They've never done me wrong.
What's the difference between hosting and your own VPS?
Hosting is much more limited.
A VPS, you get root access.

So it would probably be more beneficial getting a VPS even though I'm not really familiar with it?
Considering it is cheap.

You'll most likely break it.
If your site is mission critical, stay with shared. If you can afford to learn and experiment and mess things up, go right ahead - it'll be good for you.

Had my VPS for almost 2 weeks and I'm still reinstalling it every few days, it takes a while to learn, right now DNS servers and security are my issue, but if you are going to use someone elses DNS and don't care for security, a VPS would be a easy solution.

VPSes can be just as secure as anything else if you set them up properly.
However, if you're new to things it can be very easy to not setup the most secure configuration. It's all about learning anyway.
When I started with running my own server, I got hacked once (was running an outdated EventScripts on my CS:S server)
I've learnt from then, and I have never been hacked since.
I've never had a source server hacked before, though my VPS was hacked. I will keep going at it until I have it secure though.
I had one of my VPSes hacked too... some spam company pointed one of their domains to it and used Polipo (a proxy I was running without knowing) to traffic spam to and from it. I'm pretty sure they were using my mail daemon to send mass-spam mail too. Only found out about it when my VPS got suspended by the ISP.
The dedi I'm on seems secure enough, though, I've learnt since then. I have some neat stuff, like it mails me when a stranger manages to SSH login as root, mails me when it detects an IP is doing a portscan, I have my SSH server on a seperate IP to the IP everything else is listening on, general shit like that. Still paranoid though :tinfoil:
Dreamhost for hosting, 5wire works too.
If you want a VPS, go Linode or go home.
Fanatical VPS is very cheap and good
Hetzner is one of the best hosts for me although it's german.
You can get an i7 with 8GB RAM and 1,5 TB for 45€/mouth :aaaaa:
As to you (OP):

Once again you're wrong as Linode is excellent.
I've hosted VPS's at Linode, they are indeed an excellent host, highly recommended.
But thanks for the support guys!
