Nice! I really like the atmosphere of that game. Not to be picky, but I thought something was wrong with the vehicle, until I noticed that there's no steering, it seems to be rather gliding, no big deal I guess.
Looks good except the steering, looks like the visual model steers a lot more than the physical representation...
Yeah, that's the look we are going for, similar to diddy kong racing's drifting, where turning is exaggerated. But this will all be tweaked later.
Nice! I really like the atmosphere of that game.
Looks good except the steering, looks like the visual model steers a lot more than the physical representation...
I actually like how the steering looks. Fits with the cartoony atmosphere. Have you considered cel-shading the models? I think it might work well with your game.
I think it looks great apart from the view being slightly too low to the ground.
I like it. my advice is to not have the turn snap so suddenly back into going forward. you should have it smoothly go into and out of the turn, this way it feels less rigid and mechanical and there is more to think about while driving, plus it looks bad right now. low camera angles are fun, they're barely ever used so I say go for it. Another thing is that it's depressing to see the car hug the ground especially because the ground is not smooth.
If you sort out the camera clipping the ground and add a few tweaks (wheels rotating, coming off the ground) you'll have a very fun game.
Thanks guys!
I actually like how the steering looks. Fits with the cartoony atmosphere. Have you considered cel-shading the models?
You cunt Anyway, video as promised:
That steering reminds me of the original mario kart. Damn that game pissed me off until I figured out how the turning worked.
I hate cel-shading with a passion, I just think it looks terrible. I've never seen cel-shading I liked.
Have you considered possibly a borderlands style of shading?
Have you considered possibly a borderlands style of shading?
Like this? Does anyone serious think that looks nice?
looks like ass imo

I absolutely love Borderlands graphics.
You cunt Anyway, video as promised:
nice use of the Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing physics engine, and will you be able to change the camera angle? chase cam is the absolute worst for driving games
I fucking love Borderlands graphics, hand draw textures are sexy. Although the unreal engine looks kinda shit in places, especially in Borderlands (light above save points etc)
You cunt Anyway, video as promised:
I think you got the wrong idea when someone said "bumper cam".

Ugh. I'm up to the stage where I'm prepping to get to the stage to render things on the screen. Have a hardcoded cube.

http://i36.tinypic.com/157ou8.jpg
Have a softcoded box :downs: Kidding. I should pick up Java again. I still never found out Java 2D. I don't fully understand the concept of using Java 2D API in games. And sadly, there aren't any good articles out there.
Like this? IMO that looks terrible shane. Anyway, been working on it. Added suspension, wheels now turn when steering and the camera no longer collides with the terrain (will you guys chill the fuck out about the camera now?!??!). Sorry for the low quality shitty video, I looks nicer running at 60fps Also lol: I uploaded the video, 1 minute later I get an email saying that it's using some copyright material. Youtube is getting smarter :tinfoil: However, they don't say which song I'm using so they could be bluffing. Sucks if you're german (Jallen)
I read about pathfinding on wikipedia and got the idea for waypoints, but I was puzzling over how to direct an AI locally. Then I thought of zones. (The red dots are waypoints and the green boxes are zones) So if an entity is in the same zone as the target, it will be directed based on the coordinates of the target, otherwise it will be directed from waypoint to waypoint. Just felt like sharing

It gets fun when you have to guess random ways so you can have layers.
Honest there isn't much to java 2D once you learned to display an image you basically learned enough to make a game. It gets fun when you have to guess random ways so you can have layers.
But when fun comes into play it means more work (in a sense..). It's easy for you to say that because you're experienced with Java and on your way with networking. I'm an 8th grader who has no experience in any kind of programming other than web design.
Wonderful work r4nk.. looks much better now. Cel-shading isn't that bad in my book though, it has its uses; I admit I hate it when it gets overused in games for no particular reason (a la Prince of Persia), but it could fit with the cartoon-ish look you're going for. (or that's what I concluded based on the look of your model) On a side note, that song is damn addicting.. I can't stop listening.. =/ I never listen to anything other than trance, but for some reason I like this one; never thought I'd listen to a good song with Jack Black involved, oh well.

Maybe you are an undiscovered metal head \m/ Here's the test:
Haha, Iron Maiden, I was listening to that when I was like... 14 maybe.. I still like the oldies, but I gave up on this generation (I think :emo:'s took over). I guess I'm just into any kind of music with a power trip to it; rock certainly fits (or used to fit) the criteria, but right now I'm a trance junkie at heart.
