Alternately, the login form on the frontpage is just a bunch of images and a text field. The images would all be all from the same movie, rotated every month, and the password would be a memorable quote from that movie (ie, pictures of Terminator, 'I'll be back', pictures of Inception, 'We need to go deeper' etc). Once you're in you can register and receive the URL of the actual login page to login with your email and password. Thus it's possible to get in if you solve that simple riddle. Perhaps more advanced riddles and even ARGs could be set up, and for solving each monthly puzzle, users could earn bonuses to differentiate themselves from the unwashed rabble who will inevitably get in - things like changing the colors of their names and posts, changing their avatar, access to signatures, file upload space, stuff like that? It'd be a bit of work to keep running it but kind of fun too if riddles are your thing. Ironically, they aren't mine. Or if you don't solve the monthly riddle for three months straight your account is suspended until you pay $5. Once you're in, you stay in or get out. :v:
bit harsh but i love the idea, i'd do it if i could think of enough stuff for it
Somebody needs to make a "Fight Club" social network. The URL for it will be something strange and weird to throw people off. When you get to the homepage it will just be a login form on an ugly ass page. Once you login you'll be greeted with a sleek looking website that's invite only. You can only invite one person every month and there's a cap of 1,000 users or some shit. Make it $20.12 a year for membership once you're invited (then $20.13 etc). If you're found publicly talking about the website or posting screens from it you're banned for life. It's basically an ultra-secret community of people who talk about how awesome they are. Shit would be super popular with all kinds of conspiracy theories. People would leak screens and then get banned shortly after. People would know it existed but no one would know how to join.
as cool as it sounds that shit wouldn't work [editline]12th December 2011[/editline] but i've always been interesting in making an arg fuck yeah
I hoped you were gone forever
i've still been posting, and god it was a joke.

CSS menu and fullpage background
Looks nice, photo gives it a really nice atmosphere. If you are going to use images that's smaller then the users browser ( only when it's a fair bit smaller ) you could try apply a pattern of it, that way it doesn't seem as if the images is actually being stretched. for e.g. this is a site I made a while ago to sell on the envato marketplace, then ended up selling to an individual client: http://beztdesigns.com/full/ Pattern I recommend: http://beztdesigns.com/full/style/images/patterns/bg_3.png

Does this look like another of the "I'll pay you ten bucks make me a site" guys to you? What should I do?

$25/hour?
I don't work on an hourly bases, I just give them a full quote on how much the end project will cost.

You need a legitimate group comprised of really fantastic people who make the community solid, and are able to come up with schemes that really make the community shine, too. This implies that your community is also legitimately good in the first place. You'd have to think of it as some sort of modern and attractive Something Awful. Instead of Goons, you'd have something else in name, but the community would still provide the same function. It would be a group of talented and only talented people (due to the exclusivity) that did things to attract the attention of outsiders, causing interest and making people want to be one of them, or be in their little club. It's not about the site itself, anyone can make an attractive site, and you better just forget about monetizing it because that's going to end up bullshit. It's about making a clever community - putting people together that know how to grab other people's attention with really awe-inspiring, funny, and brilliant stuff.
Did my school just advise me to use Internet Explorer? Aw it just gets worse... Looks like I'll be installing IE6, brb
I'm going for that 90s era shitty website look, how am I doing.
I don't work on an hourly bases, I just give them a full quote on how much the end project will cost.
You should know what your hourly rate is regardless, since your fixed bid price should be based on that hourly rate.
That should get rid of him if he's a fag. [editline]12th December 2011[/editline] Just realized I typed "around ~1600" :v:
Should take any quote seriously, who knows might be a client that'll be willing to pay your amount of $1600, or even more. You'll feel like a jackass afterwards.

Nothing, meant no disrespect if it came out wrong. I meant for future references, not referring to just you in particular.
Hey guys, how about some obfuscated code [t]http://gabrielecirulli.com/p/20111212-201854.png[/t]
My god, I'm working with flash and it's so overly complicated. [editline]12th December[/editline] "translations, Layer 'back_button', Frame 4, Line 4 1021: Duplicate function definition." /rage.
How is it overcomplicated? I've always found flash to be really straight forward.
Did my school just advise me to use Internet Explorer? Aw it just gets worse... Looks like I'll be installing IE6, brb
My school also uses the Frog VLE and it is the horribly coded... tables everywhere, inline JS, inline CSS and instead of anchor tags, there's JavaScript that looks like this: document.getElementById('link').onclick = function() { window.location = What is the freaking point? The site also takes like 5 seconds to load each page. Terrible, even more so when you realise the school paid a large amount of money to have it installed.
How is it overcomplicated? I've always found flash to be really straight forward.

function fl_ClickToGoToScene(event:MouseEvent):void { MovieClip(this.root).gotoAndStop(1, "navigation"); }
Maybe I'm doing something completely wrong, but this much code for a link to another scene? (this is how I've been taught at college).

function fl_ClickToGoToScene(event:MouseEvent):void { MovieClip(this.root).gotoAndStop(1, "navigation"); }
Maybe I'm doing something completely wrong, but this much code for a link to another scene? (this is how I've been taught at college).
Would this work? It shortens the function code by a bit, and adding new links is just copying/pasting event listeners. Have event listeners for each scene
example_scene1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToScene); example_scene2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToScene);
Then define your function like this
function fl_ClickToGoToScene(evtObj:MouseEvent){ gotoAndStop(evtObj.target.name);
