Go bored so I remade my EgoWatch thingey. It uses the ticker API to show you when you get rated and when you get mentioned. Incredibly messy code but I don't care about that for stuff like this. https://gist.github.com/4433111

I think I accidentally made poem (It's related to this thread) while visiting the Minecraft thread: "A good coder isn't the one knowing all of those programming languages, but the one that can solve a problem regardless of the language."

Writing a small personal networking library, which is an improved and rewritten version of a server I wrote for a multiplayer game I am working on. I find it to be a very good challenge.

I'm convinced the world actually runs on Delphi. That is behind every system. If a device runs on some kind of electricity, it's probably plugged to a Windows Server 2003 via COM, running a permanently full-screen Delphi application. The about-page probably includes a name, a landline number and a hotmail address. They're probably not even programmed by real people. It's some Delphi gnome or something that churns out horribly designed programs, littered with annoying little bugs but surprisingly stable and good enough to do the job. No-one even begins to wonder where they got the program, as far as they're concerned it was always there.
It's neither it's too saturated, it will also look a lot better when you have other objectes breaking it up cause at the moment 90% of the screen just looks like visual noise
I'll agree about the saturation and objects. I might implement GLSL to do some quick color correction. Making the game world come to life is probably the most difficult part of making my game, but yeah, when I have objects, buildings, and more tiles in the world, it'll look more complete.
FUSE? Or does Mac OS X do something different?
fuse4x yeah. MacFuse was abandoned and forked a while ago.
dont color correct, just edit the source
What's wrong with color correction?
you introduce a color offset that you must constantly account for you never want to do this, because you create a color environment that's unnecessarily difficult to work with for example, you've color corrected your environment and now it looks "right," but the source is still wrongly colored, and further down the line you plan to introduce night and day cycles that's cool and all, but now you have to color correct two passes, one to get your color balance properly set, and now another one to introduce lighting changes for night and day [editline]2nd January 2013[/editline] that all is to say, "color correction" isn't for "correcting color" in video games, it's for introducing corrected tones for specific situations, not general rendering
I could edit the source, but the current map is (as bare as it is) is comprised of over 10 textures and as game development progresses, I'm bound to be working with close to or over 100 textures. If all of a sudden I decide the color for all my graphics is off, editing the source directly for 100+ graphics in photoshop would make me kill myself. but thinking about this made me realize I could write a quick and easy program that automates all of this but that means I would have to be not lazy.
also "over 10 textures"
my point is that I could change it now, realize I don't like it in a month, and be unable to change all of the textures back because the quantity of textures has quadrupled.
It's always fun to transfer your code somewhere else and find out it doesn't work, throwing exceptions and whatever. Spend about 30 minutes wondering why the fuck it isn't working, etc. Turns out it was just a failed texture loading because I never recreated my placeholders. So now I have a backup "ERROR" texture.
