I would say car, but usually I would just say "character".
I pronounce it: care
Just out of mild curiosity, how does one go about finding a 1 and a half year old thread? Surely nowhere near the front page of the programming forum?

I saw a link in the programming joke thread. Blame them!
my fault

I pronounce "char" like "char"
Because everyone that pronounces a word a certain way must be dumb, right? :downs:
When I went to TechEd one year all of the Microsoft dev's pronounced EXE "exy" as in "Sexy" without an "s". It got on my nerves every freaking time I heard it.
Char, Boo li an, Sequel (SQL), Int ee jer, Cashh
car i dare you guys to join a programmers team and say char instead. LOL
That's like challenging someone to join a team who hates blue and say you love that color. If they decline you because of an opinion like that, they're idiots...

You don't pronounce character charr - akter do you? Its carr - akter. CAR GODDAMIT!
car i dare you guys to join a programmers team and say char instead. LOL
I work with a bunch of senior level dudes and for one, everyone says it like "charred" and two they don't really care if you say it as 'car' or 'char'
I work with a bunch of senior level dudes and for one, everyone says it like "charred" and two they don't really care if you say it as 'car' or 'char'
wow that just shows what environment you work in. Good job.
wow that just shows what environment you work in. Good job.
You're either very dumb or just trolling. Are you seriously implying that a work place that doesn't care about minor differences in a pronounciation of a 4 letter word is inferior to the one that does?
Tjargh

The first time I heard "char" was in my computer science class. My teacher said it was char as in "charcoal." I've been unable to change to "car" since.
chill. It's just wrong. Accept that.
Even if that were true, who cares?
chill. It's just wrong. Accept that.
are you mentally challenged

CAR GODDAMIT!
Actually, you'd expects professionals not to care about irrelevant and trivial issues like these that are purely opinion. Can't say that much about a programming forum, though, right?
the difference between 'char' and 'car' is like 'coupon' and '[queue]-pon' or 'coyote' being kai-oh-tee or kai-ote people pronounce it both ways and nobody really gives a shit about it unless you're some loser autist [editline]12th April 2012[/editline]
wow that just shows what environment you work in. Good job.
the kind of environment that provides software that's worth $2 million for a 5 year contract?
