No wonder none of my oscillator circuits have worked, after some testing I found my breadboard power rails had a fairly high resistance up to 100k in one case due to old oxidized jumpers. Some fresh jumpers and a little wash in IPA and everything is back down to 0.1 ohm or less, so don't forget to check your breadboards regularly guys.
Is it very bad I never use a breadboard? I prefer just using an eurocard of bare pcb and make little islands, comes in handy especially with RF thingies. By the way, I thought of something cool, I read about a box that circulates within a group of electronics hobbyists, with old components in them, and the system works like this: One person puts something in the box, sends it to whoever wants it, that person takes something he likes out, and puts something back in it, and thus circulating parts. Would this work?
It costs more to send the box than buying a pack of resistors, transistors and caps combined. Maybe inductors too.

Nowadays components are so cheap and abundant having some sort of component pool would be utterly pointless, costly and slow when the person in need could just hit up bitsbox/ebay/farnell/mouser/digikey/DX and get what they need cheap and/or fast delivered directly to them. I do think that in the 70's-80's or something this would have been something electricians did, setting up a sort of supply network between eachother. That was before the internet though and components where expensive and hard to come by.
There's quite a few of them going around in germany
[t]http://i.imgur.com/X0SP3.png[/t] I like making graphs.
I got offered an HP 8770 Aribtrary Waveform Generator. It has no controls on it and it's all software controlled over HP-IB. It seems useful to have a signal generator that can make any waveform I want but is this over that limit on just how useful something can be?
How much does it cost?
Well I've got my Philips PM3200 to work after all .
Made a little signal generator for testing amplifier biasing, basically just a 555 with adjustable frequency, the construction may look ugly but it gives excellent results, the rise time is spot on 100ns compared with the several micro-seconds on a breadboard.
Number of wraps going on that?
roughly 2000 for the secondary im hoping for, 3-5 for primaries
I think this thread should be moved to the maker mates subforum. I know it says electronics AND embedded programming but honestly it's more of a general electronics thread and anyone looking for such a thread probably wouldn't think to look in the programming section. The thread would probably get more visitors and the section would get more visitors and perhaps even grow past 2 posts/week or whatever it's currently at. Anyone agree?
I agree we hardly ever talk about programming in here, most of the frequent posters are analog guys. If people agree I'll ask a mod to close the thread at the end of this month.
If there are people who want to discuss embedded programming I don't see why that can't be discussed in the new thread considering it is closely related, or for that matter I don't see why a standalone embedded programming thread could be made while the electronics talk moves to a better venue.
We have a Maker Mates subforum? Edit: DURRRRRRR
We have a Maker Mates subforum?
How did you not notice that?
How did you not notice that?
Oh, that. Durr me. :downs:
[thumb]http://i46.tinypic.com/11tvcqp.png[/thumb] A friend of mine (diwako) made this for a project of mine. Kudos to you if you can guess what it's about
Can anyone recommend a circuit that oscillates at 145 mhz? An RLC circuit would require incredibly low capacitator and inductor values.
Wrong thread?
Nah, it's an electronics project alright. It's a high altitude balloon.
What's all this commotion about thread moving/closing. Why we don't discuss all forms of electronics here? I mean the thread title is: "Electronics AND Embedded Programming
well, this thread fits in both subforums.
Why not just make a thread in Maker Mates to redirect people interested in electronics here?
That would lead to people no doubt posting in the other thread.
That would lead to people no doubt posting in the other thread.
Not if it were a sticky + locked thread.
Moving the thread would make it easier for people looking for an electronics thread to find it (I mean, who thinks to look in the programming section for an electronics thread?) so it would lead to new people, it would also lead to more activity in that subforum. It's a good move both for the thread and the maker mates subforum.
