Well I got as far as the answer input screen, since I only got that far, and I allready got one thanks to finding the flaw in first attempt, unfair I think.
Not like anyone else will ever find it anyway! I had a fun time coding it, t'is a shame Facepunch wasn't as much interested though.
What blocks a app from detouring GetRegistryKey(or w/e it is) and making it return that the key doesn't exist?
Anything that runs in the context of your user has your permissions. The only way around it would be to elevate it to SYSTEM, which you don't have permission to do either.
Anything that runs in the context of your user has your permissions. What prevents me form detouring it so that it thinks that there is no registry key blocking it?
taskmgr runs in the context of my user?
Yes
What prevents me form detouring it so that it thinks that there is no registry key blocking it?
It checks the permissions through the Windows API so you'd have to intercept that, which you can't do without compromising the system to start with.

ugh jesus fuck that logotype is a disaster.
Yes It checks the permissions through the Windows API so you'd have to intercept that, which you can't do without compromising the system to start with.
You can detour the windows api, without compromising the system.
What blocks a app from detouring GetRegistryKey(or w/e it is) and making it return that the key doesn't exist?
:doh: You. Don't. Have. Permission.
You can detour the windows api, without compromising the system.
I'm not arguing anymore because it's clearly pointless trying to explain it to you.
I'm not arguing anymore because it's clearly pointless trying to explain it to you.
What permission prevents me from allocating memory in a process running on my account, wiriting to that memory, and then creating a thread in that process?
We were allowed to run exes but they blocked task manager entirely. I doubt the majority of schools allow access to the process menu.
Get a copy of taskmgr.exe, open up in hex editor, replace first character of "Policies" with another letter for all occurrences (there may be some unicode, too), save, run. You could always use Process Explorer, it doesn't use that registry key and is simply way better. Both worked at my school, but they wont let you kill any process (only some).
Breaking the law is definitely the way to deal with a TOS you don't agree with...
Meh, one time I was working on a game in my spare time on the school computers, and I was storing it on my user account there. One day, I was surprised to come in and see all the files missing, with a corrupted text file titled "Acceptable Use Policy.txt" Needless to say I was pretty pissed, since my school has a programming class ("Hey kids, copy VB out of this book!") and I had spent several weeks on that project.

Screensaver veered a little off course Red character is movable and jumpable, tunnel is player created (and traversable!), platforms are player created (and standable on!), and that large terrain spike is player created (can be manipulated up and down) Oh and terrain and nicked shrooms/trees are generated procedurally. I could extend the map infinitely :v: current bugs include: if you jump in a tunnel or touch a wall, it teleports you to the surface you must jump before entering a tunnel otherwise it doesnt work. The effect of jumping on tunnel traversableness is only temporary as well :v:
All good games start off as screensavers.
My first game for school. I put quite lot of effort into it.
Looks good but it really needs colour.
I see only black and white... Just kidding, those are "dev" images and I adore anything dev just like those dev maps in CSS ;).
Dat programmer art [img_thumb]http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/4978/22531237.png[/img_thumb] Initial thoughts? i changes: player, zombie, player fac (top left), cursor aim thing and sun It will probably be more comic'ie style, as i cant take a gme with those graphics seriously
@HeatPipe: It's not "mouses", it's "mice".
@HeatPipe: It's not "mouses", it's "mice".
Oh well, stupid me, thanks!
Looks like a fucked up version of Mahjong.
The similarities end at the "there are squares" level to be blunt.
Fixed a pretty big issue with my allocator. Too bad it's slower than the default STL allocator. Oh well. At least I know how to write a custom allocator for the STL :smith:. (Too bad they never seem to perform better than the actual STL allocator. Even if I just return the same chunk of memory over and over, and the STL allocator allocates and frees each time)
Just finished recreating all the diffrent player weapons and such. Now all thats left is the map sprites, not sure what im going to do with the weapons hud thing. Also gone for a wind walker kinda thing with the flames
Side project: A http downloader with winsock.
implementing this next, should make our interpolation code a bit faster: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_inverse_square_root :v:
Can people stop making zombie games? They're getting really old when all of them are the same and unintuitive.
And who are you exactly?
