-snip- wrong WAYWO :v:
Teacher liked it, so I decided to actually put some effort into this.
I always wanted a machine that dispensed both festive ribbons AND toilet paper! Seriously now, that's looking pretty damn solid! I'd put a bit more work on the part where the ribbons meet the top, that still looks a bit too rough. I'd probably do away with it completely:

I tried cutting the top bar away: But I'm not too sure about it.. It looks as if something is missing. Do you have any suggestion on how to fix the top bar rather than getting rid of it? Also yeah, the logo part looks a lot like toilet paper, but I think it also looks nice. What do you think?
Heh, don't put too much thought in my toilet paper remark, it was a joke, I think the logo section looks fine. As for the top bar, I get what you mean, and played around with another idea; very rough but you get the point: Not too satisfied with this approach either, but just throwing some more ideas in the mix.

Are they hanging down from the top of the panel? I like the idea, but I'm also a bit concerned about that black part that formed behind them. [editline]5th September 2011[/editline] I've also tried it without the flag for the logo, but I'm not too sure about it. For me it kind of breaks the flow and gives no importance to the logo. What do you guys think?

What are your guys thoughts on the use of silverlight in web development?
What are your guys thoughts on the use of silverlight in web development?
Bad idea.
What are your guys thoughts on the use of silverlight in web development?
In my opinion it's a bit too redundant and far-fetched. I think all you can do with Silverlight you can do easily with Flash or HTML as well, so it's kind of useless. Not to count that many users don't even know what silverlight is, whereas almost everyone has flash or new html technologies support. [editline]5th September 2011[/editline] I've moved the curvy lines to the bar to remove the flat feeling Looks way less flat to me right now.

It's good, the only problem for me is the color of the button which makes some sort of eye-killing contrast with the grayness of the page. If I were you I'd dim it a little or chose an entirely different color. Also nice to know you went back to work on DAFK!
What are your guys thoughts on the use of silverlight in web development?
Bad idea, which is sad, since for most purposes Silverlight is an infinitely more capable tool than flash or java applets - but install rates are limited, and the train has passed by now with HTML5 rolling in.
I don't mean to shoot your site down, but isn't the file hosting market already dominated by the likes of dropbox etc?
It's of limited use, mostly for myself and a few friends, as a replacement for the old up.dafk - and having such a small user base will allow me to play around with some neat features that wouldn't fly elsewhere. edit: damn you guys post fast, you keep breaking my merges ;0
The only good thing I heard of it is that it can do 3D, what else is there to it?
My opinion on the subject is obviously biased, but I simply believe it provides a better environment - threading support, stronger DOM/JS integration, being able to write in C#, etc.
Those illustrations are weird to say the least, but pretty awesome. And about the button, I do want it to clash with the rest of the page, and it looks good for me, on my end, but I'll double check on some other monitors to see if I should really tone it down a tad.
Anyone have some tips on where to learn JavaScript? I'd like to learn the language good before moving on to jQuery and Node. Already got the basics in, but I would like some more in-depth tutorial. Preferably not a book. I'd rather have a web resource that I can run through in a couple of days.

Hm, about web apps, would the workflow to make a very functional app be first implementing it in just a static page fashion (basically just server side scripting) with no regards towards interactivity, and then build a layer of AJAX around it or are there any better ways?

Not that you can't jump between front-and-back, but working on the back-end first, in a static context, helps you reduce backtracking later down the line (where you would otherwise run into front/back conflicts).

Read up on progressive enhancement.
Nice to know, I thought it wasn't the best way to go about it.
I think my eyes got severely damaged in the making of this, I totally need to tone down that red. (still not done yet with the content of that box, will add some pictures and a button) [editline]6th September 2011[/editline] Forgot to explain, that's the piece that pops up when one of the small ribbons is clicked. Contains more information and stuff.
