How do we submit our games? I just posted it in the thread, is that okay?
If I am quick I will finish level 2 before the deadline. I have had to leave out one of the power-ups though.
The fear inspired key bashing when you realize you only have 1 hr 35 minutes. :suicide:

I may as well submit what I have, however little I have. I had fun making it and so I will continue making it. Still need: > Art (buildings, backgrounds, more zombies). > Music. > Extra levels/ scenarios. > A general storyline. > Credits menu. > Much, much more I'm sure I've missed off. I'm pretty pleased with it so far though. I might post it in WAYWO when I'm done. Are we going to have a voting thread in GGD again, or are we just voting here? Who's setting that up?
Sorry for lateness. My internet has been lksdjfklsdjfksldjfslkdfjsljdkhkslhdfkhafakdhfalhfdjshfueihgjkdbfvkdfbvigvjkfadhgdshgijfhkjsrgheklrghalkjhgdjksfhgeirgergpepowipoejkasdnvxmcvxcbvnxcbvwpvriwrwueoqueirhsjkdhfjksdhfjkdvnsdnvskmmfvswoirjvksdv all week. Originally completed this dumb game the first day but then tried to add an additional element for games that end in a draw. But I scrapped that idea so here's the original game minus art. In one week, on Dec 3, at 7:00 PM, US MST, (Dec 4 3:00 AM GMT) will be the end of voting. Don't vote on your own game. (...because I can't rate this post/vote for mine) A tie will have a 50% split for first/second, with the game posted first getting first pick. This is a lot smaller than the last comp, so I don't really think that it justifies a thread in GGD. If you disagree, just rain boxes.
I vote for Fucking Water, absolutely no question about it. Fucking Perspective as a runner up. Really though, Fucking Water is absolutely fantastic as far as art goes, and it's a nice original concept that isn't too complex, but not too simple either, so obviously the same should be said about the originality of the game. It's really fun to play, and the AI and simple game concept makes it a bit more varied than the average platformer. As far as polish goes, the sound design is good, not amazing, but still fitting for the game and not annoying either. The music is good quality while being pretty subtle, so that's a definite bonus, and the awesome artistic design in the game makes it really aesthetically pleasing. Fucking Replayability: 2/5 Fucking Originality: 4/5 Fucking Fun-ness: 4/5 Fucking Polish: 5/5 Great job to those involved :) [editline]27th November 2011[/editline] To be honest though I think using the average numeric score to determine the winner is idiotic. Numeric scores for aggregated reviews are OK because generally you can focus on one author/site's standards for each score and get a good feel of the game's quality based on previous reviews and your level of agreement. Having a bunch of forum users use numeric scores is really bad for an actual contest, since some people will try to be extremely realistic or brutal with their numbers, and others will be generous. I think you should choose the winner based solely on who get's the most people saying "I like this one the best".
...I think you should choose the winner based solely on who get's the most people saying "I like this one the best".
That's what it is. The #/5 thing was in the OP, so I figured I shouldn't just throw it out.
You can't use a game you've made previous to the fucking start date you fucking ponce. You can however use previously made frameworks or engines.
Fuck.
Oh great! Everyone is sucking Maurice's dick again. I mean, come on, an echochrome clone? How original. Multiplayer TIC-TAC-TOE is where it's at; fuck you guys.
Alright, so I played them all... Fucking Perspective was overall the best entry, now for the review of each game: Note: Take everything I say here as constructive, my intentions are not to insult anyone, only to help them in future contests/projects. Fuck Top Down Zombie Shooters Fucking Replayability 2/5 Fucking Originality 1/5 Fucking Fun-ness 3/5 Fucking Polish 5/5 Honestly, the top-down zombie shooter is overdone, and this entry doesn't bring any new mechanic to the table to make things interesting. After getting to $200 and never getting below 90% health (I was left clicking too, no automatic right clicking), I was getting pretty bored. Otherwise, a good entry with a lot of polish (only thing I can say is that the music got just a little annoying after a few minutes) Fucking Pong Fucking Replayability 3/5 Fucking Originality 2/5 Fucking Fun-ness 3/5 Fucking Polish 5/5 This game was pretty enjoyable. The powerup mechanic that you added was pretty cool. I only ended up playing 2 or 3 rounds in single player, though. A few things to consider: The AI is impossible unless you have 2 simultaneous balls passing through at the same time, put a speed limit on the AI to make things fair. Also it took me about 5 minutes to realize that I needed the XNA 4 redistributable and went to download it, most users wouldn't know that. Before I got the redistributable, the process would just start and then disappear, no error or warning. It's always a good idea to package XNA/.NET with your program. Fucking Water Fucking Replayability 3/5 Fucking Originality 4/5 Fucking Fun-ness 4/5 Fucking Polish 4/5 I didn't end up getting very far in this game, but the little bit that I did play was pretty good. If you've ever played Osmos, it reminded me of that, only as a platformer which I think is pretty cool. The chalkboard theme is pretty good. Menus feel unresponsive though, and it took me a few seconds to realize I had to press enter on the game over screen to be able to choose retry or main menu, an underscore or blinking cursor would have really helped there. Also I had a major nostalgia trip with the music, had to look at the filename to realize what it was from. I played Jazz Jackrabbit a lot when I was 4-5 years old. Fucking Perspective Fucking Replayability 5/5 Fucking Originality 5/5 Fucking Fun-ness 4/5 Fucking Polish 5/5 Like I mentioned earlier, I believe this is the best entry in this contest. It's a simple but interesting mechanic that I haven't seen done before (there may be a game that has done this before, if there is I don't know about it). The time, steps, and warp challenges, as well as the coins provide a reason to go back to older levels. The art style is very well defined and consistent. As with most puzzle games, it did get a bit frustrating for me in some parts, which is why Fucking Fun-ness isn't a 5. There's a pretty steep difficulty curve just around halfway through. Extremely well polished. Escape The Fucking Cafe! Fucking Replayability 1/5 Fucking Originality 3/5 Fucking Fun-ness 4/5 Fucking Polish 3/5 Based solely on the 1 actual non-tutorial level, this game has potential (not counting the debug level). Because there's only one actual level, I can't give much of a replayability score, your time for the level isn't recoreded, otherwise you could do a "beat your lowest time" thing and I'd probably give you a 2 or a 3. I can't really put my finger on it, but I feel like I've played a game with a very similar mechanic before, but it's got potential - all we have right now are speed up and add more time, other pickups would be cool. I had fun with this game, but the collision detection is a bit spotty and annoying, especially with the walls. The UI could use a bit of work and it would be nice to see some more time spent on polish/more levels. Yellow Fuck Dear Fucking Replayability 2/5 Fucking Originality 3/5 Fucking Fun-ness 2/5 Fucking Polish 1/5 This game could have used a LOT of polish. Launching the game throws me right into a round in a fullscreen window, without any instructions, warning, or menu. It took me a while to realize that I had to run into the enemies to kill them, I was avoiding them because they were twice my size and I thought they would kill me. Also the grass was hardcoded to your resolution, there is a sea of white to the bottom right of my screen when I play. Some help/instructions would have been really nice. Even on my i7 2600k / GTX570 this game didn't feel super responsive, especially when picking up blossoms. Fucking Zombie Chainsaw Massacre Fucking Replayability 1/5 Fucking Originality 1/5 Fucking Fun-ness 1/5 Fucking Polish 1/5 No audio, no health, no real reason to play. It took me a few seconds to realize that pressing space would kill the zombies. Also as I said earlier, zombie shooters are pretty cliche now. This entry should have been worked on a lot more before submitted. Keep working on it though, don't let this discourage you. It just wasn't ready to be submitted to a contest. PenisFuck: I Fuckedeth Thy Wench Fucking Replayability 2/5 Fucking Originality 2/5 Fucking Fun-ness 3/5 Fucking Polish 4/5 First off, MASSIVE download. And 62 of the 67MB was just uncompressed audio... I'd work on lowering that (you could bring it down to ~35MB just by encoding FLAC if you absolutely wanted lossless, under 10MB if you went lossy). Other than that, not much replayability, there's nothing original that sets it apart from the other games like it, but I still find these games fun. One of the biggest issues in my opinion is the massive hitbox for the penis. Usually these games have a really small hitbox in the middle of the object, not an AABB surrounding the object. I found it very frustrating when I kept on dying because something hit one of the upper vertices, which doesn't even collide with the penis texture. Fucking Tic-Tac-Toe Fucking Replayability 1/5 Fucking Originality 1/5 Fucking Fun-ness 2/5 Fucking Polish 3/5 So I couldn't connect locally by having 2 instances of the game open, one hosting and one as a client (probably some firewall setting or something), but I already know tic-tac-toe pretty well and this doesn't really add much to it. It looks more like a demo for some networking code than a game in the sense of all the other entries. Still, it's got some polish with the buttons and the server selection page. Definitely something to keep working on if you're trying to build up some networking code for a game.
-snip rating stuff-
Thank you. I was going to spend a lot more time cleaning stuff up, and actually making a level, but I think my Girlfriend is pregnant, so I ended up spending all of my week with her. I enjoyed being a part of the competition, even though I got my ass whooped.

