that's with touch typing... I don't understand why you wouldn't touch type.
Because growing up with computers, you can actually learn to type by yourself (which is really cool), and it doesn't seem to slow you down. But touch typing these days, I wouldn't change it for anything considering how efficient it is.

It's mostly muscle memory but if I'm given a different keyboard than the one I'm accustomed to it takes me forever to write anything down.
Oh I remember this website. I got 96 myself, but learnt a bit more C# to automate it and ended up with 255 every go. I exploited the fact that they provided the entire word list in a div tag, and just proceeded to punch in all 906 words (should be the same still, unless they've changed it). I'm fairly sure they cap it around that point as tweaking the application with believable keystroke and word reading delays revealed. Calculating the actual WPM fed me 1875. I'll have a look at it again in light of Smashmaster's 749.

Absolutely nothing changed, muscle memory still works. In worst case like using a laptop keyboard which is lack of some free keys you still get used to it in like few weeks.
It's funny how people try to get high WPM on qwerty keyboards when they're designed to be the least efficient layout possible

After looking it up it seems like it means keeping your fingers on the home row keys. If that's the case, I don't really do that. I definitely use F and J to help me find my way around (since they have little bumps on them) but I don't type "properly." I took a class in typing once. I could already type but had to take it. The teacher found that I typed faster my own way and said I didn't have to follow the traditional typing standard. I tend to find myself hitting the backspace key a lot on smaller keyboards though.
Words per minute (WPM) 67 Keystrokes 354 Correct words 65 Wrong words 3
I should probably learn how to type :(
Visit the Typing Test and try! The switching from top row to the bottom row of words tripped me up a few times in there, wasn't as fluid as I thought it would be as a transition. However, I don't type using the "home row". I do position my fingers there, but the way I type is through muscle memory and utilizing free fingers. Basically instead of using only one finger to type several letters, like if my right index finger should type the letter "y", but it isn't uncommon for me to use my left index finger to tap the 'y' key if my right index finger was being used for something else.
Words per minute (WPM) 47 Keystrokes 237 Correct words 45 Wrong words 0
Words per minute (WPM) 65 Keystrokes 334 Correct words 64 Wrong words 1 Seems to work best by looking a few words ahead and memorizing. I'm a bit sleepy though, could probably do a bit better. The memorizing part is kind of hard because the lines make no sense, my brain is wasting time trying to comprehend the words.
Words per minute (WPM) 91 Keystrokes 463 Correct words 87 Wrong words 1 Used all fingers except thumbs. Felt easier to say the words out loud.

Words per minute (WPM) 103 Keystrokes 514 Correct words 93 Wrong words 0 I only use my index fingers and middle fingers.
Words per minute (WPM) 78 Keystrokes 452 Correct words 74 Wrong words 2
It's funny how people try to get high WPM on qwerty keyboards when they're designed to be the least efficient layout possible
I don't know if I want to learn DVORAK as I'm afraid I'd forget QWERTY :v:
It's funny how people try to get high WPM on qwerty keyboards when they're designed to be the least efficient layout possible
My original reason to not learn Dvorak was that I often used computers whose layout I couldn't switch. This isn't actually the case anymore. I think I might just go rip up all my keys and relearn how to type...
Words per minute (WPM) 112 Keystrokes 560 Correct words 104 Wrong words 0 Better than the average, oh yeah. Also I noticed that my left hand uses pointer, middle and ring finger, but my right hand only uses the pointer and very rarely the middle finger. Weird.
I never really thought about which fingers I use while typing, but now it's going to bug me forever. Thanks. :suicide: 55wpm. I still look at the keyboard. When I'm just typing it's probably way faster.
Ok, after a bit of a kerfuffle because the home keys on this keyboard are shaped very slightly differently to all the others, I'm now typing very hesitantly in Dvorak! Woo! [editline]29th April 2012[/editline] BLAZING FAST!!!!!

If you can train your fingers to work the keyboard like that, you can work your way around a lot quicker...
Insecurities aside, here is my real score :(

The keyboard I'm using now has no key markings whatsoever so it'd be far easier to learn to type in Dvorak on this one (no key markings = forced to remember layout) but I'm pretty sure I'd still be stuck with the problem of computers with layouts I am unable to change.
Came first :) No idea what happened there.

Words per minute (WPM) 59 Keystrokes 309 Correct words 57 Wrong words 2 Meh I don't see the need to type faster, gives you more time to think.

Words per minute (WPM) 82 Keystrokes 417 Correct words 80 Wrong words 1 That one wrong word was due to me just "sprinting" at the end. :v:
Is this good? :v: I tried to do it last night / this morning, at 2AM, but I kept missing letters it wasn't even funny - I stopped like 10 seconds in haha. This time round, the three words I missed were the very last three - my eyes got too far ahead and I started typing the wrong words. Woops. :v:
