I don't think I was being an asshole when I helped you with all the Newgrounds Audio app stuff
It was a joke, I wasn't referring to you specifically. [editline]26th February 2011[/editline] Actually, though, Daimao asked me on Steam why everyone in the Programming forum was an asshole.
I know, it just annoys me that the world view of us is as a set of dicks.
I think they kind of have the right idea :v:
Apparently the rest of the forum thinks all the people in the Programming section are assholes :frown:
They just fear our superiority :smug: Seriously though, I wonder why that is. I mean sure, sometimes some arguments stretch a little, but it's not really much and usually they don't get personal, do they?
I know, it just annoys me that the world view of us is as a set of dicks.
Hey, hey, don't insult geel9. Edit: Proof.
They just fear our superiority :smug: Seriously though, I wonder why that is. I mean sure, sometimes some arguments stretch a little, but it's not really much and usually they don't get personal, do they?
No wait wait, maybe they think null = us
I know, it just annoys me that the world view of us is as a set of dicks.
I dunno. It's just not something that people understand: the arguments here tend not to be personal attacks, and if we're dismissive of newbies, it's not because they're bad at coding, but because they're not showing any initiative. For all its myriad problems, I've always rather liked this section.
I know, it just annoys me that the world view of us is as a set of dicks.
The world thinks this of hackers. It's a wrong assumption, but we have to live with it. Not saying we're all hackers though. But I imagine we have all hacked something in some way.
On the null topic though, I honestly liked him. He was a great programmer (if-else-if-else-if herp) and to my knowledge only insulted people when they started arguments. Also he made portalized. And he made it when he was 14. [editline]26th February 2011[/editline]
But I imagine we have all hacked something in some way.
Does hacking together code count
Let me elaborate; through discussion I've learned that they feel we are quite insular and that we just flame new people and act superior and pompous and refuse to help
Let me elaborate; through discussion I've learned that they feel we are quite insular and that we just flame new people and act superior and pompous and refuse to help
Let's fuck 'em up
Let me elaborate; through discussion I've learned that they feel we are quite insular and that we just flame new people and act superior and pompous and refuse to help
Who are you talking about. "They"? What two people?
You know what, screw making my own physics engine. I shouldn't have to reinvent the wheel for this.
Who are you talking about. "They"? What two people?
Various FP people on steam, and also a big discussion that happened in GMF earlier.
Apparently the rest of the forum thinks all the people in the Programming section are assholes :frown:
? [editline]26th February 2011[/editline] nevermind
well I kinda jumped ship from the Mapping forum to the Programming forum after a while of being on FP, I didn't feel flamed at all... then again I didn't come here and request praise for WebBrowser control inside winforms or anything stupid like that. If anyone's saying that it's probably the people who want to be programmers but are too lazy to sit down and spend longer than an hour on a project. And we do help, WDYNHW exists for a reason. We just don't hand out solutions, we lead people in the right direction because we want to spend our time on our own projects, and because it's better to teach someone how to learn than to teach them how to fix X problem. If someone wants handouts ("my code's broken and I don't know what the error is, fix it -code dump-") they can find another forum.
I think they're jealous that in reality, we're the most civilized section. :smug: Sure we make fun of geel, and efex, and esa, and quite a few more people... but that's all in good fun.
And he made it when he was 14.
furthering the correlation that the children in this forum are stupid.
I think they're jealous that in reality, we're the most civilized section. :smug: Sure we make fun of geel, and efex, and esa, and quite a few more people... but that's all in good fun.
And null and deloc and soda. Yeah, I think I'm starting to see where they're getting this idea from. :v:
Various FP people on steam, and also a big discussion that happened in GMF earlier.
You are way too involved with the GMF. Furthermore, it's not kosher to talk about, or care about GMF stuff when you aren't in the GMF (well caring at all isn't kosher in any circumstance).
furthering the correlation that the children in this forum are stupid.
I don't understand this post at all. Someone making something half-decent at 14 makes them stupid? :psyduck:
Quick question about box2D, at one point on a sprite would you draw a shape? I'm assuming the center, but they have a lot of stuff about center of mass so...
gah what am i doing posting this in waywo
Quick question about box2D, at one point on a sprite would you draw a shape? I'm assuming the center, but they have a lot of stuff about center of mass so...
"The center of a body is the center of mass, so it will depend on what fixtures are attached to it and their densities." One second of google search.
People generally view programmers as assholes as we expect them to learn things rather than just making everything a user friendly romp in the grass by sacrificing features, functionality and stability.
I dunno. Whenever I'm annoyed by idiots in other sections I read a few threads in here and am happy about how mature and awesome (nearly) everyone here is.
I don't understand this post at all. Someone making something half-decent at 14 makes them stupid? :psyduck:
>portalized >half-decent > also i was referring more to his long-lasting awful behaviour.
>portalized >half-decent >[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/WLrcM.gif[/img_thumb]
Yeah I don't get this either. It was a buggy piece of shit and most of the work was done by Ogre and whatever physics engine he was using...
Yeah I don't get this either.