I'm also going to implement an engine I made a while a go to help me make levels faster. Again thanks, feedback like this really helps.

I really appreciate the response :) A little side-note on the chalkboard theme, all the graphics are handdrawn on paper and scanned in (and touched up a little in photoshop, ofcourse).
God dammit, I really don't want Maurice to win. I like you Maurice, but the idea is not original at all.
God dammit, I really don't want Maurice to win. I like you Maurice, but the idea is not original at all.
Exactly. I also thought we had to follow the theme "fuck."

From all of the people I've played with, they all say the AI is extremely easy (they don't use power-ups etc.). The AI also moves at the same speed as the player. Multiplayer was definitely my main target in this game though so my single player is quite lacking. I'll keep in mind the XNA/.NET packaging for later projects.
God dammit, I really don't want Maurice to win. I like you Maurice, but the idea is not original at all.
Jeez. It's not like any of the ideas are revolutionary. And you still have to show me that other PC game that uses my mechanic.
God dammit, I really don't want Maurice to win. I like you Maurice, but the idea is not original at all.
Originality is 1/4 of the total score. More to the point, it's probably the most original game submitted. I don't see where you're going with this.
Originality is 1/4 of the total score. More to the point, it's probably the most original game submitted. I don't see where you're going with this.
The point is that Maurice's game has nothing BUT the gameplay concept and that's not his idea. I still think he should win since his game was most well-executed.
