He said he's changing the menu colors AND going to do a huge overhaul of the engine. [editline]09:58PM[/editline] /grammar
Addictive
He said he's changing the menu colors AND going to do a huge overhaul of the engine. [editline]09:58PM[/editline] /grammar
He never actually said that. He said he was changing the engine, which lead me to believe that he thought that changing the engine would also mean changing the UI.
shut up already
He never actually said that. He said he was changing the engine, which lead me to believe that he thought that changing the engine would also mean changing the UI.
Rated DUMB. He said that he will be rewriting his engine not change it
This argument has gone way to far, let's all just let it go
Rated DUMB. He said that he will be rewriting his engine not change it
Rated DUMB. That was unnecessary.
Gentlemen, and lady, can we stop with the fighting? It was a mistunderstanding on Geel's part.
Gentlemen, and lady, can we stop with the fighting? It was a mistunderstanding on Geel's part.
uhhhh, that's not how you end an argument And no, you mis-spoke, geel did nothing wrong, go read your posts
An engine powers the rest of the application. It can do whatever the fuck it wants and tell you what you can and can't do. An engine may well handle the UI it's design choice.
Anything can do anything you want it to, of course you could say
make menu button1 red make menu bacground blue
And call it an "engine", but that definition isn't really going to help you when discussing it with other people. Besides, we aren't even talking about whether the engine handles the UI, we are talking about the claim that the engine actually decides what color the buttons are. He completely wrong, he's just too stubborn to admit it. What pisses me off is that he repeatedly attacks geel, when all geel was trying to do was help him.

What pisses me off is that he repeatedly attacks geel, when all geel was trying to do was help him.
For fuck sake, you say to end the argument and you end up continuing. I am NOT attacking Geel. An engine CAN handle the UI design, especially with how mine is designed.
we are talking about the claim that the engine actually decides what color the buttons are.
The colours are pre-defined in the engine, they aren't decided within the game. So, yes, I was right, to an extent.
No, not really. Regardless of what your engine is capable of, it's the game's properties that decide how the engine is utilized. I believe you're in the wrong here, bud.
I'll look bad for this, but allow me to assemble your jerky arguing techniques all together. 1.
Geel is commenting on how I have the intention of changing the menu as well. I stated "Yeah i'll change the menu", but I also stated "I'm doing an overhaul of the engine to fit Networking"
At no point in this thread did you say what you just claimed to have said. 2.
This argument has gone way to far, let's all just let it go
I suggested we drop the argument, without any attempt to get a "last word" in.
Gentlemen, and lady, can we stop with the fighting? It was a mistunderstanding on Geel's part.
Joshyy, instead, pretends to be amicable, then sneaks in one last veiled attack towards geel at the end. 3.
No, i'm talking about the engine. Don't try to correct me if you have no idea.
Joshyy get's corrected, goes on the extreme defensive. 4.
Engine -> UI -> Game.
uhhh... The obvious first argument here is "well that's how joshyy does it", except when you realize that that implies the ridiculous notion that geel's post was an attempt to be clairvoyant and see into joshyy's project files. In other words, geel was correcting joshyy's use of terminology, not on joshyy understanding of his OWN design. 5.
The colours are pre-defined in the engine, they aren't decided within the game. So, yes, I was right, to an extent.
Looking at this post with respect to #4, we see that joshyy is claiming that we are talking about his design and not engine design in general. I include this, because it shows how joshyy apparently has to be right, even if he knows what he is saying is a load of bullshit. 6.
For fuck sake, you say to end the argument and you end up continuing.
Tries to smear me, once again engaging in unethical arguing, as he knows that the only reason I continued arguing was because he broke the ceasefire. 7. In reference to andersonmat creating a game similar to arcadium;
I'd appreciate if you didn't. Since this is for my project that I get graded on, if they see something similar, extremely, they'll assume it's stolen.
Once again, joshyy proves he doesn't really care for the truth. He is upset that someone stole his project, but apparently decides that stating his feelings won't work, so he lies, coming up with "well my teacher will fail me when he discovers andersonmat's game, because obviously my teacher visits facepunch's programming section and won't be able to comprehend the simple explanation". In conclusion, your honor, As you can see, this goes way beyond a simple misunderstanding. This is not simply a case of joshyy refering to his own design and geel refering to the accepted definition of the terminology, as proven by
Geel is commenting on how I have the intention of changing the menu as well. I stated "Yeah i'll change the menu", but I also stated "I'm doing an overhaul of the engine to fit Networking"
He irrevocably ADMITS here, that the colors of the buttons are separate from the engine, and then goes back on it when it no longer makes him seem right. /caring too much
By the way, played your game. It's great! I would have somewhat enjoyed power-ups of some sort, even if it's just 2 or 3. Also, the fact that you pretty much 'restart' when you lose a life pretty annoying. For example, I managed to rack up 150,000 points on one of my runs with the first life, but every life after that seemed boring because of this. Perhaps instead of just adding MORE enemies to implement a difficulty factor, some other method may be used to make individual enemies more powerful. I'm sure I'll have more suggestions soon, this game is going places! Good luck, and I'll be checking in on the progress of this every so often, can't wait till it's done. [editline]02:56PM[/editline] Jesus, drop the whole thing already. No need to turn this thread into a debate over who misspoke.
You are really retarded, I wasn't upset. I'm fine with andersonmat remaking it. I'm actually getting graded for this project. It is not the teacher who grades it. It is random people. So stop trying to be a dick, drop it. [editline]04:38PM[/editline]
I'll look bad for this, but allow me to assemble your jerky arguing techniques all together. I'll continue my game. If anything we've both taken from Geometry Wars. :saddowns:
I'll continue my game. If anything we've both taken from Geometry Wars. :saddowns:
True, just change your graphics a little and i'm completely fine with it. I never had a problem with it, just a concern that they might spot it and call plagiarism.
Just tell 'em to talk to me. :v:
Sounds good :v: I look forward to seeing your version. :)
Dude I've made like 3 games that look exactly like yours. You can't go telling people not to copy :) Cool game though, gameplay is so fun and addictive. Keep it up :D
well this is a really bad copy of geometry wars and I'm sure the other guy's will be pretty much the same in that respect as you're both lacking creativity and clearly interested in game design. It's sort of funny that you're asking for $5 donations for a beginner coding project really there's tons of issues with the game, primarily it taking longer than starcraft 2 to initialize

Now get out.
And Starcraft 2 takes WAAAY longer to start :D

so whats the status of the game ? :D
so whats the status of the game ? :D
On hold until the end of my exams, which is sometime next week.
I like it, but I got swarmed and cornered way too easily after I died and came back with crap weapons. I suggest you either limit the # of enemies on screen or stop (or at least decrease) the downgrading of weapons. also, how was I supposed to defeat those shield guys? And can you make the enemy graphics maybe 2px thick because sometimes it's hard to spot them against the background.
My current hi-score is around 133,000. :buddy:
My current hi-score is around 133,000. :buddy:
I've started setting up the hi-score website backend. I should have it all set up ( except networking ) in the next few weeks.
