Why are you wandering, get back to your chair.
heh, i meant wonder :v:
http://jung3o.github.com/ What have i done. [editline]11th November 2011[/editline] my laptop lags on ubuntu :v: I wonder. WHY
Ubuntu was utterly awful to use on my laptop. windows 8 dev preview is like lightening, it's great!
That's not my original idea but still a very clever suggestion. Are the syntaxes compatible?
oh, lol. Well, the points are points so those can be copied over, it might require a little reformat but that can be automated. The syntax is probably not compatible though.
I am not going to touch windows 8 ever, unless they get rid of the metro shit [editline]12th November 2011[/editline] It's like an OS for dumb people
I thought you can disable metro. I agree metro is terrible.
I am not going to touch windows 8 ever, unless they get rid of the metro shit [editline]12th November 2011[/editline] It's like an OS for dumb people
Metro is a UI framework, and it looks beautiful (Metrotwit anyone); the biggest issue windows is facing when compared to OSX is that OSX actually has a UI standard, which allows people to make pretty, consistent applications. On windows no such standards exist (I think the most recent one is from the XP days) and as a result there's inconsistencies everywhere. Metro is Microsoft trying their damn well best to fix the issue, and I'm all for it.
I am not going to touch windows 8 ever, unless they get rid of the metro shit [editline]12th November 2011[/editline] It's like an OS for dumb people
News flash: People in general are painfully dumb - but that's not the point. Windows out of the box is aimed at the average user - office workers, school kids, you name it - and from the previews I've seen, 8 is doing a pretty good job of catering to those user's needs. The same thing goes here as what we talked previously regarding Ubuntu: make it easy to get started with for average users, and as a "power-user" I'll take care of making it fit my personal tastes and needs.
I am not going to touch windows 8 ever, unless they get rid of the metro shit
It takes a little getting used too, it really isn't that bad!
It's like an OS for dumb people
You mean OSX, right?
You mean OSX, right?
Just what we need, more hate for Mac OS.
Just what we need, more hate for Mac OS.
Just what we need, more hate for a dev preview which is almost no indication of the final version.
I am not going to touch windows 8 ever, unless they get rid of the metro shit [editline]12th November 2011[/editline] It's like an OS for dumb people
You are using the most dumbed down version of linux aimed at the masses out there. That's aimed a less technologically able audience than a developer preview of Windows 8.
I'll tell you what we don't need: another pointless shit fest that adds nothing of value to this discussion nor this thread.
Agreed, stop.
Well, I've noticed that I posted in a wrong thread by accident. So here, posted in the right section: Well, thanks to Jelly for giving me the help to redirect me on a free currency rate system that I'm almost finished with my strange project. Just need to make a big redesign on form of the page and the display itself.
I'm still for the opinion that it looks like an ugly mess. I guess it's a matter of tastes.
Metro has its purposes and uses. I own a Windows Phone 7 and it is my favourite mobile OS of all the mobile OSes I have used (including iOS). It may not be as matured and is missing some features, but the Metro UI totally works for mobile phones, it simplifies the process of pretty much everything you use a phone to do, and does it elegantly and without any unnecessary distractions. I'm also of the opinion that Metro UI is very beautiful. Whatever your stance on the aesthetics in terms of taste, the underlying design decisions the Windows Phone team made with Metro are very well executed. Having used Windows 8 however, I cannot say the same there. They're definitely trying to shoe-horn a touch based interface into an operating system used by a wide variety of people, and I certainly don't buy the 'it makes things simpler' line either. Whilst Windows Phone shakes things up, it does so intuitively. Metro on Windows 8 sort of contradicts what the everyday person has come to associate with how Windows works and for no real benefit. tl;dr: Metro used right = Brilliant Metro shoe-horned into a desktop OS and trying to bridge the gap across very different devices and user experiences = Flawed and terrible. [editline].[/editline] I'm also slightly bias because they killed off this simply amazing concept that every designed ever would love for a horrible mish mash of classic Windows + Metro Windows. Seriously, they killed of a mobile device which in no way tries to be a desktop operating system (Windows) or a media consumption device and a media consumption device only (iPad) for a device which actually has a unique usage when you're out and about, for a device which tries to be everything and does nothing new or original. I am the sads :(
this thread is always relevant to the title
I'd rather have general discussion then no one posting at all.
I'm working on an OCR application for mathematical formulas and I've written a web application to train it with new images. [t]http://puu.sh/8wUt[/t] You submit an image of a mathematical expression, it extracts the symbols from it and asks you what character each symbol is. At the same time it give suggestions using the references it already has available, a lot like What The Font. For example: Uploading: Binarized version [t]http://puu.sh/8wUB[/t] Recognition and correction [t]http://puu.sh/8wUE[/t] It would help me a lot if you guys could submit a few images if you have some spare time. Just take a picture of your homework or something, crop it with Photoshop and upload it . It needs to recognize as many notations and fonts as possible. You can play around with it here.
Not really a site, but currently creating a facebook site which I may use to offer services, such as designs or video editing. Just designed the logo, aimed for something simple, yet nice and think I got it quite good. [t]http://i.imgur.com/0Yeke.png[/t] If anyone is unsure, it stands for "different", the actual idea was dyfrend media, but I figured just dyfrnd looks the best. Now I can't decide between DYFRND or dyfrnd.
Look what arrived in the mail today! [thumb]http://puu.sh/8wWH[/thumb]

Having to drag the pages of a home screen with my mouse, or having to use it like it was a touch device in general is not. Such a thing would not be possible on a proprietary OS like Windows 8.
Such a thing would not be possible on a proprietary OS like Windows 8.
Apart from the options microsoft included to completely ditch the metro UI. As previously stated, the Dev preview is the tablet and desktop versions of the OS smashed together to give a preview of everything. The final build will NOT have most of that tablet optimized crap in it.
Apart from the options microsoft included to completely ditch the metro UI.
Still, you can either choose to have it or not, not choose what you'd like to have.
And Linux is the only other OS which allows you to make that kind of fine customization. Every other OS is crap compared to it.
And Linux is the only other OS which allows you to make that kind of fine customization. Every other OS is crap compared to it.
Again, what are we arguing over?
No idea.
Lately I've felt like shit and had no creativeness flow, I feel depressed and I'm unable to concentrate So anyway I leave you with this; Piece of shit work. I'm going to get drunk, see you all later.
I think your problem is content. You can't design without content.
