I like it, personally
To be fair I have designed worse! :P
no one is trying to break the website :v:
Is it possible to run a command on a specific service/running application via PHP? I know about system() and exec(), but I'm unsure of any way to just use the system command line to execute commands on a console application.
I'm pretty sure that's what those commands do.
Those commands are executed on the system command line, but I don't know of any way to specify which running process/application the command should execute on
I'm certain I am going to get torn apart for this, but I'm feeling too accomplished to not care. I started learning Javascript and jQuery seven hours ago. As of 25 minutes ago, I finished this roll-over code, completely from scratch. Uses absolutely no custom content, no prefabs or anything; only core code included in jQuery and Javascript. The only things I looked up, beyond what the tutorial on w3schools.com provides, were how to get an element's position and dimensions, and how to make a panel/div overlay another. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8416055/Web/FunFun/index.html Ignore the "Press me" button and the line for debug. Those were things I used for testing earlier, and I haven't removed them yet for whatever reason. Also note that only the first two items have submenus currently. Note that it's currently broken in Internet Explorer. I don't know how Safari likes it, but I've asked a few people, and it seems to work fine with Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. It took me a while to get the roll-over to not spazz out when you had a seizure and rolled over the elements like batshit crazy (the sub-menu would go in and out rapidly for every single time you rolled over a menu :v:) It kind of sticks at the moment if you go a bit fast, in that it won't open a sub-menu while a sub-menu is opening or closing (seeing as that's how it's currently written to behave). I'll probably make it store the submenu-to-open whenever you roll over, so if its still doing an animation, it'll wait till its done, close the sub-menu if necessary, then open said submenu-to-open. Don't know what to do about the Internet Explorer thing. Criticism is welcome, and I'm certain I'll get torn apart for doing a million things wrong, but I'm just happy I got it to work, seven hours after I cracked open my very first Javascript tutorial. I'm also happy that I made it painless to add new sub-menus. The extent of the Javascript/jQuery side is this:
// Photoshop $("#main_photoshop").mouseover(function(){ NavBar_DoMouseOver("photoshop"); }) $("#secondary_photoshop").mouseleave(function(){ NavBar_DoMouseLeave("photoshop"); })
and the HTML is just a matter of putting the list into a div with a unique ID. [editline]Fish[/editline] I feel like such a stranger here, because I never do web design. I mean, I only learned CSS two weeks ago, in an intro to web design class. :v:
-boring nerd shit-
It's a bit slow and sometimes it just doesn't close, but that's awesome for your first Javascript project :D
HTML5 video controls now showing up properly in email, but the play and pause buttons only work in Opera. One step forwards, two steps back.
I'm working on this website to promote a school occupation in the town where I study (Gorizia). It's currently a W.I.P but I'm planning to add just a footer for the design credits and fix the color of the gradient. I don't think I'll add any kind of menu because it's not necessary. Just some basic articles and if the thing gets bigger, maybe a sidebar to pick older articles. Rock, Paper, Shotgun has the best 503 page ever.
I remember when I was younger and didn't know about computers/webdev, I got the YouTube 503 error about the "highly trained monkeys" and legitimately wondered if it was real or not

Just thought anyone who uses github might find this useful: http://githubissues.heroku.com/
This: www.deerhavenlakelodge.com Will soon be this: [editline]4th November 2011[/editline] Whoops I forgot to unhide the subtle camo texture on the first content box
that is sexy
As good as that design is, I still feel very bad for the deer. Also, the small font size and sans-serif font on the buttons don't really convince me. The button labels are also aligned to the left, if I were you I'd center them.
The navigation links don't stand out enough IMO. A lot of people would struggle to see them.

They're intended to be fairly secondary, the focus is supposed to be on the three main content boxes and their CTAs. We're trying to encourage people to explore what the lodge has to offer and to funnel them towards the booking page. Those three content boxes are essentially navigation themselves. We'll be doing a lot of analytics on it so if things aren't performing the way they should be I'll definitely play with the navigation more. And I don't like the fade either, but they didn't have any imagery that fit well enough to really fix that :/
The red color on the buttons discourages visitors to click them. I understand that you want them to book but red is too negative, at least in my opinion.
The red color on the buttons discourages visitors to click them. I understand that you want them to book but red is too negative, at least in my opinion.
Yes and no. What they do well is immediately make you want to click the green button, which I guess is the intended effect.
so you're still making shitty designs i see kmartsqrl
You'll get no where with an attitude like that, sonny.
so you're still making shitty designs i see kmartsqrl
Grow up, you little twat.
Yes and no. What they do well is immediately make you want to click the green button, which I guess is the intended effect.
But with yellow(looks good in my head) buttons, they're still more likely to click the green button without the negative effect of the red.
My final version: [t]http://puu.sh/86W1[/t] EDIT: wow that's my task bar. http://toaster468.com/temp/
But with yellow(looks good in my head) buttons, they're still more likely to click the green button without the negative effect of the red.
You're right, but then it might lower click throughs to the most important CTA. It's worth doing split tests with stuff like this.

Should I remove it? I'm not bothered by it.
