IRC is superior, it doesn't depend on one program like Steam, I don't have to be in windows or have WINE installed to get to it and I'm already using IRC for other channels. There isn't a unanimous verdict.
I agree with this.

But I'd rather have an active Steam chat than an IRC channel that dies within the month (you know, like pretty much all the other channels we've had) just so a couple of Linux users can join. That FPPCoders channel or whatever lasted a while before we moved to Steam. Why do you people insist on moving about so much? Now I have to have FPP, BetterFPP and now this open?

May I ask what you guys are using to record or convert files to webm?
May I ask what you guys are using to record or convert files to webm?
miro video converter
miro video converter
ew no use ffmpeg, much easier
ew no use ffmpeg, much easier
miro is an ffmpeg frontend with zero encoder configuration except for codec. i wouldn't say ffmpeg is easier, but it's certainly what you should be using if you want control over quality/compression/whatevs.
Blk, you'd rather exclude mac and linux people from the chat than give away your powers?
Just found out about extension methods in C#. How have i not discovered this before now. This will be really useful in some situations. :D
Just found out about extension methods in C#. How have i not discovered this before now. This will be really useful in some situations. :D
Holy shit I literally wondered if this was possible so many times. Thank you.
Blk, you'd rather exclude mac and linux people from the chat than give away your powers?
yeah, see. That argument would make more sense if: A) I wasn't against IRC way, way before I got "powers" B) I didn't suggest Benjojo to be leader instead of me C) Steam for Mac wasn't a thing [editline]16th May 2012[/editline] now you're just being silly

Why not write a Steam bot that outputs IRC chat to the steam chat and vice versa?

I guess it's too early to aplogize to the fp programmers group? :(
-snipped-
Nice work. You should fix that garbage collection issue, though; slowing down is a bit of a problem.
Why not write a Steam bot that outputs IRC chat to the steam chat and vice versa?
I made that, nobody really wanted it.
Actually, I think it is a good idea to exchange messages back and forward. Then both can have what they want. For example I would want both really because I can just add it to IRCCloud and be done with it. So I would like to have both. Also: Oooooooooook.
Steam for Mac is a steaming pile of shit.
Works fine for me?
Works fine for me?
You don't mind that it sits there constantly chewing up 25% of your CPU and leaking a gig of RAM per hour?
May I ask what you guys are using to record or convert files to webm?
Record as usual, and convert using this site: http://www.online-convert.com/
You don't mind that it sits there constantly chewing up 25% of your CPU and leaking a gig of RAM per hour?
I believe Steam does that on Windows too. At least, it does so on my PC. Which is why I don't really use Steam anymore.
I believe Steam does that on Windows too. At least, it does so on my PC. Which is why I don't really use Steam anymore.
been running for a week or so now so no it doesn't.
You don't mind that it sits there constantly chewing up 25% of your CPU and leaking a gig of RAM per hour?
Only about 10-15% of one core for me. Sure that's more than it needs to be using but it's not really affecting me at all. Seems to be holding steady at 200MB of ram too.
Optimisations are going well.
steam's cpu/mem usage doesn't really matter when it suffers from retarded desync issues with group chat all the time. [editline]16th May 2012[/editline] just come to #fpcoders on gamesurge plz
Optimisations are going well.
Optimizing the matrix? Anyway, I'm pretending to know how C++ works and attempting to make a simple UI-system with buttons and boxes. Going... alright so far. The cursor is on the button here.
been running for a week or so now so no it doesn't.
In about 30 minutes from turning Steam on it will sit at around 150mb of ram. Wat u do???
Made GMod output video from a demo, with frame blending (and DOF) [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGTsF9jZOLE[/hd] Kind of easy to do in the Source engine because Valve did all the work. I hooked it up to Holly so it can output webm or ogg. You can record in realtime too. [vid]http://puu.sh/v2NF[/vid] I wabt to add more codecs to Holly but the GPL scares me, I want to be able to ship Holly with GMod without having to GPL GMOD. Everything I've read says that this is a grey area - and you get away with it as long as there's enough space between your closed source stuff and your open source stuff.
