It's august already! Here are the highlights from last month:
I'm currently working on flat-shaded terrain generation. Going quite well so far. LibNoise is amazing.
Figured out reflections. Pretty much been up 24 hours getting this to work. When I can't figure something out I can't stop until I have. I think that's a bad thing though, not good. The main problem was getting the projection matrix clipped for drawing the reflection.
Today I got the mesh simplification working on edits. There's lots of ways I can still improve it to make it faster but it's already pretty fast even while building the old mesh too.
The recording seems to slow the game down a lot in some parts, sorry about that.

Not sure how far I can take this, syncing things is becoming an issue. I think I will have to resort to SKSE or something to help with syncing it all together.
Just throwin that out there. :v:
After playing around with various languages since middle school, I'm finally starting college and majoring in CS. So I guess I'm working on that? Any advice? I heard my CS200 Professor make you take a ton of notes
I think my new monitor is going in a circle

early-in-thread request for no super large gifs over the next few days please since I'm moving house and will have to tether for a while and enjoy browsing waywo too much please thanks I love you all
keep your webm's below 720p too please
You know you can download an extension to handle that for you, right? Or just disable images all together.
[editline]31st July 2014[/editline]
Better yet, get Opera, turn turbo boost on, and change the image quality to low. This works wonders when you're browsing on slow connections.
I hope my game is flashy enough by the next thread to get highlighted. I feel like I'm getting close to that point.
Uh what I'm actually working on is art, basically pixel art is a bitch and I'm not making the transition to it very well

Yeah that's the joke... :v:
Anyway I made a pathfinding thing:

Pathfinding was on the top of my list of things to learn, since that always interested me. So I made a live world editor with path generation using the A* search algorithm
Ignore the programmer graphics I don't know how to art
zomg my first highlight :v:

Withdrawing this request since I got here and found out the previous tenants left their internet on. Yay.
I don't love you all anymore either.
I've been so lazy, didn't touch programming for 3 weeks now ;_;
Speaking of which, has anyone made a metro facepunch app?
I was still looking at the old topic and then realized oh it's August already.
When you think you don't make the highlight, you make it.

So uh, I made some kinda game engine thing out of SDL and Box2D and decided to make a small game with a friend using it to try it out.

It's not much, but it's not finished yet. Even when it is finished though, it still probably won't be much. As I said, it's a small game that sadly does not live up to the intro pic.
You used box2d for that? :o emoticon face!

feel free to look at it, doesn't actually interact with the app yet

I want something this nice for .NET development... WPF irritates me.
Garry released server files for the Rust experimental branch.

Instead of pissing about in a json file, I decided to make a UI this time round to easily hook into methods.

Well, there's that GUI framework I mentioned which can do this in theory.
All it needs is some contributions to get more controls and events going.
I think the most important one right now is adding mouse-over and click events for pointing devices.
(I do have UI traces which can be used to implement these just from the pointer movement and button state.)
There are a few other related projects that implement additional features that I didn't open-source yet. Also it uses deprecated OpenGL because I didn't refactor anything to be actually good beyond the shared core system. The OpenGL stuff is only one possible implementation of a renderer.
[editline]2nd August 2014[/editline]
Actually, I'm pretty sure that stuff can be compiled to basically any native UI system. WPF for example :v:
The Semantic UI stuff is really just a fairly loose and simple standard it seems, not much implementation.
Here's the Haskell integration package for VS. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35032740/HaskellPackage.vsix
I make absolutely no guarantees about it working properly but I would appreciate bug reports if anyone tries using it.
You need to have ghc/ghci installed. Preferably the Haskell Platform because that's what I use.
You also need ghc-mod which you can get via cabal. All of those need to be in your PATH.
Aside from that, I've only tested it on VS2013 ultimate and have NO idea how well, if at all, it works on other versions.
To use the extension just open any .hs file in Visual Studio. If you see syntax coloring, then it works.
Everything works by invoking ghc-mod from the command line so to use features make sure you save your file.
To see the type of an identifier, mouse over it. This works only if the file doesn't contain errors.
The errors get updated automatically on save.
The comment/uncomment block feature also works.
To get the GHCi window go to View -> Other Windows -> GHCi.
GHCi automatically refreshes and loads the currently open file whenever you hit save. If you get stuck with GHCi outputting too much data (for example, typing [1..]) just Ctrl-S on the currently open file and it will restart.
