Ah, so Ubuntu uses Unity? or is that the netbook edition?

Ubuntu has started using Unity on their desktop version since 11.04 I believe. The netbook and desktop versions have been merged.

Awful decision, the whole concept of a dock is flawed.

For power users, yeah. Ubuntu is trying way to hard to comply to a consumer audience that's non existent in the linux world.

It's nice to see them trying, it really is, but I suppose a power user would just swap out the entire window manager.

No reason in using Ubuntu then.

We're using it on the computers on in the office I work at to minimize cost and the fact that it's been opened up to less tech-savy people is great. None of the sales staff have any issues using it and they are all pretty much completely computer illiterate. Just because you don't see the benefits doesn't mean they aren't there. There's already enough linux distros geared towards power users lol...

They even hid the terminal and you can't open it without pressing ctrl+alt+t, had me looking for a solution for quite a long time to find it. I think the best way would be going for a good compromise, not trying to make dumbasses happy by stepping on power users' feet.

It also uses gnome rather than unity.

Oh ok it's because I was still using version 4.0.2, support has been added in version 4.1.4.

Ubuntu is supposed to "make dumbasses happy", I've installed it on my mother's laptop, and even though she's generally computer illiterate, she's had zero issues with it thus far. On the other hand, I also have ubuntu installed on one of my desktops, and as a "power user", I've tweaked it to my own liking without a whole lot of extra work.

I'm actually preparing to format my personal laptop right now, and I think I'm going to go with ubuntu alongside w7.

Managed to get hardware acceleration.
Now we're speaking.

Oh, but when you're dealing with some kinds of people, if it's there, they'll manage to fuck with it. Reminds me of this comic:

Those are the ones who can't keep their hands in their pockets and have no idea what the hell they're doing, they kind of deserve it.
The thing that bothers me the most with Linux distros is they're all so fucking unappealing. It's like no one besides the people working on Ubuntu have a sense of design and usability.
Ubuntu is loaded full of shit, though. You can never have your Linux cake and eat it, too, it seems.
No they don't.

Programmers are, traditionally, exceptionally bad artists.
I only really care for Ubuntu and it's derivatives and Debian. Pretty much everything else is "why use it?"-status to me.
Ubuntu is attractive, comes with great driver support out of the box, and many installations and packages are oriented towards it, simply because it's more mainstream than other distros, and is based on Debian.
A greater majority of distros are branched from Debian, so why bother using anything else? I can't think of any individual distro which provides something revolutionary over Debian, or it's multitude of derived distros.
I'm not exactly a Linux master or whatever, so I'm sure someone here can put me to shame, but that's how I see it.
Programmers are, traditionally, exceptionally bad artists.
Even though web developers are generally an exception to that rule.
Terabytes that background makes me moist, but my mint linux distro didn't come with it, even though it has Gnome 3.

Yep, I did.
I'm thinking that I want to add a rating system, just a
How can I make sure that you can only rate once? Should I add another column per post and have an array of IPs or what?
Honestly, I believe that if they fixed the little quirks in Ubuntu it could easily become a mainstream OS and surpass the 500 million users milestone Canoical set.
