Do levels have heightmap support in UE3? Like for a large outdoor area could you have the ground be generated from a heightmap, and then place models onto that?

We're talking about the engine overall, and scripting is very important in UE3's mapping apparently.

I've never actually used a generated heightmap, as UED has a built in terrain editor that writes out to a predetermined file in the map package. So yes it does support heightmaps, and I'm unsure as to whether you can import a generated heightmap from another program, as I've never had to do it myself.

It's not bullshit. You should only write hand-written assembly after some serious profiling, because in most cases your hand-written section isn't going to make a difference and may even be slower than the code your compiler generates.

Damn, I thought the UE3 post was a rickroll when I first started reading, then I was really taken by surprise when I found out that it's real.
Smart move from Epic I guess; I like how they let you have the first 5000$ with no royalties, my respect for them just got a hefty boost.

I saw that a while ago, I swear I had a piezo around here though I wasn't able to find it.
As for learning VB 2008 Express, it seems to be coming along OK, I got up to if/else and messed around, creating some small programs that consisted of "Guess the password and a message box pops up" which would crash when I inputted a letter. Progress!
