How is there even confusion over how to say boolean
as if that effects what it is and where it came from?
but uhhh character doesn't have the word car anywhere in it it sounds more like care-acter
No. It's closer to kar-acter.
Edit: kar-ik-ter

Booleen or boolian?
I pronounced it boolian.
I say Char and Boolian. The same way my Computing teacher said them I guess.
Care. Same pronunciation as in the full word: "Character", but then without the "acter".
My teacher used chchchchchchchar (Dutch g :rolleye:)
It's like prunouncing Chaos in dutch:
http://www.forvo.com/languages-pronunciations/nl/alphabetically/C/page-4/
(click the play icon next to chaos)
but then without the "os" and with the "r".
Care.
I say car because it's easier than char (as in the first syllable from character)
Char as in charred wood and boolean as in boo-li-an.
This
I really, REALLY hate when someone pronounces it "booleen". IF IT WERE FUCKING BOOLEEN IT WOULD BE SPELLED BOOLEEN!
Care.
You don't. You say character.
It's like the age old debate - scone. Is it sc-own or sc-on? I pronounce it the former way. I also pronounce char as in charred wood.
Tsjar.
signed byte:saddowns:

That hand... :ohdear:
Saying car makes you sound like an idiot, so just watch out
I don't think it does, it's closer to the original word than char(red)

Did you know some words aren't pronounced the way they're spelled?
Care. Same pronunciation as in the full word: "Character", but then without the "acter".
Exactly. The "car" and "char" pronunciations don't make any sense at all.
I say char like char broiled.

So how do you pronounce "mean"? me-an?
"Tjar"
So how do you pronounce "mean"? me-an?
Perhaps my point was wrong, but boolean is DEFINITELY bool-e-an.
care
"chär"
It's definitely "car", it doesn't make sense to say "char". It's a completely unrelated pronunciation to the word it's abbreviated from.
Also "booleen" everyone around here says "booleen", that I've met.

Soooooooo....What now
-snip-
nvm boolean apparently is pronounced boo-li-an because it's named after Boole, similar to appending "-ian/-an" to denote something being derived from a subject(ex: elizibethan era art). no way related to the world lean(thinking leaning as a binary operation, lean one direction or the other, true/false)
i get it.
uh how do brits say "lean" j/w
I have never heard anyone say lean as "li-an" it is not two syllables and therefore there should be no confusion as how to say boolean...
boo-leen is how boolean should be pronounced w/ an American accent.
Boolean.
Boo-le-an.
Boo-lee-ann.
Phonetics are a funny thing.
You're also implying that the phonetics of the English language actually follow a consistent pattern when they really don't for the most part.
Boo-lean
Boo-leen
Do you pronounce lean leen or lee-ann?
