It's more like a concept really. Not a clone, but I can try. I can CSS, but I got permission from cas97 to use his, so instead of wasting time doing it myself, he did it for me (kind of). I can also do the jQuery effects, I just dunno how to optimise it for chrome. If you know how to optimise it for chrome, that'd be great. I just don't get why it can't render perfectly like FF, etc can.
For me it works the same if not better in Chrome.
For me it works the same if not better in Chrome.
I'm getting laggyness on the buttons, etc. when using Chrome :smith: Well, time to start the login system, any pointers?
Let's just say that you can't admit to be a talentless person, RusselG.
Let's just say that you can't admit to be a talentless person, RusselG.
I wouldn't say I'm 'talentless' as such, more like I'm at a beginner/medium skill level. Everyone has to start somewhere, right?
I wouldn't say I'm 'talentless' as such, more like I'm at a beginner/medium skill level.
I wouldn't say I'm 'talentless' as such, more like I'm at a beginner/medium skill level. Everyone has to start somewhere, right?
Since when I started (and people who have been here for a longer time can attest for this) I have never dared stealing anything from anyone. I've only used what was given to me for free and I could not produce myself (like for example google's open fonts), and produced everything else (code, designs) all on my own.All I've done was reading tutorials, listening to critique and observing other people's work, trying to understand what's good and what isn't, and trying to make their technique mine. You do not learn by copying. In fact, the more you copy the less you learn. And you're the living proof of that.
You can take inspiration from other peoples works, and it's ok to do so as long as you don't copy the code behind it. Looking at the code to see how it works is ok, but down right copying it is wrong on so many levels. Especially when you don't leave credits to the creator(s).
Not saying it's okay to blindly copy code, but being a developer is half about knowing how to write code that does what you want from scratch and half about knowing how to leverage existing code to save time. There's no reason to reinvent the wheel if you can just adapt something else to do what you need.

He's not leveraging the needed code to make development faster. He's merely assembling bits and pieces without a care in the world about how they work and who made them. Yes but I'm sure that some of the people joining in on calling him out didn't even look to see if that was the case :P
Yes but I'm sure that some of the people joining in on calling him out didn't even look to see if that was the case :P
It's not the first time he does this. I know this for a fact because I was the one who reported him to Reag the first time. [editline]20th September 2011[/editline] Thank you BrettJay, tighter kerning really improved it. [editline]20th September 2011[/editline] The white highlights are made with vectors. Photoshop's vector tools are awesome to say the least.

Needs like 2-3 more px spacing between the o and the g
Needs like 2-3 more px spacing between the o and the g
Don't worry too much actually, that logo isn't going to go anywhere.
Man, have nowhere else to post this, but had an interview for a job yesterday, and part of the interview involved creating an HTML and CSS template that had been designed by their graphic designer, but the only browser I had access to was IE6. I'd forgotten how much centring stuff in IE6 sucked arse.
Why did they only give you access to IE6? Was it part of the interview/test or did they just not have anything else....
Just updated the 'Engine' section of my website ( http://mastersrp.kodingen.com/ ) to automatically check if the correct server with the latest documentation was online and, if it was, redirect to it. If it wasn't, then it would redirect to some fallback content on the current server (not 100% up to date version of the documentation). And added a tiny media player too! :v:
It's unusually quiet in here today.... I'm highly considering bringing Cosmos.is back from the dead. It was way too ambitious originally and quite ambiguous (I've always wanted to fit those two words in the same sentence). It morphed into Soshell which to be honest was a horrible attempt to kill five birds with one stone (Cosmosis, an open source framework, a personal project, and two sites for clients). So then, what will Cosmos.is be? -A community created for designers/coders -Coded in Python+Django with MySQL as a database (for now) -Open sourced on github -A simplified mix of an imageboard, a forum, and a news stream (Dribbble+Facepunch+4chan?) Just reply if you want to help, no need to PM. This is my 3rd time trying to organize a community project and I'm not going to fail you guys again. I've already penciled time into my weekly schedule for a "fun project" and this fits the bill.
I'd be down for helping out, I'm not too shit at design and I've been using django recently. on an aside, I think for it to work you're going to need to assemble the team, of say, 5-10 people, then you need to assign each person a specific role so that people know what they actually need to get done. From observing the previous attempts it seems that what happens is you assemble the team and then it's a case of 'Ok guys, do stuff!' and no-one has any idea what's going on.
I'd love to help, since I really lack some teamwork experience amd this could also helpe learn how to use Django which I've always wanted to. Count me in if you want me! [editline]21st September 2011[/editline] Please don't mind the grammar in that post, I'm on my phone.
I'd be willing to lend a helping hand. Is there any reason as to why you are using MYSQl (which rules out the google app engine).
I could do a site/logo design if you need :)
I'd be willing to lend a helping hand. I'll be starting a new thread soon. I think I'm going to get some groundwork coding done first though so we've got some direction.
H4Z3Y is a great teacher! He taught me about correct database design and normalization, and I'm very happy about it  Thank you!
First post on Facepunch. A little scary, it's a big forum compared to what i wrote on before... But that last forum was way to uncreative, some photo-people and other picture-related stuff (comics and such) but not much for coders. So i went over here and saw that there was this big juicy Web Development board and then i saw this thread. "Awesome" i thought. Im not that great on webcoding it seems, after have read some of the newbie-tutorials and "dont fuck up" threads, but hopefully i can learn more from you guys. So... hi! Think i will follow this thread and board pretty close so you will probably se more of me then. Will also post some of my work but be warned: I cant design for shit, just focusing on the PHP parts and trying to make functions for sites more than somthing good-looking...

That way you learn a lot and avoid all the drama.
