Try fixing the menu up a bit, for e.g. Add a bit of a bevel effect on the menu navigation, add a 1px in height white border below the navigation.

A little real estate site i'm working on:

I wanted to redesign the site I use to upload some of my occasional projects, so last night I started to do that. I haven't done much with the "radio" page of my site other than to scrape my stream's information, and I need to re-do the projects page to look a little nicer.

Reminds me of the Arch Linux color scheme. I like it.
How's this then?

You know a grid background behind the map would make it look way better.

Dude what. Kmartsqrl has posted a lot better designs than that in this thread, at least in my opinion. And the general programming WAYWO thread has a lot of great posts.
Nevertheless i'm glad you like the general layout.

but there is literally nothing wrong with it. there isn't really much but that's why it's so good omg. you have everything perfect, the colors, the spacing, the font. it's all exactly how it should be.
There's some good music on it too.
Phantom?

I was planning on having a sidebar inside of the content area but that's looking very unlikely considering the amount of space of I've got to play around with now I have navigation sidebar. gahh
I think those diagonal cuts need to be smaller. They're drawing too much attention right now. My eye is instantly jumping to them instead of the content.

As much as I know what you're saying, that's kind of the point. They're pretty much integrated now.
I might make a non-diagonal version as well because I must admit not everybody is keen on them.
I think the main reason they pull such heavy attention is because there aren't really any other lines at that angle on the whole page. It makes them feel a little out of place and like they are there just for the sake of being there. Maybe carry the diagonal line thing through to other parts of the design too?

I made a quick modification of yours, not sure if it's any better but I needed something to do for about 5 minutes.

Your site is looking good man!
So I've been working hard on a cloud-based voicemail app for the past few days, and its gotten to the point where it's very functional! Hooray!
So right now I'm looking for people in the US or the UK who are interested in trying it out in a kinda private alpha/beta/whatever-its-called-these-days and reporting back to me with their thoughts of what they like about it, what could be improved, feature requests, etc etc.
Here's a few lovely screenshots:

(and yes, those a real phone numbers and calls in those screenshots up there!)
If you're interested in trying it out PM me or email me or whatever and I'll hook you up with an account. The reason I'm not flinging registration wide open is that I want to get a few happy users working with it first.
So yeah, that's what I've been working on!
[editline]17th November 2011[/editline]
Also, my number is (888) 859-0049... call me!
Looks pretty slick. Some of the UI needs brushing up, that's expected though considering you've only spent a few days on it. "Message Length" being on two lines bugs me. For curiosity sake, what is it written in? ASP.NET or Ruby presumably.

Yeah, I guess that's what you get when you try to cram too much information into a 900px wide table!

rails
No reason you couldn't bump it up a notch to 960/978.
Not my site, but the parallax effect is pretty awesome.

Before when I was stumped

30 minutes later after placing random things all over trying to make something that looks decent I ended with this.

It is currently a bit empty for me, anyone have any suggestions?
Reposted on this page and changed my post from last page, people who always post on the last ones of the page never actually get any comments or criticism =\

I'm not to sure how small to make the text, at the moment it's 14px. The input boxes are just the default that are given after I add the reset stylesheet. I'll work on styling them later.

Keep them in line with the width of the navbar elements at the top.
It looks wierd when they scale to the width of the page like that.
[editline]17th November 2011[/editline]
As long as everything is centered and consistent it's a really nice design.

Woohoo, thanks! Most of the elements don't protrude to the purpose of the site and I think it's pretty self explanatory that they're viewing the dashboard and/or sidebar.

I kind of scrapped the buttons in there without thinking about it. I moved them to the place where it says "Footer here" and it looks great. Thanks!
Would you not prefer using a horizontal menu underneath the main navbar instead of a sidebar?
It would be compact and keep it looking clean.
