New game idea, you walk around with a torch. You have to find batteries to keep your torch at full brightness. As your torch runs our of power the brightness of your torch will decrease. In the game right now; -Tile engine for drawing the map -Torch power battery bar thing -Working collision (took my ages to get it perfect but i think its nearly there)
A torch that runs on batteries. Makes sense.
A torch that runs on batteries. Makes sense.
It does make sense. lolwut?
A torch that runs on batteries. Makes sense.
It does if your vocabulary isn't limited to preschool level.
It does if your vocabulary isn't limited to preschool level.
I'm going to go grab my torch and take my mighty metal steed to the shoppe of convenience. I shall need thy torch as it is dark and the cement is crackethed..
A torch that runs on batteries. Makes sense.
Torch is what non-Americans call a flashlight. Also, is your avatar a hand-drawn version of my avatar?
Torch is what non-Americans call a flashlight. Also, is your avatar a hand-drawn version of my avatar?
Yes. Me and a friend were chatting on MSN and I got extremely bored and looked over at my open Firefox window and noticed I was currently browsing What Are You Working On? V3. I saw one of your posts and decided to draw your avatar in MSN's drawing thing.
Heh, alrighty.
Torch is what non-Americans call a flashlight. Also, is your avatar a hand-drawn version of my avatar?
We call them flashlights in Canada too :colbert:
Torch is what non-Americans call a flashlight. Also, is your avatar a hand-drawn version of my avatar?
Flashlight doesn't make sense, since they don't exactly flash.
Flashlight doesn't make sense, since they don't exactly flash.
I think they didn't have very long battery life so people would flash them on then off to light the way temporarily without draining the battery. I'm pretty sure that's the story behind their name.
We call them flashlights in Canada too :colbert:
I though Canada was part of the US :v:
Flashlight doesn't make sense, since they don't exactly flash.
Actually lightbulbs flicker at such a fast pace it appears to be a constant stream of light. So flashlight is actually a very relevant term.
I like torch tho.
Thread needs more GWEN. :v:
Stairs are not impossible sir. You just need to do what they do in 3D games: make them a slope collision wise so instead of series of _| you have one large slant sort of like /
If you had read the thread you would know that my game is pixel sized, the character is 1x3 pixels. Anyway I realized, if I am making a mask every frame from the screen, why don't I just make the collision use the screen directly?
I though Canada was part of the US :v: Actually lightbulbs flicker at such a fast pace it appears to be a constant stream of light. So flashlight is actually a very relevant term.
Yeah, lightbulbs in an AC circuit. Flashlights generally work with battery direct current. In my opinion, 'torch' doesn't really make sense. At least I've thinked that 'torch' means a hand-held light source that uses some flammable substance and I can't really "torch a house" with a flashlight can I?
holy shit who cares about flashlights/torches/who calls them what. get on topic
Do you guys ever find yourself saying "I'll just do some coding practice" and get completely lost in what you are doing? I spent 3 hours yesterday coding several classes that could interface together to make a fully working house. I was about to code a particle system and make the house graphical but it was food time. Would of been a good project to finish. Actually, I am going to code a human class and make a text simulation with it, and make it output the whole story to the text file because I am bored and am delaying rewriting ~100 lines of code.
holy shit who cares about flashlights/torches/who calls them what. get on topic
I'm just going to pop in here and say that Sweden has the best word for them: "Ficklampa" It translates to "Pocket lamp" And while I'm at it I'm going to add that I have begun writing a game in C# and have finished incorporating C# as a in-game scripting language for it. I do have some problems with unloading the scripts once I've loaded them. If anyone here knows how to dynamically unload assemblies then I would be grateful for a little help.
You clearly do, every day you're working on a new project or something :v:
:v: Feels like that, but I just get bored / distracted. I will finish something one day. Anyway I am only distracting myself till lunchtime. Longest time anyone has lived yet is 101 years. Now just to add food :D

We call it 'zaklamp' which also translates to pocket lamp. I'm just trying to get a feel for the C++ language and making some stuff for OSW.
I need two base class names for GUI objects and World objects.. Fuck, CGUIObject and CWorldObject!
Widget, maybe?
baseGUIObject, baseWorld. How I name my base objects. If you think that is dumb, please explain why?

Looks good except the steering, looks like the visual model steers a lot more than the physical representation...
