hi turbulence
XCode is free, publishing your app to the app store is what costs
XCode is free, the platform it runs on is not. If you don't own a Mac, it's quite expensive. Also, this is the exact reason I traded my iPhone 3G for a HTC Hero 2 days ago. Haven't regretted it at all yet.
You traded your iphone because macs cost money?
If you don't own a Mac, it's quite expensive. Also, this is the exact reason I traded my iPhone 3G for a HTC Hero 2 days ago.
Epic Smoothness
I was going to make an OpenGL library or whatever for the G15 LCD screen, so you could make sweet particle effects, videos and shit in opengl and display them on the screen. Unfortunately I compiled the SDK examples and they seem to do nothing at all for me. I guess that idea is out the window then.
You traded your iphone because macs cost money?
No, he traded his iPhone because it requires a Mac to dev for, and they're extremely overpriced. Plus Android kicks major iPhone ass.
That's like selling your car because garages cost too much to operate
That's like selling your car because garages cost too much to operate
You don't require a garage to tinker with your car.
That's like selling your car because garages cost too much to operate
Not really, it makes perfect sense if he wanted to start mobile development, without you know, spending thousands of dollars. And you don't need 2 phones.
That's like selling your car because garages cost too much to operate
No it's like selling your car because it needs a special wrench to tinker with ANYTHING that costs thousands of dollars. Oh, and the car might not accept your tinker, you never know.
You don't require a garage to tinker with your car.
But you need something to shelter your car and other useless junk you will never use in your life.
I'm sure you can get a mac for less than $500. You don't have to get a macbook air to make iphone games right?
But then you need a garage to store your mac in wait what
I'm sure you can get a mac for less than $500. You don't have to get a macbook air to make iphone games right?
No but I guess most people don't want to fork out for a Mac just to do development on it, so they get more expensive ones.
I'm sure you can get a mac for less than $500. You don't have to get a macbook air to make iphone games right?
Ahem. You might have a steady income coming from gmod, I'm a high schooler with practically no income. I can afford Eclipse, but I can't afford a Mac. It's not the only reason though, I also would like my app to go on some global market, which I don't see a big chance for on the App Store.
I'm sure you can get a mac for less than $500. You don't have to get a macbook air to make iphone games right?
Sure, I'm going to go out and buy an overpriced computer that uses a cpu architecture that's not even used in modern computers for a couple hundred gs. Makes sense.
Sure, I'm going to go out and buy an overpriced computer that uses a cpu architecture that's not even used in modern computers for a couple hundred gs. Makes sense.
Welcome to 2006. All Macs use Intel CPUs now.
Yeah you can afford an iPhone and want to develop for it but you can't afford a mac?
Yeah you can afford an iPhone and want to develop for it but you can't afford a mac?
I can afford a phone plan that includes the iPhone for free, yes. I don't know of such a plan with a Mac in the Netherlands.
Yeah you can afford an iPhone and want to develop for it but you can't afford a mac?
Yes that's correct. Is it so hard to believe?
Welcome to 2006. All Macs use Intel CPUs now.
I was talking about as Garry said, going out and buying an older less expensive Mac. [editline]12:02PM[/editline]
Yeah you can afford an iPhone and want to develop for it but you can't afford a mac?
There are deals in certain locales making the iPhone cheaper.
Yeah you can afford an iPhone and want to develop for it but you can't afford a mac?
There's a difference between a £30/35 a month contract and having to pay £1,000 or so for an overpriced smug machine. and heh, we're back to arguing about this shit again.
I don't understand why everyone jizzes so much over what platform people use for everyday computing. People will use what they are happy and comfortable with, and it isn't up to you to tell them how right or wrong they are, its their choice as the user. If you actually use Windows 7 or Mac OS X Snow Leopard regularly, there isn't a lot to pick between them. I agree completely, Mac OS X isn't a gaming platform but that said there isn't exactly a shortage of Mac games: http://www.play.com/Games/PC/3-/4047/2-/Promo.html?dpr=4047

If my machine was a Mac I wouldn't care. The problem is, I don't have a Mac, so I would need to buy an OS for at least € 500,- just to develop an app for the iPhone. For Android, I can make an app on any platform. It's customer binding on Apple's part, and while it works for them, it definitely doesn't for me.
Sure, I'm going to go out and buy an overpriced computer that uses a cpu architecture that's not even used in modern computers for a couple hundred gs. Makes sense.
The Wii, and Xbox 360 use the PPC Architecture.
Some kind of tooltip system When you add a tip, it goes into slot one and pushes the rest down. They don't fade out yet. [cpp] tooltipMgr.Add( "string", sf::Color( 255,255,255,255 ) ); [/cpp] Only has string and colour args atm.
you should put the colour first and then the string later with args like printf.
you should put the colour first and then the string later with args like printf.
That's not very safe. If you want args you should use something like boost::format
