I'm pretty sure I read in the Apache manual that this isn't every advisable
They might have done it to demonstrate the feature of Apache.

Still looks wrong to me.
I'd add another column of album covers and make sure the text lines up with the top and bottom of the images block. I'd also change the colour of the "start using Disko" button to orange to make it stand out from the green elements.

I wouldn't
I'd also change the colour of the "start using Disko" button to orange to make it stand out from the green elements.
The colorscheme is green, white and grey. Adding orange in such a random way would make it look like shit.
I personally wouldn't use orange, but a second color to use as a stronger accent color wouldn't hurt.

a darker green?

Use any colour, just make it a different one to that used in other parts of the site.

Oh goody, album covers can be pulled from amazon very easily. Is that advisable to do?

It's pretty much just a blank webpage with the Minecraft-esque image on it and something about wordpress, and a link that doesn't lead you anywhere.
Did I miss something?

Urgh just double checked and I fucked something up when making it, i think i setup the directories wrong, i'm pretty confused in the differences between putting say
../images
/images
And
images
I know the first goes to the root then looks for "images" but what about the other two?

.. is the parent directory of the current working directory. Say you were in /usr/bin, ../ would be /usr.
it's /images that goes to the root
images without anything preceding it is the current directory

Ah thank you, now to fix 90% of my links :/
To me it looks like the php.net alpha site is designed by developers, not saying its a bad thing though its clean and simple and seems to suit the purpose very nicely.
It's true, I'm not really a HUGE fan but it's a great improvement. It's been in alpha for a long ass time though. I remember seeing this design on the PHP blog about a year ago.

don't forget ./ is the current directory!
/usr/bin/././././ is still /usr/bin/ !

Heck, I remember when it was green, and when it was not called an alpha, but a beta!

bland, boring, common. lack of color besides for a not-so-appealing shade of green. header lacks attraction. login button text is too big for the box it's contained in. the inset is odd.
SVG image > CSS3 gradient?
It really depends if you want to support older browsers, use SVG for older ones. SVG is good as a fallback, but would work as a main because SVG behaves the same cross-browser. If you want to be picky with browser support, just use CSS3 gradients.
This is pretty cool, anyone doing it?

The logo text on its own doesn't feel very much like the "PHP" brand. The purple makes it, well, PHP, but the text doesn't seem to have much of an identity on its own.

No, it's just that if you want users you need to innovate. If you don't expect users though, no need to worry about it then.
