I'm gonna make a website that uses red for success and green for error, failure, and warning. Just to break the mold.
Horrible idea. Doing things that go against establish user expectations just to go against them is one of the dumbest things you can do as a designer.

Make an e-commerce website that claims to sell photography gear, but instead deliver killer bees to your customers' homes.

"breaking the mold" in terms of UX is a very bad idea.
"breaking the mold" in terms of UX is a very bad idea.
Why would that be? Wouldn't be the first time in history people decided to just do the opposite of what was the norm, for any reason. I don't think there is a bad Idea in design. I don't believe anyone can really judge what is supposed to be a good design or not, because it is personal.
You can break the mold without causing usability nightmares for your users.
Of course there are bad ideas in design, why would you think otherwise?

My loins :(
Design is much less subjective than what you think, it is governed by multiple constraints - the human form, human language, global and local culture, etc - there's always room to create, innovate and to an extent, "break the mold", but you're always bound in one way or the other.
Design ≠ Art
Javascript:

string = (typeof(b) != 'undefined') ? string : 'Are you sure?';
var agree = confirm(string);

}

<a href="/this/is/the/link" onclick="confirmDelete(this.target.href)">Delete me!</a>

But even with art, some stuff is still shit.
Talking to Andrew, found out he has a thing for the pixellated effect used in Facebook and Google+ screenshots, so I tried recreating the effect myself:

I can think of a few cool situations to use this new effect in :D
The only issue is that it doesn't work on noise backgrounds.
I found out what the issue was with the noise backgrounds. When you skew it in Photoshop, Photoshop removes the actually desired moiré pattern. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moir%C3%A9_pattern)
What we should be doing is skewing the target, like you did, but (cheaply) taking a screenshot of the preprocessed layer, then pasting it back in. Then finish off with depth of field with lens blur for a close photographic replication.
I don't see your point, nor what you're trying to say, care to explain?

Sure, design can ignore "the mold" but web design is more about UX than plain old design, so no. You shouldn't suddenly decide to put the link back to the homepage at the bottom of the screen.

There's an old "chat bot" called NIALL that I've always loved (http://www.lab6.com/old/niall.html).
It starts out with no knowledge of the English language. It learns from what you say to it, and formulates its own sentences. Unfortunately, it doesn't actually respond to what you say - it just formulates sentences randomly based on what it's learned. I might be able to change that eventually (by increasing the probability of certain word choices based on user input).
I took the old Perl code and ported it to Javascript - I built it on top of the chat demo for Node.js / socket.io .. so multiple users can log in and chat with it at the same time.
It's available at http://nickperez.net:3000 . I can't guarantee that it'll stay up. We'll see. I've been feeding it news articles, Wikipedia articles, erotic stories, beer reviews, and insults. This is a horribly foul-mouthed bot, so feel free to say whatever you want. It can't get much worse (though I haven't taught it any racist words yet. I'm sure someone will take on that task.) NSFW

Hah, I wanted it to have a comprehensive knowledge of dirty words before sharing it publicly. This way, the damage is already done. The erotic stories helped, but the worst of it came from my filthy mind.

Dr. Derp:to be or not to be, that is the question
NIALL:Oh.
I made a little JS and CSS minifier/compressor tool with node.js, http://uglify.nodester.com/. It just uses modules for compressing shit found on NPM, but I was bored.

You know that on smaller monitors the whole picture wont show up, so it's just a random picture of your face
Also, the navigation links in black text are hard to see against the patterned background

totally context-less
I would love to know how you guys did that screenshot effect, mind telling?
I can give you the .psd if you want.
I can give you the .psd if you want.
That would be lovely, thanks.
http://www.andrewmcwatters.com/Faux%20Screenshot%20Photograph.psd
I now realize that due to the way I had to process layers, this isn't going to really be much help.
What you need to do is create a pixely pattern, and make that the pattern overlay for a blank, white-filled layer on a separate document, then take a screenshot of the skew, and duplicate this layer to your main document where your screenshot is.
This is a dirty solution to getting around a graphical fix that Photoshop employs, which removes our desired moiré pattern. This attempts to mimic what falls inline with what would happen if you took a photograph of an LCD monitor.
If anyone can recommend a cleaner procedure, with a better looking solution, please correct me.
Example:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/Ldnh0.jpg[/t]
Then take that layer, clean up the edges (background remove or similar method), remove the Photoshop lines, and set it to render as multiply, and have it sit on an equal skew of your screenshot, as a clipping mask.
Pick your favorite DOF method, and apply.
