AI CHALLENGE DON'T WIN PLEASE I BEG YOU
Is it possible to change votes? I want to change from AI to Simulation software
At the end, can we vote between the two most popular options?
Or 4 most popular options :v:
Looks like it's going to be AI challenge. I guess we'll have another vote for what the AI challenge will be. Here's hoping it won't be Tron like they all are.
Does a crawler count as AI?
Does a crawler count as AI?
no
So I'm guessing AI or Disk visualiser.
Please for the love of visualizers make a final 1v1 vote [editline]5th June 2012[/editline] Lets have a vote whether or not we should have a final vote
AI vs Simulation
~AI Simulation~
AI vs Simulation
No no no no AI vs Disk Visualizer
No no no no AI vs Disk Visualizer
Um no Image Compression vs Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Um no Image Compression vs Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Let's try some suggestions that didn't make it to this poll penis vs boobs
I'll make the thread later today... Bed now.
why not keep it at AI, it's just a theme, there are so many things you can do that can be considered AI :) and even beginners can participate using something like gridworld, while the more advanced users can have their fun implementing A* and similar things. Gives everyone the chance to come up with something cool, with space simulation you need some kind of idea how physics work, and i think it is much more advanced and also less fun(watching an AI do funny things is generally more fun than watching a solar system IMO)
What does A* have to do with AI?

Fire up the perceptrons, got me some linearly separable functions to train
I wouldn't call one of the simplest pathfinding methods "advanced".
i thought it was a rather advanced way since it's used in a few 2D games, i'd love to see some of those even more advanced methods, one more reason to do the AI thing ;) i mean nav meshes and that is pretty cool too but a lot of work i would imagine
Pathfinding? :v:
I think we're operating on different definitions of AI. To me, AI is decision-making and pathfinding is just pathfinding. When I hear AI, I generally don't think 'computer game AI'. More like neural-network-controlled robotic bugs. 'Intelligence' is the capacity to learn, so IMO, artificial intelligence would learning algorithms. People use the term in lots of other places where, IMO, it doesn't apply.

The coursework for my AI module was making an agent that could traverse the London Tube network producing human level heuristic results. I'm still not entirely sure what the judging criterion would be for a competition, but I'd be quite happy to dump the out of date and occasionally inaccurate data he gave us (hard coded in Java of course) into a made up file format if anyone likes the idea of that.

Something just following simple commands is merely a bot, where as the ability to learn is something different altogether! [editline]5th June 2012[/editline] Also, according to wikipedia (or according to sources on wikipedia), there's (at least) the following two types of AI: Artificial Intelligence (what ROBO_DONUT described), and Video game artificial intelligence ('bots') https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence_%28video_games%29
Comparing the number of votes and the number of users having commented in this thread, I think the problem is that people have voted who are not really going to contribute themselves, but would rather like to see what others can do.
So... The final vote. Agree - AI Challenge Optimistic - Disk/Space Visualiser
So... The final vote. Agree - AI Challenge Optimistic - Disk/Space Visualiser
Why Disk visualizer? Simulation software got more votes. Simulation Software (Space ships, Solar systems ,etc) 24 18.75% A disk file-space visualizer thingy (http://grab.by/dP6S) 18 14.06%
If a vote has already ended then surely it would be wiser to select the option with the highest votes?
Just do AI, it got the popular vote.
