Like Killswitch?
I suggest we make the creepypasta game real.
That would be interesting :v:
Variable speed of light.
Don't even know if I'm participating in the next competition. I seriously can't decide what game engine to use. SFML.NET is too unstable, XNA is too bloated, and OpenTK is too hard. And C++ is also too hard.
Wait... LÖVE perhaps...
......?
......?
I mean, before I can start developing in it, I need to download this huge library, and everyone who wants to play it also needs to download some kind of XNA redistributable.
I intend to enter this contest.

Should I write the game in Fructose, Kari or Assembly?
Theme: "controversial"

Uh, duh? Kari.
Games using only procedurally generated content.
I really like this idea. What about entering as a team? Even if we limit it to 2 people.
I already have an idea for the procedurally generated content thing. Please let it be that :D
I've already been working on a small system in Python for procedurally generation of levels for a game I might make sometime. Would LOVE to see that as a theme! Even though I'm not going to participate this time.
Would a music game be considered procedurally generated?
Would a music game be considered procedurally generated?
Too vague to answer.
Audiosurf is.
Guitar hero isn't.

Only if the music itself is procedurally generated.

I don't think it's too ridiculous to assume that I meant procedurally generated based on the music.
Why not have a music based game, as in the music has to play a part in the actual gameplay
Why not have a music based game, as in the music has to play a part in the actual gameplay
More and more games has this, and it's an awesome thing.
What I'd like to see (with this specific thing) is a platformer-sidescrolling-Metal Slug kind of game, with procedurally generated shit!
I really like this idea. What about entering as a team? Even if we limit it to 2 people.
Does that mean I need to randomly generate all my textures? :P
I vote for the procedurally generated idea. :buddy:
I don't like the idea of everything being procedurally generated, I mean I don't want to write code to generate my font characters.
I don't like the idea of everything being procedurally generated, I mean I don't want to write code to generate my font characters.
Let's say that only graphics, sounds, music and levels have to be generated procedurally.
Let's say that only graphics, sounds, music and levels have to be generated procedurally.
How about the theme just be "procedurally generated" and leave it to people if they want to generate sounds, music, graphics and/or levels?

I, uh, thought this was what you guys meant?
Having everything procedurally generated is silly.

didn't read lol

Ok then I could enter the competition with my 2d rpg, I would love to rewrite it from the start.
I'd be okay with the procedural content idea if there were also some gameplay restrictions. Like I said before, I really believe that's more in line with the spirit of these kinds of contests. I get the feeling that people are just picking things that they would like to see in a game.

I do think it forces you to be a little creative about gameplay. A programmer could still generate a big open-world RPG with bitmap sprites, but that would really be fighting the theme. I think procedural would be more conducive to abstract games.
I probably won't be participating (as I have another project planned), so those who are planning to participate should have a greater say in the rules than myself.
Procedural game with extra points the more procedural content it has.
What about sidecrolling remakes?
Procedural game with extra points the more procedural content it has.
Maybe a multiplicative scoring system, rather than an additive.
Additive scoring presents problems, as a programmer could make a game with very little procedural content and still get a decent score from other criteria.
Use something like "(Gameplay + Artwork + Story) * (Percentage Procedural)" instead of "Gameplay + Artwork + Story + Procedural".
How about a 4 player co-op game of some sort?
