People are way too quick to call others arrogant these days.
I said the sentence came off arrogant, he was the first one to call himself arrogant ...
I wonder if it would be possible to make a two-stage contest work. The first stage is like Ludum Dare where you have to get a prototype working as soon as possible. And then another stage where you polish and all that. Not sure how judging/scoring would work though.

Potato, potato.

On second thought, that expression makes more sense when spoken.

:v: I read that as Poe-tay-toe Poe-tay-toe before I realized
I like the weird fiction idea. Procedurally generated content seems a bit too limiting.
Lol, procedurally generated content being limited, i laughed.
simply put 64k is restrictive while procedurally generated content is not.
There is no reason why the people making the procedurally generated content can't make sure it's within the bounds of 64k. So you can still get your "practice in c"
Oh stop with the "Ooooh, it's not the way I program. So restrictive!"
I've never EVER used C but I'm willing to give it a shot.
I personally like the 96kb Idea, Would it be a utility or a game though?
Where did the 96 part come from?
simply put 64k is restrictive
Constraint breeds creativity.
You can do anything you like given no limitations. There's no challenge.
64k forces people to really think about trying to squeeze as much as they can in given the limitations. That's much more fun than just linking to 20 different libraries and gluing together something amazing in 100 lines of code.
I think the Procedurally generate idea is the best one.
My exams are around the end of the month.
What are the exam times for others?

Mine is in two weeks.
I think 3 weeks here

Someone said 64/96Kb so I presumed that was a better idea.
I'm up for a 64kb compo, got opengl running and i'm at 4kb :buddy:
We could always have just a demoscene thread, couldn't we?

I thought about it too, a 64 kb demoscene would eb awesome! So I've changed my mind from the Procedurally generate idea to demoscene :)

So anyway, we all happy with procedurally generated something?
Now, I want everybody reading this to PM me one theme, eg. "Horror" "Robots" "Weird Fiction" and I'll stick all of them into a random number generator, note, the more enteries one topic gets the higher the chance of it winning.
So my theme is going to be "Weird Fiction"
After reading a little on this it sounds awesome.
If there is a majority of duplicates of the same theme ( > 50% ) We'll just go with that.
Where did the 96 part come from?
some demoparties hold a 96kb game compo.
-oops, nothing to see here-
A technical restriction and a story type is excessive.
If you allow any type of game, such as arcade and art games, you can do procedural easily. If you need to have a weird fiction story, however, the format needs to be role-playing or adventure. The two criteria are almost mutually exclusive.
In my opinion, the story theme limits creativity much more than the technical requirement.
You're either going to end up with a bunch of normal RPGs with really shitty synth'd textures, or an abstract space shooter with Cthulhu tacked on.
Maybe an and/or thing? It would allow more variety in entries.

Let's just go for "Procedural" and leave it at that.
New theme: "most fun to play game"
It doesn't matter how complicated the insides are if nobody enjoys playing.
Procedural generation. Yes.
Woah, I didn't notice pages 2,3 and 4.
[editline]5th May 2011[/editline]
why not?
procedural generation is entirely subjective, which is why i suggested a sizecoding competition in the first place.
All right, we'll just leave it at procedural. Now we've just got to get some dates. Like I said, anything after June is perfectly fine.
I think more people wanted 64k than procedural.
Pretty sure you just came in with "So everyone wants procedural? Fine" without anything to go by.
It's very likely I'm wrong so let's just have a vote.
Agree for procedural, disagree for 64K.
I think that you missed Dlaor's post a few messages up.
I may actually enter this one, depending on timing and such. We'll see.
I'll probably lose all motivation for programming when the semester finishes like usual though.
