You don't need a TV license to watch iPlayer so I'm not sure how exactly they get their money from it. But if they have blocked it in other countries it's sure to be illegal to make it so that it's unblocked.
You DO need a TV liscence for some of iPlayer's services , ie watching it live through iPlayer does need one.
Don't you guys have Hulu or whatever it is to watch TV online? Why do you want iPlayer too?
Hulu doesn't have BBC produced shows (like horizon) does it?

You only need a TV license for live TV, all of the repeat stuff on iPlayer doesn't need one. I didn't even know they did live streams on iPlayer.

Pretty much finished now.
It just needs to ffmpeg the FLV file into an MP4 after the download is finished, and also pipe the output of RTMP dump in to the GUI and hide the command prompt, then it's done.
Eventually I might set it up as a service and add series link and shit like that and also maybe a web interface so you can remote manage it.

excuse me
It's not much compared to the other things in this thread but I'm working on a space invaders clone to learn how to use LWJGL & Slick.

So far there's only one invader and only one weapon, but I'm going to add more. It's basically an infinite version of space invaders, the aim is to survive as many rows as possible with the highest score.
Your eventual score will probably be some kind of score*rows formula.
Points for each invader is based on difficulty (level 1 (hard), 2 (medium) or 3 (easy)) and what type they are.
It's all very simple but I'm proud of where I am right now.
BOOF!
I like that

Submit this to BBC, they might even acquire it and pay you for it
Made a program that removes the border from any window. Useful for games that support window mode, but not a "noborder" mode. (aka maximised window mode)
Although probably badly coded. :v:

iPlayer has a download option on the site... why would you pay for that?

Trying to make a ListView in Android where you can reorder the items by dragging and dropping them. Why on earth is this not built in to the SDK?

Thats the binaries (and the two dlls no-one has) for the game ive been working on
Not a lot has changed since my last post, though on the inside its all been completely rewritten. Mostly :v: Fixed lots of bugs, made it easier to screw around with the code and add things in
Bugs:
You must press w as the first thing you do. Otherwise nothing will work. Just do it, ill fix it later :v:
Theres also a bug that can cause you to rapidly fall through the terrain under certain circumstances, but its not that much of a problem.
Controls:
wad to jump and move
Press 1 then left click to create tunnels. And platforms. Completely traversable :D Though if you jump in a tunnel, itll get you stuck in the ceiling (sort of). Update: If you right click, itll create a square of terrain which you can use as a platform as well, and to fill in tunnels
Press 2 then left click to raise the terrain at the surface, right click to lower it.
Press esc to quit
Ill put some screenshots up in a min

Just updated it, fixed a bit of collision and added in green squares.

wait a minute, why do you need to split flvs anyway? it appears that iplayer serves stuff in mp4 too.
also, can you show me how you're building your rtmpdump args?

Mainly for tidiness, there are sometimes packets dropped.
Submit this to BBC, they might even acquire it and pay you for it
The BBC don't like you downloading iPlayer shows. Not because they're a massive evil company that hate the idea of people enjoying entertainment or something - just because they haven't produced all of these shows and they don't have the rights to distribute them in certain ways. For instance they don't show Family Guy on the iPlayer because they don't have the rights to distribute it in that particular way. Anyway this means that the ones you can download expire after 30 days, which I think is fair enough because otherwise they might lose out on a lot of DVD sales.
My personal little don't-rip-off-the-beeb,-we-actually-pay-for-that message to people who bypass the location restrictions, if you're interested:
The reason for the location restrictions is because people in the UK pay a licence fee to own a television (I know it sounds absurd, it's basically just tax you don't pay if you don't own a TV, which I think is a good thing) thats pays for the BBC TV channels, the BBC radio stations, the BBC website including all of the news etc, and all the money it costs to host these programs, sometimes in high def, on the internet - all that money has to come from somewhere and it's the reason why the BBC can provide a lot of quality content - since they don't have to pander to viewing figures since they get paid anyway, they can provide all types of shows for everyone. For example I saw a documentary on BBC 4 (the sort of arts and culture channel) about accents, just a whole hour long, uninterrupted show about accents. And then on BBC 2 I can watch Frankie Boyle call Bill Oddie a cunt.
Anyway the point is, if you want to watch BBC content outside of the UK and you don't want to wait for the DVD and buy that, then if you're going to pirate it, don't pirate it from the horses mouth when you can get it from other sources - if you're costing the BBC money in bandwidth, you have to realise that we're paying for that in a small percentage, I mean, just normal people - not big advertising big wigs who probably have money to throw around and bathe in melted down pound coins.

I'm starting my second semester of Comp Sci at uni on Monday so I'll be delving back into some Java. To get myself back in the mood I've dug up my harvard reference generator from a few threads ago I'm going to make a GUI for it if I can get my tiny head round it, pictures soon.
DEBUG: SendPlay, seekTime=0, stopTime=0, sending play: mp4:iplayerstream/secure_auth/1500kbps/MP/b00qbs9f_1295611405.mp4

DEBUG: Property: <Name: level, STRING: error>
DEBUG: Property: <Name: code, STRING: NetStream.Failed>

this is as far as i'm getting with rtmpdump.
the auth i'm using is probably invalidated.

What I put in the other WAYWO is here: http://tommytinkles.com/?p=21 - it's not terrific, bare in mind there's loads of these all over the web, that you don't have to download. I'm sure you can find them if you search them, but I made this for a little exercise and so I wouldn't forget the rules for harvard referencing. Anyway it doesn't do anything magic, you still have to get all the same annoying details that you'd have to get anyway (author, publication year, title, edition, publisher, location of publisher) from the book, it just formats it in the correct way, which is a pain to do I feel, and means that I didn't fuck anything up. Also if you're doing Comp Sci next year you may not have to write many essays so hopefully you won't learn the horrors of a reference list straight away, but if you do make sure you know what convention you're using (there's harvard style, APA style and probably loads others) because this only does harvard style.

My abysmal tiles are quite saddening. Although you can't see it in this screenshot, I animated the character and I think it looks pretty good. I think the next step is to rework the interface for the player and create equippable items.
