Implementation of what exactly? I'm aware of the lack of classes for PK Russet itself; but there's not much point in functions in most cases, other than for namespace sake.
I meant that the autoloader implementation I wrote is very simple, just that. Also, for the curious ones, I'm releasing the full code for the old dafk.net website. Including the..ahem..."framework", a file uploader, a short-url app, etc. The code is horrible, most certainly insecure and will not work without a lot of changes. If you decide to take a peek, prepare to be scarred, and please promise not to learn anything from what you find (unless that lesson is "oh, so THAT's how you fuck it up").
Isn't that what everybody says about their own code?
I have some code I'm very proud of, but I wrote dafk.net just as I was taking my first steps with PHP, and it obviously suffers for that - things like global state strewn about, inconsistent functionality, probably unsafe database calls, the absolute-path inclusions, etc.
I like how you talk to yourself in your changelog. :v:
redoing the notifications for gradstr, with nifty little popup things on hover
I meant that the autoloader implementation I wrote is very simple, just that.
Ah yeah, I snipped and cut a few bits around, simple is good :)
[thumb]http://brettjones.me/i/irc-as-lively-as-ever.png[/thumb] One day we'll get this project up and running....... :v:
Yeah...I need to get a better IRC client. It disconnected me long before that and didn't notify me so I didn't see any of that. Any suggestions for mac?
Why don't we use skype instead of IRC?
IRC is portable. You can IRC from your toaster.
IRC is portable. You can IRC from your toaster.
Skype is available for Linux, OSX, Windows, Android and iOS. That's about as portable as you can get.
These days, you can Skype from a lot of devices too, I'd think. Hell, the PSP Slim had Skype. Mouse over get Skype on their site, you've got Windows, Linux (natively! Wowee), Mac, Android, iOS, Symbian, for the iPad, even some TVs. We live in the age where everything is portable, so IRC doesn't have much going for it anymore aside from the old IRC-based communities. Edit: boop ^ my post is bigger than his
Skype is available for Linux, OSX, Windows, Android and iOS. That's about as portable as you can get.
Or you could just use something that's been proven by the test of time and is based on an open protocol. IRC is infinitely more portable. I can't really think of any compelling reason to use Skype instead of IRC. (And now that Microsoft owns Skype, I doubt that they're going to keep maintaining all of Skype's clients. The Linux version is already behind the Windows one.)
How do you guys get past the problem of making a register / login page look less empty, especially on wider pages? I've been trying to get a design down for one but it doesn't look right because of this.

Got an answer yesterday for a meeting at the place I'll do some work for. Gonna make a system to order and rent apartments, complete with payments etc. It's going to be fun if I get the job. And I'm really glad that I don't have to make the graphics for it. If I'm good enough I'm certain I might get a job there when it's all over.
put a box around it :v: [editline]24th September 2011[/editline] atleast i think that works.
That's pretty much what I've done, but it feels really inconsistent.
That's pretty much what I've done, but it feels really inconsistent.
Header with logo, login box in the middle of the page and a footer should do
Add more content.
Kind of detracts from the entire purpose of a login page. I'd just have a good looking contact form bang centre of the screen, with just one small link back to the main site area. Keep stuff uncluttered so people know what they need to do and don't get distracted. That's even more important on a registration page.

vimeo's login page is godly http://vimeo.com/log_in
The following link is an article about building landing pages, but it's just as relevant for login pages too. http://www.clickz.com/clickz/column/2105039/backward-landing-page
Well worth watching: http://www.stubbornella.org/content/2009/03/23/object-oriented-css-video-on-ydn/
Needs a nsfw tag for yahoo, other than that, good vid.

And that gold member forum sucks; everyone' so harsh.
Fill it with promotion! Tell people why they should login/register. And that gold member forum sucks; everyone' so harsh.
Especially since they shun everyone who posts if they're boostard.
GMF is a piece of shit, I actually had some respect for gold members before I went in there because they made decent posts from what I could see but now....
Ah well, good thing we've got a (mostly) asshole-free web-dev section :)
