (Also, i don't have stripes anywhere :DDDDD!).
EDIT
Post count doesnt work yet.
I'd say use less gradients and make it a bit less rectangular.
ok going to add some circles :D.
Static width is much better IMO, especially for people with widescreen monitors, so you don't end up with a bunch of useless whitespace.

Designing for SMF at all is hard :P It's a bit of a mess, but it's awesome because I know the core pretty well, and now we're running a fork of it, no more official updates etc.

Damn IE! IE8 *should* work fine? I'm on mac so yeah xD
I'm redesigning most of my Lua search page. It doesn't function yet, but I'd like some feedback on the layout:

Pissing about in PHP + MySQL, making ugly databases and using it all to log my exercise!
Take a look (not that there's much to see):
http://scottsserver.gotdns.com/secret/health
I now need to learn how to query the database for useful info etc, but that's not difficult i guess...
What is difficult is making a page look nice :/
Changed the layout to match my own website: http://blynx.org/forum
Why are everyone making forums? :P
I could never got the columns to work right, it was all too confusing.

Nice, but maybe make it not use the entire screen width.

wow, looks nice

Nice, except the logo is too big :D
Make the grey titles a little darker and it will be a+
Nice, but maybe make it not use the entire screen width.
Should I center everything in about 50% of the page?
Do not make the gray any darker. Please. I think it looks fine to be honest. The blue in the section titles is a bit.. bright. But other than that I like it.
Should I center everything in about 50% of the page?
Give it a try but make sure you set a minimum width.
Planning what could be a decent browser-based website designer, not template based, full layouts created with decent CSS and HTML too.
Please go into more detail Political.

Well, I'm not sure how possible it will be to actually "draw" the design directly by dragging boxes and so on. But anyway, I'm basically splitting web pages up into horizontal "blocks" For example, facepunch would be one block for the header, with a right floating block for the "Logged in as", and a left floating logo with some more left floating text (other stuff) which would stick onto the logo, as it were. Then there's another "block" which would be the content.
But my current plan is a simple layout editor, you do the details later. You simply specify with width of blocks you want and it *should* work. It's hard to explain really.
I mean obviously the code won't be perfect, but it should be a damn lot better than the current editors, and support full fluid, fixed, any height layouts, without restricting users to customizing templates.

Update: looks like this might not be possible, my javascript isn't (yet) up to it, and I've got other ideas anyway :P
My main idea is to have people able to signup for a small monthly fee, and literally all they do is pick a deisgn, or make one, and add pages, blog, have a shop, a forum, basically everything, but all in one wrapper which means joe bloggs can do it easy as pie. Think squarespace.com but can do more.
Editor still might happen though, not sure :V, as a web-designer such editors are actually bad for business!
What's up with people yabbing about design now?

Now I got LOD working on my planet, may need some tweaking. But i'm going to implement some other stuff first, like normals and textures. :D
Awesome, I like that kind of stuff
there is this big ridge over the entire side tough, but you probably already noticed that :v:
