Hey you know what's fun constantly burning yourself with a soldering iron shaft out of clumsiness.

I did that once, and only once.
I was trying to pry free the leads of a resistor with my iron once (they were bent over and soldered, so it didn't want to pop straight out). My iron's tip is freshly-sharpened-pencil sharp, and I was putting a good amount of force on it. So I ended up stabbing my thumb full-force with a 300C iron, and had a big black lump of dead tissue under my skin for like a month.
And now I don't pry things with an iron.

Is it bad if I'm hallucinating that my soldering iron smells like a Reuben? :v:
Just don't try to take a bite out of it and you'll be fine.
Hey you know what's fun constantly burning yourself with a soldering iron shaft out of clumsiness.
I only managed to stop doing that after grabbing the wrong end of the iron once. I didn't get it too badly, fortunately, I just had to write left-handed for a while.
Only time I've burned myself like that was my soldering iron and stand fell off my desk whilst the iron was hot.
Grabbed the iron by the cord ironically enough but I grabbed the metal spiral part of the stand. :gonk:
The worst thing that ever happened to me was that exploding battery that hit my eye, and I cried afterwards.

My left hand is full of small scars from all the times I've had that happen to me.
I remember talking with ddrl46 once on skype and then his boost converter exploded and it filled his room with smoke. :v:
I have more tiny scars and knicks on my left hand than I care to count form various mishaps with screw drivers, pliers and most of all, knives.
I once stepped on an upside down IC. Barefoot.
I can truly say that my blood went into that project.

Oh yeah, well this time I got a burn with the same hand I was holding the iron with, top that!

It's almost as bad as trying to sew by hand.
Does it bother anyone else that today's Google doodle (in honor of Hertz), is elliptical rather than sinusoidal?
Undesired harmonics.
I thought it looked a bit odd.

This might take some time to reassemble (broken lens detection lever on Canon EOS 1N)
Yes, I hate it when sines are drawn with vertical flanks. They're not supposed to be vertical.
Note to self: Never take apart a DSLR

This is an analog SLR, digital ones probably aren't as bad.
I would hope so, that thing looks like a nightmare.
Edit: For content sake, here is a crappy cell phone pic I sent to my buddy to show my new iron that arrived yesterday.

I saw that coming. His video on hacking the rigol did influence me on buying it I must admit.
The right word is budget.
The first thing I'll do when I get $350 of spare money (read: never) is to buy a Rigol scope. It just looks so sexy.
So I have this Telequipment serviscope minor, it's crappy brittish oscilloscope from the 60's dad got from a school he worked at. It had a blown fuse so fixing it took minutes. It's rather pointless for actual usage as it was designed for school use and to be used with preconfigured experiments, which means the dials have no markings so there's no way to know what the hell you're looking at.
However as an antique it's quite awesome, it has a total of 6 vaccum tubes inside:
brimar ef134 x2
brimar ez80
mazda 6bw7
mullard eb91
mullard ecc81 12at7
And also it has a wonderful PCB with those ye olde swirvy traces as oposed to the angular ones of today.
It's quite beautiful but all it's doing is collecting dust and I feel I'm not the right person to appreciate something like this. Does anyone know what I could get if I sold it?
you could get some known frequencies and find out the time/divs.
Just took apart my old crappy Lexmark inkjet printer
Loot:
30V 500mA supply (switchmode)
Two AC motors of unknown rating, probably 15-30V
One stepper motor
Two very nice large inductors on ferrite core
A bunch of caps, diodes, transistors, etc
Hey all, at university we have been given a group design project which involves an Arduino. We have also been given a small kit of components but i am having trouble identifying what this is:

If anyone could help that would be great.
Thanks.
Did you think of putting the part number in google ?
1st result http://www.zymcu.com/datasheet/device/4n35.pdf
*sigh*
I did but I couldn't find anything about it. Apparently I am blind though. Thanks.
I ordered wire and got a bag of candy.
Well, the slow shipping shall be forgiven.
