You say 5 dollars yet its $5. Your logic is wrong.
What did I say wrong exactly?
There is no right or wrong answer:
When writing currency amounts the location of the sign varies by currency. Many currencies, especially in Latin America and the English-speaking world, place it before the amount (e.g., £50.00); many others place it after the amount (e.g., 50.00 S₣); and, before they were abolished, the signs for the Portuguese escudo and the French franc were placed in the decimal position (i.e., 50$00 or 12₣34). The standardized European default placement, used in absence of a national standard, is that (€) is placed before the amount. However, many Eurozone countries have sustained or generated alternative conventions.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Currency_sign
Wikipedia is wrong, take it from an European. it's 5€.
You are wrong, take it from a citizen of one of the first country's to get euro's. [editline]09:49PM[/editline]
In every (internet) shop in my European country, the €-sign is a prefix. But anyways, it depends of wich country you're from, some put it before, others after. [editline]a[/editline] We might as well argue on something while we wait for the challenge.

[editline]09:57PM[/editline] I mean, with our old currency's.
Welcome to the Programming forum. It's all a huge argument here.
Welcome to the hardware/software forum, It's all a huge argument here.
This thread turns into a 'serious discussion' into a currency discussion.
Upload it, maybe? Woot. Page king
Since everybody seems so eager to start I can start this at next Monday at the same time instead. I've chosen next Friday due to the weekend, but I can finish this tomorrow or at Sunday already. Yeh, let's change it to Mondays.

welcome to the programming forum, where everyone spergs out about irrelevant shit like whether the euro symbol is a suffix or not.

in australia we put the dollar sign before
In PHP we also put the dollar sign before.
In PHP we also put the dollar sign before.
Please don't turn this topic into a programming one.
In PHP we also put the dollar sign before.
Yes, but it aint a euro is it?
Yes, but it aint a euro is it?
There was this one guy in the web programming forum using a pound sign in PHP :wtc:
There was this one guy in the web programming forum using a pound sign in PHP :wtc:
Reason why a programming language shouldn't use currency symbols. But someone who does that must be a bit dumb too.
There was this one guy in the web programming forum using a pound sign in PHP :wtc:
When you say pound do you mean £, lb or #?
When you say pound do you mean £, lb or #?
I'm sure he meant £, but why do multiple units have the same name? Didn't they come up with something different?
I'm sure he meant £, but why do multiple units have the same name? Didn't they come up with something different?
They did come up with other names, it's just some americans like to call '#' 'pound'. I don't know why, prehaps they're just trying to feel like they have a language of their own. In pretty much every other English speaking country it's called the 'hash' sign.

I don't know why, prehaps they're just trying to feel like they have a language of their own.
From Wikipedia:
Mainstream use in the U.S.A. as follows: when it precedes a number, it is read as "number", as in "a #2 pencil" (spoken aloud as: "a number two pencil"); however, when it follows a number it is read as "pounds" referring to the unit of weight, as in "5# of sugar" (spoken aloud as "five pounds of sugar"). The first form is more widely used by the general population while the second form is more specifically used in the food service and grocery/produce industries, or other fields where units of pounds (as weight) need to be hand-written frequently or repetitively.
I've lived in the US all my life (I'm 28) and I've never seen that latter usage, though I don't work in the foodservice industry. But people call it the "pound sign" nonetheless, and I'd always wondered why. Just yesterday I was instructed to dial an ID number "followed by the pound sign" during a call to an automated phone system. Maybe if we ever actually switch to metric we'll be able to stop calling this thing by the wrong name. (Either that or it'll become the "kilo sign"...)
Welcome to the Programming forum. It's all a huge argument here.
Yeah, without our arguments why would we need this forum?
Let the games begin! I think I've made it too easy, but we'll see...
